Son De Cali Introduce
In the vibrant, diverse pocket of Ridgewood where Queens meets Brooklyn, Son De Cali has quietly established itself as a true "hidden gem" for aficionados of Latin American cuisine. This authentic Colombian bakery and restaurant serves as a culinary bridge to the city of Cali, often referred to as the salsa capital of the world. For New Yorkers, particularly the local community in Ridgewood and Bushwick, Son De Cali offers more than just a quick bite; it provides a sensory journey through the rich, buttery, and comforting flavors of traditional Colombian baking. From the moment you step off the bustling Wyckoff Avenue, the warm aroma of fresh cheese breads and expertly roasted coffee creates an inviting sanctuary for commuters and residents alike.
The essence of Son De Cali lies in its dedication to tradition. In a city where "fusion" is common, this establishment takes pride in staying true to the heritage of Colombian panaderías. Local patrons often describe their experience as a pleasant surprise, stumbling upon the shop almost by accident only to find some of the most consistent and high-quality Colombian fare in the borough. The atmosphere is professional yet undeniably friendly, characterized by a staff that is frequently praised for their kindness and helpfulness. For many local families, it has become a weekly ritual to visit for a hearty breakfast or to pick up a warm bag of pastries that remind them of home-cooked meals in South America.
Operating in a competitive neighborhood like Ridgewood requires a commitment to both quality and value. Son De Cali balances these effortlessly, providing generous portions and authentic flavors at a fair price point. Whether you are a connoisseur of Colombian street food or a newcomer curious about the difference between a pandebono and an almojábana, the service at the counter is patient and informative. This local business has successfully captured the spirit of Colombian hospitality, making it a cornerstone of the Wyckoff Avenue commercial corridor and a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the diverse food landscape of Queens.
Location and Accessibility
Son De Cali is located at 8-77 Wyckoff Ave, Ridgewood, NY 11385, USA. Its position on Wyckoff Avenue is strategically ideal for both locals and those traveling from other parts of the city. The bakery is situated in a high-traffic area that serves as a border between the creative energy of Bushwick and the more residential, community-focused streets of Ridgewood. For commuters, the location is exceptionally convenient, being just a short walk from the Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs subway station, which serves both the L and M trains. This accessibility makes it a perfect first stop for Manhattan-bound commuters looking for a fresh breakfast or a comforting coffee before their journey.

The area is well-served by several local bus routes, further increasing its reach within the Queens community. What is worth choosing
When visiting Son De Cali, the absolute standout choice is the "Almojábana." These cheese breads are a hallmark of Colombian baking, and at this Ridgewood location, they are executed with a precision that makes them a "hidden gem" in the neighborhood. They are soft, slightly spongy, and boast a rich cheese flavor that is best enjoyed while still warm. Pairing these with a "Café con Leche" or a cup of hot chocolate is the traditional way to enjoy them, creating a perfect balance of savory and sweet that is synonymous with Colombian comfort food.
For those looking for a more substantial meal, the breakfast menu is highly recommended. Specifically, the eggs with arepa (Huevos con Arepa) provide a satisfying and authentic start to the day. The arepas are expertly prepared—crispy on the outside while remaining tender on the inside—and are often served with a generous portion of cheese. Another fan favorite is the "Breakfast Croissant con queso y huevo." This fusion of a French-style pastry with Colombian egg preparation has been described by customers as "perfect," offering a buttery, flaky experience that is both indulgent and filling.
Finally, to round out your visit, it is well worth choosing one of their natural fruit shakes. In the heat of a New York summer or simply as a refreshing accompaniment to a savory meal, flavors like Mora (blackberry) or Guanabana (soursop) offer a taste of the tropics that is hard to find elsewhere in the city. The staff's dedication to freshness extends to these beverages, ensuring that each shake is flavorful and made to order. Whether you are stopping in for a single pastry or a full Colombian platter, choosing these local favorites ensures you are getting the most authentic and delicious experience Son De Cali has to offer.

Went to this place almost by accident and I found a hidden gem. The bakery has some pretty good almojábanas, and the breakfast is delicious. I tried the eggs with arepa and it was really good. I’ll be back many times. My wife was very happily with the food and the drinks. The people at the counter were kind and gave us good service.

Excellent service. The ladies in the front are incredibly friendly and attentive. Of course, the food is fantastic. Every weekend, I go to get bread, empanadas, and, of course, coffee.

Muchachas bién amables. Buena atenciones a la clientela. Me encanta los pan de bono, los buñuelos, y arepa de chóclo. Los recomiendo! Cashier ladies are friendly. Great attention to customers. Love the Bono bread, probably made of yuca (cassava) and cheese. It has a nice savory taste. Love the Buñuelos, a big spherical seasoned bread, full of flavor and the sweet corn arepa (patty)! I highly recommend those i mentioned above. If youre not sure how they look like, take a look at the photo i posted above.
