Wafels & Dinges Introduce
In a city that moves as fast as New York, finding a spot that offers both a quick bite and a genuine culinary escape is a rare treasure. Wafels & Dinges has long been a staple of the New York City street food scene, evolving from a single yellow truck into a beloved institution known for bringing the authentic taste of Belgium to the five boroughs. Located at the bustling crossroads of Lower Manhattan, the Wafels & Dinges outpost at Peter Minuit Plaza serves as a beacon for commuters, tourists, and locals alike who are seeking a high-quality sweet or savory treat. This particular location captures the whimsical spirit of the brand while providing a reliable stop for anyone navigating the southern tip of the island.
The "Dinges" in the name—a Flemish slang term roughly translating to "whatchamacallits"—refers to the plethora of toppings available to customize your waffle. Whether you are a fan of the chewy, caramelized Liege waffle or the light and crispy Brussels style, this establishment prioritizes traditional techniques and premium ingredients. For New Yorkers, Wafels & Dinges represents more than just a bakery; it is a reliable pick-me-up during a long workday and a celebratory destination for those enjoying a sunny afternoon near the harbor. The atmosphere is friendly and professional, maintaining a high standard of service even during the city's most hectic peak hours.
Location and Accessibility
Finding Wafels & Dinges in the concrete jungle is made easy by its strategic placement at 10 Peter Minuit Plz, New York, NY 10004. This location is situated in the heart of South Ferry, directly adjacent to one of the busiest transit hubs in the city. Its proximity to the Whitehall St-South Ferry subway station makes it incredibly accessible for those stepping off the 1, R, or W trains. Because it sits right next to major subway entrances and exits, it is an ideal "grab-and-go" spot for commuters heading to the office or travelers preparing to board the Staten Island Ferry.
For those exploring the historical sites of Lower Manhattan, the bakery is just a short stroll from Battery Park, the Charging Bull, and the 9/11 Memorial. The plaza setting offers a unique urban respite where customers can enjoy their waffles while taking in the sights of the harbor and the nearby Financial District. The shop utilizes modern ordering technology, including digital kiosks, to help streamline the process for people on the move, ensuring that even in the heart of New York, your wait time is kept to a minimum. The open-air feel of the plaza adds to the charm, especially during the warmer months when the area becomes a vibrant gathering spot for the local community.

Features / Highlights
What makes Wafels & Dinges a standout destination in a city full of bakeries is their dedication to specific Belgian traditions and their unique brand personality. Here are some of the highlights you can expect when visiting the Peter Minuit Plaza location:
- Authentic Liege Waffles: Made with pearl sugar that caramelizes within the dough, these waffles offer a distinct crunch and chew that sets them apart from standard American waffles.
- The Legendary Spekuloos: Their signature gingerbread-spiced spread is a cult favorite among New Yorkers and is often cited as the must-have topping for any first-time visitor.
- Artisanal Ice Cream: They offer high-quality scoops, such as Tahitian Vanilla with cinnamon or Cookies and Cream made with real gingerbread cookies, which serve as the perfect topping or standalone treat.
- Prime People-Watching: The outdoor seating and plaza location provide a front-row seat to the diverse flow of New York City life.
- Professional Management: The location is known for having a hands-on approach, often with friendly management and staff who are accommodating to customer needs.

What is worth choosing
If you are standing at the kiosk and feeling overwhelmed by the choices, there are a few iconic combinations that have defined the Wafels & Dinges experience for years. The "Throwdown" waffle is perhaps the most famous choice, featuring the legendary spekuloos spread topped with whipped cream and spekuloos cookie crumbles. This combination famously won a culinary challenge against celebrity chefs and remains a gold standard for Belgian treats in America.
For those seeking something refreshing on a classic New York summer day, the ice cream selections are highly recommended. The Cookies and Cream, specifically crafted with gingerbread cookies rather than standard chocolate wafers, offers a sophisticated and spicy twist on a childhood favorite. If you prefer a fruitier profile, the lemonade has been praised by many as a high-quality accompaniment that balances the richness of the waffles. While prices in Lower Manhattan reflect the premium location, the experience of enjoying a warm, pearl-sugar-laden waffle while looking out over the harbor is a quintessential New York moment that many locals find well worth the visit. Whether you are a fan of the simple dusting of powdered sugar or a mountain of "dinges," this spot at Peter Minuit Plaza delivers a consistent and joyful slice of Belgium in the heart of the city.

This is located right next to the subway exit/entrance and we were just hungry so we decided to try here. It’s a cute little place but it was okay overall. My waffle was $12 I think and it was so small….We used the kiosk to put order in and My bf wanted to order mimosas but it wasn’t on the kiosk machine menu….later this lady also wanted to order mimosa and she asked the staff but she was told to use the kiosk to order and of course Mimosa is not on the kiosk menu even though they advertised to have mimosa….. Lemonade was good but $12 for the small waffle is overpriced…I know it’s new work but probably I wouldn’t come back for waffles.

What a gem! Perfect respite for a hot August day. Tahitian vanilla with a dash of cinnamon, yummy. Cookies and cream made with gingerbread Cookies, sublime! Chatted with the very friendly owner, great fellow. And the counter staff where so accommodating.

The owner was nice enough to come and say hi to us while we were eating to ask how everything was. They got one item wrong and they made sure that they rotted it before we left. Definitely worth checking out when you come here. I had the strawberry shortcake plus four more for my family.

Great place but…. Notice the false prices. I was charged the higher price bc staff said they couldn’t “do anything “ at time of purchase. False advertising isn’t great, guys. Do better please.

Had to wait 10mims for 4x ladies to decide what they want to order from the single automated terminal. I ask if I could order directly at the counter, which I was told no. Then another lady ordered a drink at the counter. Eventually ordered at the counter as the automated terminal failed. They served cookies and cream when I asked for salted caramel. Not a good experience.
