Leo's Bagels Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Located in the heart of the Financial District, Leo's Bagels has become a cornerstone of the lower Manhattan breakfast and lunch scene. Founded by Adam Pomerantz—whose family legacy includes the renowned Murray’s Bagels—Leo's brings a touch of traditional artisan craft to the bustling streets of FiDi. The shop is named after Adam’s uncle, Leo, continuing a family tradition of naming high-quality bagel establishments after loved ones. Unlike the mass-produced alternatives found in many urban centers, the bagels here are hand-rolled, malt-sweetened, and kettle-boiled, ensuring the classic New York texture: a shiny, slightly crisp exterior with a dense, chewy interior.
Leo's Bagels is more than just a quick stop for a morning carb fix; it is a dedicated "pasticceria" of the bagel world, focusing on the finer details of smoked fish and gourmet spreads. The shop serves a diverse crowd ranging from Wall Street power players to curious tourists exploring the nearby historic sites of Stone Street and the New York Stock Exchange. The atmosphere is quintessential New York—efficient, slightly cramped during peak hours, and filled with the irresistible aroma of "everything" seasoning and freshly brewed coffee. Whether you are ordering a "Broker's Dozen" for the office or a single shmear for a walk in the neighboring park, Leo's provides a taste of old-school Manhattan authenticity in a modern, fast-paced environment.
Location and Accessibility
Leo's Bagels is prominently situated at 3 Hanover Square, New York, NY 10004, USA. This location is strategically placed at the intersection of Hanover Square and Stone Street, making it an ideal destination for those working in or visiting the southernmost tip of Manhattan. The shop is nestled within a historic area, surrounded by the iconic architecture of the Financial District and just a few blocks away from the waterfront. For local users and commuters, the accessibility is excellent, with multiple transit options nearby to facilitate a quick morning stop or a midday pickup.
For those using the New York City subway system, the shop is a short walk from several major stations. The 2 and 3 trains at Wall Street, the 4 and 5 trains at Bowling Green, and the J and Z trains at Broad Street all provide easy access to the Hanover Square area. Additionally, the R and W trains at Whitehall Street are within comfortable walking distance. While street parking in this part of Manhattan is virtually non-existent during business hours, the high density of public transportation and the pedestrian-friendly nature of the local plazas make it highly accessible. There is limited counter seating along the windows inside the shop, but many patrons take advantage of the beautiful public seating area in the park directly across the street from the entrance.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Leo's Bagels, the first-time visitor should undoubtedly lean toward the "Traditional" sandwich. This iconic NYC combination features hand-sliced Eastern Nova Scotia salmon, cream cheese, tomato, Bermuda onion, and capers on your choice of bagel. For those who want to experience the full range of the shop's smoked fish prowess, the "Orchard Street" (Nova and Sable) or "The Whole Shebang" are highly recommended for their generous portions and complex flavor profiles. If you are looking for a hot breakfast, the "Hanover Hangover" is a local favorite, packed with two eggs, bacon, sausage, cheddar, and a crispy potato latke, providing a hearty start to a demanding workday.
For those who prefer something simpler, a toasted Everything bagel with Scallion Cream Cheese is the gold standard by which all FiDi bagel shops are measured. Many regular customers also swear by the "Catskills" sandwich, which offers a savory blend of roast beef or turkey with muenster cheese, coleslaw, and Russian dressing. It is worth noting that while the sandwiches can be "sloppy" due to the generous amount of condiments and cheese, they are consistently satisfying and well worth the price. Don't forget to check out their selection of Gertel’s black and white cookies or rugelach if you need a sweet finish to your meal. Whether you are eating at the window counter or taking your haul to the nearby park, choosing a classic hand-rolled bagel at Leo's is a definitive Lower Manhattan experience.

Bought twice through a third party app. The service is great, the person who served me is always patient and polite. The bagels are fresh and really tasty. They last pretty nicely throughout the week, they don't get tough or stale. I look forward to buying again!

Went with the Catskills bagel. It’s sloppy. Bagel hard to chew. Size was decent. Satisfactory for the price. Overwhelming with the amount of cheese and condiments. Not excellent but good. It filled me up. So worth it for the price. I may visit again and give them another try. Order something less complicated. There is counter seating along the windows. Was busy during lunch hours. Tourists and local workers but I snagged a seat.

Maybe the best bagel I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a few. Look at the pic and see the cheese melt split. With a quality deli and kitchen, the combinations are endless and each variation is quality. A must visit in NYC, and will def be coming back.

Fantastic bagels shop, bagels are fresh, well loaded and very tasty. Bagels are on the higher price but for the location and great quality I think they are worth it. Limited seating inside but there is a small park next door if the weather is good to sit outside.

Very busy but this is very classic New York City. Bagel. There wasn't anything profouindly innovative but the bagel shop delivered. Texture was unique salt of the salmon + onion + creaminess of the cream cheese and teh crunchiness of the onion and bread. I don't have any complaints :) Bagels taste fresh cooked as well. Lot of people but the service was patient. Wasn't overly hospitable, but within normal range.
