Angela's Cake Introduce
In the heart of Washington Heights, a neighborhood renowned for its vibrant culture and deep-rooted traditions, Angela's Cake stands as a beacon for those seeking the true taste of the Dominican Republic. Located at 2220 Amsterdam Ave, this local bakery has carved out a niche for itself by specializing in authentic Dominican confectionery that transports many New Yorkers back to their childhood. For residents of Upper Manhattan, finding a bakery that avoids the modern trend of heavy fondant in favor of traditional, airy, and rich frosting is a significant find. Angela's Cake focuses on the soulful art of baking, prioritizing flavor and moisture over industrial shortcuts.
The bakery serves as a vital touchpoint for the community, providing the centerpieces for family gatherings, birthdays, and cultural celebrations. For many locals, the experience of a Dominican cake is not just about the sugar; it is about the "suspiro" (meringue frosting) and the specific texture of the sponge that defines a classic Caribbean celebration. Angela's Cake has built its reputation on these specific artisanal details. While the shop maintains a modest and unpretentious storefront, the products emerging from its ovens carry the weight of tradition and the warmth of homemade quality. It is a place where the local dialect and the aroma of baking sugar blend seamlessly, offering a genuine New York experience that feels more like a neighbor's kitchen than a corporate chain.
Location and Accessibility are key components of Angela's Cake's presence in New York City. Situated at 2220 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10032, the bakery is positioned conveniently for residents of Washington Heights and those commuting through the northern reaches of Manhattan. It is easily accessible via the M101 bus and is within walking distance of several local subway stations, making it a feasible stop for those traveling from other boroughs in search of specific Dominican flavors. The surrounding area is a bustling corridor of small businesses, providing a lively backdrop for a bakery that thrives on local foot traffic. Whether you are a local resident picking up a last-minute treat or someone traveling specifically for a pre-ordered cake, its street-level location on Amsterdam Avenue ensures straightforward access.
The bakery is particularly well-known for its ability to evoke nostalgia. Many customers seek out Angela's Cake because it replicates the recipes they grew up with, using rich fillings and moist sponges that are "baked to perfection." The dedication to making cakes "with a lot of love" is a sentiment echoed by many who have celebrated their milestones with an Angela’s creation. However, as with many beloved local spots, the experience can vary depending on the timing and the specific nature of the order. The bakery is a popular choice, which occasionally means it operates at a very high capacity, reflecting the high demand for its authentic recipes among the Dominican diaspora and the wider New York community.

What is worth choosing at Angela's Cake? Without a doubt, the Dulce de Leche cake is the star of the menu. It is frequently described by regulars as being "baked to perfection" and "hitting the spot" for anyone craving a rich, traditional dessert. The balance between the moist cake and the sweet, caramel-like filling creates a flavor profile that is hard to replicate elsewhere in the city. If you are someone who dislikes the gummy texture of fondant, you will appreciate their commitment to traditional frosting, which adds a delicate sweetness without being overpowering. Their cakes are often described as "rich and moist," making them a 10/10 choice for those who value the internal quality of the cake as much as the external appearance.
While the taste of the products is consistently praised, it is important for customers to manage expectations regarding timing and service during peak hours or for complex custom orders. For sensitive events like gender reveals involving colored fillings, it is often best to communicate very clearly about the desired outcome to ensure the results meet your specific needs. Despite the occasional rush associated with a popular neighborhood spot, the flavor remains the primary reason New Yorkers return to Angela's Cake. Choosing this bakery means choosing a piece of Dominican culture, delivered through a cake that feels authentic, homemade, and deeply satisfying.

Extremely disappointed. I have heard many great things about this bakery so decides to order from here for a very last min gender reveal. I will start with customer service, when I arrived at the location, very unappealing, the person that taking the order the order makes you feel like you are bothering her. Whatever, I paid it no mind cause everyone has their days. I was in charge of a gender reveal so decided to come here for some basic cupcakes. I pre- ordered them to be done by 6 pm, with 3 days advance notice. On the day of the event I get there at 6:30 because I was running late. The cupcakes were not ready. Had to wait about 30 minutes for them to be ready but it seemed like they were just starting to make them. Finally get given the cupcakes, looked good to me so I paid and left. When I get to the event place, I’m took out the cupcakes and as the time passed the color of the gender was revealing itself underneath the cupcakes, it seems they added so much coloring it seeped to the bottom. It ruined the entire reveal before it even began. At that point obviously the energy of the party was ruined for me because everyone already knew what the gender was. I give 2 stars because they were very good in taste, but disappointed at how rushed and sloppy they were done and how it literally ruined the entire reveal.

The customer service from the moment you place the order until the moment you withdraw the order is very unpleasant. How is it possible that they deliver this cake to me with that badly positioned sign and also the color of the letter of the base does not match the cake, I asked him to fix me a little because it didn’t look good and the staff instead of giving you support and help told me that that was fine like that! It’s like a favor that they are doing me by paying for the order that didn’t meet my expectations. Very bad Service I didn’t order any cake here.

I would give zero stars if I could. The cakes here are very dry and are expensive. My mom’s name is RAQUEL and they spelled it RAKEL that’s ridiculous. The writing looks like a three year old wrote it. The writing is sloppy and slanted. They are also very rude. I do not recommend getting your cakes from here you will be very disappointed. The frosting is very sticky and the cake taste stale.
