Audrey Bakery and Cafe Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In the vibrant and historic landscape of Manhattan’s Chinatown, Audrey Bakery and Cafe emerges as a sophisticated destination for those seeking a blend of traditional flavors and modern cafe culture. Located at 12 Chatham Square, this establishment stands out for its commitment to freshness and its clean, contemporary aesthetic. While many traditional bakeries in the area lean into a bustling, old-school atmosphere, Audrey Bakery and Cafe offers a quieter, more curated experience. With over 20 years of baking expertise behind its creations, the cafe draws inspiration from Taiwanese, Hong Kong, Korean, and French baking styles to deliver products that are both nostalgic and innovative.
The shop is a proud family-owned business that focuses on delivering high-quality, delicious options to the local New York City community. As soon as customers enter, they are met with a spacious interior and beautifully organized glass displays showcasing a wide variety of sweets and savory buns. Whether you are a local resident stopping by for a morning milk bread or a visitor exploring the rich culture of the Lower East Side, Audrey Bakery and Cafe provides a serene environment to enjoy a premium cup of coffee and a meticulously crafted pastry. The staff is known for being helpful and welcoming, contributing to the shop’s reputation as a reliable neighborhood staple that prioritizes customer satisfaction alongside culinary excellence.
Location and Accessibility
Audrey Bakery and Cafe is prominently situated at 12 Chatham Square, New York, NY 10038, USA. This strategic location is at the intersection of several iconic New York neighborhoods, making it a pivotal spot for both the Chinatown community and those residing in the Two Bridges and Financial District areas. For local users, the cafe is exceptionally accessible via public transportation. It is a short walk from the Canal Street subway hub (servicing the J, Z, N, Q, R, W, 6, and 4 trains) and the East Broadway station (F train). Its proximity to the Manhattan Bridge and the bustling Bowery corridor makes it a natural pitstop for commuters and pedestrians alike.
The cafe is designed to accommodate the fast-paced lifestyle of New York while offering a rare luxury in the neighborhood: space. Unlike many smaller "grab-and-go" spots in the area, Audrey Bakery and Cafe features a dedicated seating area in the back, allowing patrons to sit down, catch up on work, or enjoy a quiet conversation. While street parking in Lower Manhattan remains a challenge, the walkability of the 10038 zip code and the dense network of bus lines—including the M15 and M103—ensure that visiting the shop is a seamless experience. The modern storefront is street-level and easy to spot, serving as a clean and quiet haven amidst the lively energy of Chatham Square.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Audrey Bakery and Cafe, the sponge cake with almonds is a standout choice that perfectly exemplifies the bakery’s commitment to texture and flavor. It is light, fragrant, and provides a delightful crunch that pairs exceptionally well with their strong milk tea or a hot coffee. For those looking for something to take home, the milk bread is widely considered a "must-buy." At a very accessible price point, this loaf is noted for its softness and is frequently used by locals to make the ultimate French toast or simple breakfast sandwiches. The bakery’s taro crisps and green tea cakes are also highly recommended for those who appreciate the subtle, less-sweet profile of traditional Asian desserts.
If you are in the mood for something savory, the fruit and nut topped buns or the traditional pork buns offer a satisfying and quick meal. It is also worth noting that their black forest cake has received praise for being moist and soft, unlike more commercialized versions found elsewhere. To ensure the best selection, locals recommend visiting in the mid-morning when the first large batches of fresh buns have been moved from the ovens to the display cases. Whether you are looking for a quick bite to eat as you run errands or a decadent mousse cake for a special evening, choosing Audrey Bakery and Cafe ensures you are getting a product crafted with 20 years of expertise and a genuine love for the craft of baking.

really nice selection, and they do have some seating in the back. great prices. they have a $18 credit card minimum, fair enough, but they're using an ancient point of sale terminal where you have to sign a slip of paper. they would increase sales with a modern solution like square.

This Cafe offers a modern and thus a cleaner and quieter option in Chinatown. The coffee and sponge cake with almonds were delightful and the staff very helpful. Plus i was able to get a seat.

stopped at this Chinatown bakery for some much needed calories after a day of to-do’s and still the rest of the day to get even more done downtown. the cafe is fairly spacious—a selection of cakes and pastries behind glass display and a number of sweet as well as savory buns, rolls, and sandwiches for easy-grab-n-go meal. there’s seating in the back of the cafe. Audrey’s also serves a variety of coffee, tea, and juice drinks. there’s a nice variety of sandwiches which it made it hard to choose. ended up going with a chicken sandwich—a fried breaded chicken patty with lettuce, tomatoes, and a sauce sandwiches between a soft roll. fresh flavors. it looked good and tasted good. tbh, i am glad i got a sandwich (not some junk food calories) as it was relatively a quick bite to eat as i made my way through the rest of my errands. the service was quick and pleasant. would definitely stop by here again for a quick meal and/or a coffee. not every good meal has to be a long affair but can be short and sweet..err, savory in this case.

Very good black forest cake. Very moist and soft cake not dry like any other place. Price is affordable. The tiramisu however not so good and not the tiramisu I expected. Must try their black forest cake if you are a cake lover.

The buns are delicious here, in particular the fruit and nut topped buns. Intersting flavors like pork buns were good also. The staff is great.
