Manna One Introduce
Introduction / Overview
New York City is home to some of the most diverse culinary pockets in the world, and for those navigating the vibrant streets of Lower Manhattan, Manna One offers a glimpse into the classic Hong Kong-style bakery experience. Nestled in a neighborhood known for its rich cultural tapestry and bustling atmosphere, Manna One serves as a daily staple for locals looking for a quick, budget-friendly bite. This bakery specializes in traditional East Asian baked goods and beverages, providing a no-frills environment that focuses on the essentials of community-based commerce: accessibility and variety.
As a professional local business observer, it is clear that Manna One caters primarily to the neighborhood's residents and commuters who appreciate the convenience of a grab-and-go setup. The bakery is part of a long-standing tradition of small-scale storefronts in the 10038 zip code that maintain the city's reputation for having a bakery on nearly every corner. While the city’s food scene often leans toward the extravagant, Manna One keeps its roots firmly planted in the practical, offering a selection of buns, tarts, and teas that evoke the nostalgic flavors of a traditional Hong Kong café. It is a place where you can find the simple pleasures of a cold drink or a warm pastry without the high-end Manhattan price tag.
Location and Accessibility
Manna One is located at 27 Catherine St, New York, NY 10038, USA. This specific location places the bakery right on the edge of the Two Bridges neighborhood and Chinatown, a historic area that is densely packed with residential buildings and small businesses. For New Yorkers, Catherine Street is a familiar thoroughfare that connects the bustling energy of the Bowery and East Broadway with the quieter residential blocks closer to the East River. Its position makes it an easy stop for those heading toward the Manhattan Bridge or those spending a day exploring the unique shops of the Lower East Side.
Accessibility is one of the bakery's strong suits for local users. It is well-positioned for pedestrians who are already in the area for errands or work. For those using public transit, the shop is within walking distance of several major subway lines, including the F train at East Broadway and the B and D trains at Grand Street. Additionally, several local bus routes serve the immediate vicinity, ensuring that even if you aren't living directly on Catherine Street, the bakery is easily reachable. The storefront is a classic NYC walk-in, designed for high turnover and quick service, fitting perfectly into the fast-paced lifestyle of Lower Manhattan inhabitants.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Manna One, the beverage menu is a significant draw for many. Specifically, the cold lemon drink is highly recommended by those looking for a refreshing, well-balanced beverage that doesn't break the bank. At a price point around $2.75 for a small size, it represents one of the better values in the area for a hand-prepared drink. It is particularly popular during the warmer months when New Yorkers are walking the sun-drenched streets of the Lower East Side. Pairing this with their Hong Kong-style milk tea—known for its smooth, creamy texture and strong tea base—provides an authentic experience that rivals more expensive tea shops in the city.
On the pastry side, the egg tarts are a standout choice. A quintessential part of any Hong Kong-style bakery, these tarts are valued for their flaky crust and sweet, custard-like center. While some reviewers have noted that the buns can be dense, the egg tarts often provide a more delicate alternative for those with a sweet tooth. It is also worth keeping an eye out for their discount announcements. While the application of these discounts can vary, catching a deal on their variety of buns can make your lunch or snack even more economical. For the best experience, it is generally advised to visit earlier in the day when the selection is at its peak and the pastries are at their freshest. Whether you are a local resident or just passing through Catherine Street, Manna One offers a humble and authentic slice of New York's bakery scene that is certainly worth checking out for its affordability and friendly service.

Came to buy a cold lemon drink (small: $2.75). Taste really good. They also sell egg tarts, Hong Kong style milk tea, and other variety of buns. Cheap price. The owner and workers are also kind. Definitely check out this spot.

Discount buns are only discounted if the lady feels like it. Even if their discount announcement is going on. Buns were dense and bland. All the good reviews seem to be from relatives or people with bad taste.

As a Chinatown native, best pineapple bun I’ve ever had.

A good place to get pastries, coffee, cake or bun in affordable price. The Chinese New Year is coming, the bakery usually offer some fresh made traditional pastries. And a good time to enjoy it.

I've been frequenting this bakery for over 25 years now, and it's still as fresh and tasty as the first time!! Traditional Chinese bakery that bakes all your favorite buns, cookies and cakes! Deliciously reasonable pricing is a plus! I try to get their coffee anytime I possibly can, it's truly among the best. The workers are so extremely sweet and kind! They certainly deserve a 10 out of 10! Pork buns are TO DIE FOR... Better get there in the morning EARLY, though! They have a tremendous variety, but after 11AM, not so much!!
