Breads Bakery Introduce
In a city where the bakery culture is as diverse and fast-paced as the people who inhabit it, Breads Bakery has established itself as a true cornerstone of the New York culinary landscape. For those of us living or working in the New York region, the mention of "Breads" immediately evokes images of golden-brown crusts, intricate laminations, and the intoxicating scent of yeast and cocoa. The Rockefeller Center location at 1230 6th Ave serves as a high-profile outpost for this beloved institution, bringing world-class Israeli-Danish baking techniques to the very center of Midtown Manhattan. Whether you are a local professional grabbing a morning espresso or a resident seeking the perfect loaf for a weekend dinner, Breads Bakery offers an experience that feels both upscale and fundamentally communal.
The philosophy behind Breads Bakery is rooted in a commitment to traditional baking methods combined with modern innovation. Since its inception, the bakery has focused on small-batch production, ensuring that every item on the shelf—from the iconic babka to the daily sourdough—meets a rigorous standard of freshness and quality. For New Yorkers, Breads represents a reliable constant in a city of fleeting food trends. It is a place that respects the craft of the baker, utilizing high-quality ingredients and patient fermentation processes to create products that stand out even in a competitive market. The Rockefeller Center site, nestled among the skyscrapers and historic landmarks, provides a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere that captures the "hustle" of New York while offering a delicious reason to slow down, even if just for a moment.

What is worth choosing
If you are walking into Breads Bakery at Rockefeller Center, the absolute "must-have" is the Chocolate Babka. It is the item that put the bakery on the map and for very good reason; the dough is incredibly soft and brioche-like, while the filling is a generous, decadent swirl of high-quality chocolate. It is consistently described as rich and gooey, living up to the significant hype that surrounds it. For those who want to experience what won the 2025 "Best Croissant" award, the plain croissant is a fascinating choice. It features a deeper, more toasted profile than many French-style patisseries, offering a unique "toasted" flavor that sets it apart from more conventional versions found at other high-end spots.
For a savory snack or a quick lunch, the Mediterranean-inspired items are highly worth choosing. Their sandwiches on freshly baked baguettes provide a satisfying crunch that showcases the bakery's titular strength. If you are looking for a smaller sweet treat, the Rugelach is a solid option that pairs perfectly with their robust coffee. Many locals also swear by the specialty lattes, which are prepared with a level of care often reserved for standalone specialty coffee shops. Whether you are picking up a full loaf of sourdough for your weekly groceries or just stopping in for a quick "Babka slice" fix, choosing Breads Bakery means choosing a quintessential slice of New York's modern culinary history. The combination of high-quality baking and efficient service makes it a 5-star atmosphere for any Midtown visitor.

I had some high expectations winning first place for best croissant in nyc 2025. The plain croissant had a heavier browning/toasting compared to other croissants I’ve had from aristocault to Costco or Trader Joe’s mini croissants. Breads bakery laminate was great but I was not a fan of the taste and had to toss. 1 star Rugelach was ok. Service and atmosphere were great and prompt. 5 stars.

Breads Bakery is a cozy spot known for its freshly baked goods, and their famous chocolate babka absolutely lives up to the hype—rich, gooey, and perfectly layered. The bakery offers a nice variety of breads, pastries, and coffee, making it a great stop for breakfast, a snack, or something to take home. The space can get busy, but the quality is consistently high. A solid choice for anyone with a sweet tooth in Midtown.

Horrible place! First the Americano took a lot of time even though the store was empty and was very watered down! Also the almond croissant was burnt ! Good seating however!

Dear all my black sesame folks, Black Sesame Babka is here, but only in March! Breads Bakery has worked together with Molly Yeh to curate this life-changing, indulgent treat. I loved it so much that I recommended my friends to buy together! *Black Sesame Babka ($17.50 each, $30 for two) They generously stuff the babka with so much black sesame paste. The rich, nutty black sesame filling pairs perfectly with the sweetness of slightly melted, crunchy chocolate. The top achieves a golden-brown, flaky perfection. The buttery and toasted flavor somehow reminds me of shredded coconut filling in hong kong style cocktail bun (雞尾包). I’m not someone with a big sweet tooth, but this black sesame babka totally won me over. I heated up the babka in toaster oven at 350°F for 7 minutes—chef’s kiss. I was very surprised the baking sheet wasn’t drenched in oil. In fact, there was no oil at all and the babka didn’t feel oily either. They’ve truly mastered the art of making babka.
