What is worth choosing
When you step into Buttercup BakeShop, the options can be delightfully overwhelming, but there are several standout choices that have earned the shop its stellar reputation among New Yorkers. Foremost among these is their signature Lemon Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. This particular cake is frequently cited by locals as one of the best in the city, striking a perfect balance between the zest of the lemon and the rich, smooth texture of the frosting. It is a refreshing yet indulgent choice that works equally well for a sophisticated dinner party or a casual family gathering.
For those looking for something for a smaller group or a personal treat, their cupcakes and individual treats are highly recommended. The recipes lean into a traditional "home-style" aesthetic, focusing on flavor and moisture rather than just sugary topping. If you are planning a milestone event, such as a 30th birthday, taking advantage of their custom cake service is a must. The shop is remarkably flexible and committed to getting the design exactly right. Even if an initial concept needs adjustment, their willingness to redo designs on short notice ensures that the final product is exactly what the client envisioned. Finally, do not overlook their coffee service. While the cakes are the stars of the show, the shop functions excellently as a local coffee stop. Pairing a hot cup of coffee with one of their "additional treats"—be it a cookie or a bar—is a simple pleasure that many Midtown East residents swear by. The reasonable pricing for the quality provided is the final factor that makes Buttercup BakeShop a destination worth visiting time and again. Whether you need a quick caffeine fix or a centerpiece for a grand celebration, this shop delivers with a level of care and sweetness that is uniquely its own.

I ordered a birthday cake and they exceeded my expectations. I placed the order over the phone and they were so patient, helpful and made amazing suggestions. During pick up the 2 ladies were so sweet and helpful and expressed the excitement they had when they were decorating the cake. Everyone else loved the cake! It tasted like a fresh homeade cake and it was said that it was almost too beautiful to cut. I ordered a lemon cake with cream cheese frosting and it was one of the best lemon cakes we've had. I also ordered additional treats which were also good. I highly recommend.

I had a great experience with Buttercup BakeShop and would highly recommend them to others! We had Buttercup BakeShop make a custom cake for my friend’s 30th birthday. The initial design didn’t come out exactly the way we wanted, but they took the time to completely redo the design and managed to get it done in a few hours. The cake was reasonably priced — around $50 for a 9 inch large cake. The design was more complex and cost $85, so the total was $135. I really appreciated their patience and understanding, and their willingness to completely redo the design! They even refrigerated or froze the cake before pickup to ensure it was more stable. They also took the time to carefully package everything so that there wouldn’t be any damage to the cake during transport. Their cake was delicious and my friend loved it! Everyone was complimenting both the cake design and taste. Would 100% recommend Buttercup BakeShop to everyone and go back again!

My husband got me a cake for my birthday and it was so delicious. So fresh and reasonably priced. The chocolate frosting tasted like brownie batter and the vanilla cake was so light and airy. Highly recommend and will be back for more cake.

If there was an option for 10 stars, I would definitely give this place a 10 star review. Service was top notch the girls at the front immediately asked what I wanted and made my experience incredible. I asked for a blue cupcake for a gender reveal for my daughter but they offered to hide the color inside the cake which was surprising to me because I didn’t think that possible without calling ahead. It was perfect! The cupcakes were amazing and the extra cookie was delicious. This place was great!!!!!

Literally the best cupcakes I’ve ever had. My favorites have to be the smores, apple pie à la mode , and the hummingbird. Definitely a must visit when you come to NYC
