Deli Manjoo

221-16 Horace Harding Expy, Oakland Gardens, NY 11364, USA

5.0
It's a small stand located on the parking lot side of the korean grocery store. I have been coming here for years. The owner is so kind and warm. Great korean pastries like the walnut red bean paste bread and sweet fish shaped bread. You can call ahead to order them freshly made or make an order and get them after running errands in the plaza. He has some available on hand too if you don't want to wait. My favorite is the walnut bread and Tokyo takiyaki. - Y S

The essence of Deli Manjoo is rooted in simplicity and dedication. Operating as a specialized stand, it focuses on doing a few things exceptionally well rather than offering an overwhelming menu. For years, this spot has served as a reliable go-to for families, commuters, and shoppers looking for a quick, warm snack that feels like a homemade hug. What is Worth Choosing

When visiting Deli Manjoo, the menu may be concise, but every item is a masterpiece of Korean snacking. The absolute must-try item is the Walnut Red Bean Paste Bread. These small, bite-sized delights are shaped like walnuts and filled with a smooth, sweet red bean paste and actual pieces of walnut, providing a perfect contrast between the soft dough and the crunchy nut. They are best enjoyed while still warm, as the steam softens the bean paste and enhances the aroma of the dough.

Another top recommendation is the sweet Fish-Shaped Bread, known traditionally as Bungeo-ppang. This is a classic Korean winter street food that Deli Manjoo perfects year-round. The exterior is crisp and golden, while the interior remains chewy and filled with generous amounts of sweet filling. It is a favorite for children and adults alike, serving as both a dessert and a satisfying snack. For those who enjoy a variation on this theme, the Tokyo Taiyaki is also highly recommended. This version often features a slightly different batter or filling style that caters to fans of Japanese-style fish-shaped cakes, providing a lovely variety for the palate.

Many regular customers suggest the "shop and wait" method. By placing your order before you enter the grocery store and picking it up on your way out, you ensure that you receive the freshest possible batch, often coming straight out of the hot molds. This attention to freshness is what elevates Deli Manjoo from a simple snack stand to a premier local bakery experience. Whether you are buying a small bag for yourself or a larger box to share with coworkers or family, choosing the signature walnut bread or the iconic Taiyaki ensures a high-quality, authentic taste of East Asian pastry tradition right here in Oakland Gardens.

In conclusion, Deli Manjoo represents the best of New York's local food scene—unpretentious, authentic, and deeply rooted in the community. It offers a sensory escape through its flavors and a reliable point of connection through its friendly service. If you find yourself in the Oakland Gardens area, making a stop at this Horace Harding Expressway stand is more than just a transaction; it is a chance to support a dedicated local business while enjoying some of the finest traditional Korean pastries available in the city. The combination of accessibility, warmth, and culinary excellence makes it a true neighborhood treasure that continues to stand the test of time.
