Gooey on The Inside (Chrystie Street) Introduce
In the bustling heart of the Lower East Side, a neighborhood defined by its relentless energy and culinary innovation, Gooey on The Inside (Chrystie Street) has carved out a niche as a true destination for dessert enthusiasts. Unlike traditional bakeries that focus on a broad array of breads and pastries, this "unique little dessert spot" leans heavily into a single, decadent mission: creating the most indulgent, thick, and molten-centered cookies in New York City. For locals navigating the vibrant streets of downtown Manhattan, Gooey on The Inside offers a sanctuary of sweetness that feels less like a commercial franchise and more like a carefully guarded neighborhood secret, tucked away just below street level.
The philosophy at Gooey on The Inside is centered on the concept of comfort through texture. Each cookie is engineered to provide a multi-sensory experience—a slightly crisp, golden exterior that yields to a center so soft it borders on the molten. For many New Yorkers, this is the ultimate "comfort food," providing a warm, nostalgic embrace in every bite. Whether you are popping in after a long workday or ordering a box for a late-night gathering at your apartment, the cafe’s focus on high-quality, all-natural ingredients without preservatives ensures that while the experience is indulgent, the craftsmanship remains artisanal and honest.
Location and Accessibility
Gooey on The Inside is located at 163 Chrystie St, New York, NY 10002, USA. Its position in the Lower East Side (LES) makes it a central hub for those exploring the eclectic mix of bars, boutiques, and galleries that define the area. The shop itself is a "cozy and a bit tucked-away" space, situated below street level, which adds to its charm as a "local find." This subterranean setting provides an intimate vibe that contrasts beautifully with the industrial energy of Chrystie Street above.
Accessibility is a strong suit for this location. It is conveniently positioned near several major subway lines, making it an easy stop for commuters and residents from all over the city. The Grand St station (B and D lines) is just a few blocks away, and the Bowery station (J and Z lines) is equally close. For those coming from the F line, the 2nd Ave station is within easy walking distance. While street parking on Chrystie Street can be a typical New York challenge, the shop’s primary focus on quick-service pickup and local delivery ensures that you don't need a parking spot to enjoy their famous treats. Its late-night hours, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays when it stays open until midnight or later, make it a premier destination for the LES nightlife crowd seeking a sweet finish to their evening.

What is worth choosing
When ordering from Gooey on The Inside, the first decision you have to make is whether you want a traditional handheld experience or something even more indulgent. For the handheld fans, the Chocolate Chip Chunk is the gold standard. It features a blend of dark and milk chocolate chips with dark chocolate chunks in a golden dough, delivering a "melt-in-your-mouth" experience that many locals swear by. If you want something a bit more festive, the Birthday Cake cookie—complete with real birthday cake flavor and colorful sprinkles—is a top-tier choice that satisfies a serious sweet tooth.
However, if you are ordering for delivery or a special night in, the "Warm Molten Cookie in a Jar a la Mode" is truly worth choosing. This isn't just a cookie; it's a multi-layered dessert experience that combines the shop's signature gooey texture with cold vanilla ice cream and rich ganache. Specifically, the "Dark Chocolate Caramel S'mores" jar is a standout, bringing the campfire feel to the city with toasted marshmallow and decadent caramel. While some reviewers note the cookies are "ridiculously sweet" and "almost like a ball of cookie dough," this is precisely what makes them worth it for those who find standard cookies too dry or boring. If you’re chasing that ultra-soft, indulgent experience in a fun neighborhood nook—or delivered straight to your door—Gooey on The Inside hits the mark every time. It’s the perfect quirky stop for anyone in the mood for something warm, sweet, and fundamentally different from the average New York bakery.

I popped into this unique little dessert spot on Chrystie Street for a late-afternoon sweet treat, and it was definitely memorable. The vibe is cozy and a bit tucked-away — you’ll find it down below street level in a small space that feels more like a local find than a typical bakery. What they’re known for are their thick, gooey cookies — served warm with a soft, almost molten center and a slightly crisp exterior. They’ve got creative flavors like chocolate chip, birthday cake, and even croissant-style or specialty takes that make each bite feel indulgent and comforting. I loved how rich and warm the cookies were — perfect for satisfying a serious sweet tooth — but they can be super sweet and quite gooey, which might not be for everyone. Some people think the price is a bit steep for what you get, but if you’re chasing that ultra-soft cookie experience in a fun little neighborhood nook, this place hits the mark. Overall: a quirky cookie stop with character — great for a late-afternoon dessert or a casual hang with friends, especially if you’re in the mood for something warm, sweet, and a little different.

Naaaaaah, this ain’t it yall. For one this cookie is ridiculously too sweet. Two, It hard to even call it a cookie, it’s not flat, rather oblate, it might as well be sphere. Lastly, I’m all for a cookie with a gooey center but c’mon it’s not even cooked at this point it’s just a ball of cookie dough. Smh I really wanted to like it but if I’d make any suggestion it would be make them flatter, semi sweet and a bit more solid with crispy edges because it’s falling apart when you pick it up . However the staff were very friendly and welcoming, great customer service.

This hole in the wall (literally located in a basement!) cookie shop is so underrated !! The name of the shop is very fitting for its menu items, as all the cookies had a harder outer shell and the gooeist / slightly underbaked insides🙂↕️🙂↕️All of the cookies came out super warm, and when you break it apart all the chocolate is half-melted 🍫This place also has some creative items, like the Croissant Chocolate Chip Cookie (which was one of my favs and a brand new menu item!) and the Dubai Chocolate Cookie (which was my fav since it had a hint of salt in it)😇

I’ve walked past this spot so many times and was always a little skeptical, but I finally gave it a try — and I’m so glad I did. This place deserves way more attention. The chocolate chip cookie tasted homemade, not overly sweet like most popular cookie spots in the city. I usually can only take a few bites and end up sharing because it’s too much, but with this one, I didn’t want to stop eating. It was warm, had the perfect balance of crunchy edges and a gooey center, and just felt like a really satisfying treat. Definitely coming back. I don’t think it’s worth $8/$9 for one though. I’d rather get an elevated pastry elsewhere.

The people working behind the counter were incredibly friendly and warm. The cookies are $8 each but they are huge, and can easily be split between friends. I loved the apple pie cookie, not too sweet and it tasted just like apple pie crust. The banana cream pie filling was a little too sweet for me but the cookie itself tasted like nilla wafers and was so yummy.
