Double Crispy Bakery Introduce
For those navigating the vibrant, sensory-rich streets of Manhattan's Chinatown, certain landmarks are defined not by towering architecture, but by the irresistible aroma of caramelized sugar and buttery pastry. Double Crispy Bakery, located at 230 Grand St, is one such destination. Positioned in the heart of the 10013 area, this bakery has earned a steadfast reputation among local New Yorkers as a premier purveyor of authentic Cantonese and Portuguese-style baked goods. While the neighborhood boasts many traditional shops, Double Crispy stands out for its commitment to freshness, its extensive selection of daily-made treats, and a level of quality that keeps locals returning decade after decade.
Walking into Double Crispy Bakery is a quintessential New York experience. It is a modest, unpretentious space where the focus is entirely on the craft. The glass display cases are a kaleidoscope of golden-brown buns, delicate cakes, and the shop’s namesake crispy-crusted tarts. It is the kind of place where you’ll see neighborhood grandmas sipping milk tea alongside younger foodies who have trekked across boroughs for a specific pastry. The atmosphere is bustling yet welcoming, embodying the "hidden gem" spirit that makes Chinatown dining so rewarding. Whether you are a regular on your morning commute or a visitor looking for a true taste of the city, Double Crispy offers a warm, organized, and remarkably clean environment to satisfy any craving for traditional Asian sweets and savories.
Location and Accessibility are key to Double Crispy’s popularity. Situated at 230 Grand St, New York, NY 10013, the bakery is conveniently located near the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Grand Street. This central location makes it highly accessible via several major subway lines. The Grand St station (B, D trains) is just a few blocks away, and the Canal St station complex (J, N, Q, R, W, Z, 6 trains) is within a comfortable walking distance. For those living or working in the Lower East Side, SoHo, or Little Italy, Double Crispy is a perfect stop-off point. It is important for visitors to keep in mind that, like many of the most authentic spots in the neighborhood, Double Crispy is a cash-only business. While there are numerous ATMs in the immediate vicinity, coming prepared with physical currency ensures a smooth and quick transaction during the busy morning and afternoon rushes.

What is worth choosing at Double Crispy Bakery? If you only try one thing, it must be the Portuguese Egg Tart (Po Tat). These are a revelation—featuring a deeply caramelized, brûléed top and a shatteringly flaky crust that holds a creamy, rich custard center. For those who prefer a more traditional flavor, the Hong Kong-style egg tart is equally impressive, offering a smoother, eggier custard with a mild sweetness that isn't overwhelming. Locals often recommend arriving before 2:00 PM, as these signature tarts are made fresh daily and tend to sell out quickly due to high demand.
Beyond the tarts, the Wife Cake (Wintermelon Pastry) is a must-try for those seeking traditional Cantonese flavors. It features a thin, flaky skin and a chewy, sweet wintermelon filling. If you are in a savory mood, the shredded dry pork buns and the Mexican-style dry pork buns are highly regarded for their generous fillings and soft, pillowy dough. For a snack that will keep you going, the peanut mochi and the variety packs of fresh mochi (often featuring strawberry, mango, and red bean) are incredibly soft and flavorful. Finally, don't overlook their sponge cake; at approximately $1.75, it is a massive, moist, and fluffy slice of "simple happiness" that perfectly complements a hot cup of their "glorious" milk coffee. Whether you are grabbing a single tart or a full box of assorted buns, Double Crispy Bakery provides a taste of authentic New York Chinatown that is increasingly rare to find.

Hidden bakery you can not miss in China Town! All the food they serve is delicious especially their egg tarts. The prawn chip is good too, I almost finished the full bag in a day. I recommend coming earlier in the day because some of there items go out fast and made fresh dailyy. Every time I come to Manhattan I always make an effort to stop by whenever I can.

If you’re ever looking for a Chinese bakery in New York City, look no further than here! The freshest, most savory and authentic Chinese custard you’ll ever have. Would definitely recommend

If you like sitting among actual Chinese people, this is a good place. The locals buy and eat here, what other compliment does a bakery need. Cash only, and I missed the sign when I ordered a coffee. A man watching the scene asked how much I need and offered to pay for me. This gets extra points for being sweet and kind. Turns out I did have enough change for the coffee with me --$1.50. All sorts of buns, egg custard, white bread, coconut cream buns. Baked right here in the back. Gift boxes ready if you are shopping for a celebration. Juices, smoothies, coffee, teas, bubble tea. One table with seats for eating in. Modest, quiet, the place seems clean and we'll organized. I'm having coffee with milk only and it's surprisingly glorious. Took a friend here today because she loves the Triangle cake here. She also fell in love with how neatly packaged all the goods are. I tried the sausage scallion bread and ate the entire thing because it's so surprisingly good.

Really good pineapple bun - fluffy white bread, slightly sweet, with generous crispy bolo topping. I got two mini buns for $2.25. Wife cake (lo por beng) was average. Cash only. Would come again for the pineapple buns or try other buns.

I saw the poster outside, so I entered to purchase snowskin mooncakes. The taro mooncake was delicious, nothing like the traditional lotus mooncake 💜 I ate the entire thing in one sitting. The bakery also sells $5 packs of 4 mochi 🍡 I thought it was only bean paste, but each mochi was a different flavor: strawberry, mango, melon, and red bean. They were incredibly fresh and soft, very delicious. I'll definitely be returning to pick up some more snowskin mooncake, perhaps in the other flavors (green tea, black sesame, etc).
