Black Seed Bagels | Nolita Introduce
In a city defined by its morning rituals, Black Seed Bagels in Nolita has successfully introduced a modern twist to a centuries-old New York tradition. Since its inception, this establishment has stood out by blending the best of two worlds: the classic, chewy density of a New York bagel and the honey-boiled, wood-fired technique synonymous with Montreal. For residents of Lower Manhattan, Black Seed is more than just a quick stop; it is a destination for those who appreciate the craft of artisanal baking. The shop captures the chic yet approachable vibe of Nolita, serving as a reliable morning anchor for the neighborhood’s creative professionals, busy commuters, and weekend explorers alike.
Walking into the Elizabeth Street location, you are immediately greeted by the distinct aroma of burning wood and toasted sesame. Unlike many high-volume commercial operations, Black Seed Bagels prides itself on a boutique approach. Each bagel is hand-rolled, boiled in honey-infused water, and then finished in a wood-fired oven. This meticulous process results in a bagel with a slightly crisp, charred exterior and a dense, flavorful interior that stands up perfectly to a variety of savory and sweet spreads. It is an elevated take on the breakfast staple that resonates with the sophisticated palate of the New York region, offering a gourmet alternative to the standard deli roll without losing the soul of the city's food culture.
Location and Accessibility
Black Seed Bagels is perfectly positioned at 170 Elizabeth St, New York, NY 10012, USA. Situated in the heart of Nolita (North of Little Italy), the shop is surrounded by some of the most fashionable boutiques and quiet residential streets in Manhattan. This location is particularly beloved by locals because it sits just a stone's throw away from the iconic Elizabeth Street Garden. This proximity allows customers to pick up their orders and enjoy a serene breakfast in one of the few green oases in Lower Manhattan, a practice highly recommended by frequent visitors to the area.
For those traveling from other parts of the city, the shop is exceptionally easy to reach. It is centrally located near several major transportation hubs. The Bowery Station (J, Z trains) is just a short walk away, as is the Spring St Station (6 train) and the Prince St Station (N, R, W trains). Its location in the 10012 zip code makes it a central meeting point for those living in Soho, the Lower East Side, and Greenwich Village. Whether you are navigating the city on foot or via the MTA, Black Seed Bagels is a convenient and accessible stop on any downtown journey.

What is Worth Choosing
If you are visiting Black Seed Bagels for the first time, you must experience the base product in its purest form. An "Everything" bagel with their signature cream cheese is the standard by which all other bagels should be measured. The seeds and grains are toasted to perfection in the wood oven, providing a crunch that is hard to find elsewhere. For a more substantial meal, the signature breakfast sandwiches are the standout choice. Local enthusiasts often return for the perfectly cooked eggs and the high-quality bacon, which pair beautifully with the slightly sweet notes of the honey-boiled dough.
In addition to the food, the beverages at the Elizabeth Street location are highly regarded. If you are visiting during the cooler months, the hot chocolate is a "must-try" and has been described by travelers and locals alike as a highlight of their morning. While the shop maintains high standards, it is always recommended to check your order if you are using delivery services to ensure everything is exactly as requested, as the team works at a very fast pace to keep up with the Nolita rush. For the best experience, do as the locals do: grab your favorite bagel sandwich and a steaming cup of coffee, and take the short walk over to the nearby park to enjoy a true New York morning. Black Seed Bagels offers a "fabulous" start to the day that captures the unique energy of downtown Manhattan.

Absolutely disgusting. Ordered through Uber Eats- driver did terrible in the sense that my coffee was spilled everywhere. Trying to make light of situation I attempted to eat the bagel only to open it and find a long disgusting hair in my bagel. Where is the standard of cleanliness. This is absolutely unacceptable. When I called the restaurant all she had to say was call Uber Eats we can’t help you. Not even taking accountability for the hair found in the food from an employee.

Fabulous breakfast bagels! We were in NYC four mornings and got breakfast there twice. I wish this place was near me here in MI! The service was quick and the coffee and hot chocolate were superb! We took our food and ate in the Elizabeth Street Garden park. It was wonderful!

I came here with my sister and when we first walked in the atmosphere is very nice. I love the decor and it was pretty clean. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon. The bagel was ok, plain cc ok, smoked salmon was amazing though. My sister ordered a salt bagel with tofu scallion cc. The cc was thin and dripped everywhere. It was like runny goop. Tasted terrible. The bagel was thin and doughy, not something you want in a bagel. Overall, the store was very nice inside and smoked salmon is amazing, but don’t get the vegan options for cc.

Incredible food. Staff is friendly and responsive. I always order for pickup, so go to the front by the glass box where they keep all the baked goods on display. There might be a big line depending on the time so that's why I always order ahead. My favorite bagel, the BEC, is a little pricey at $13 including the tip, but that bagel is enough to get me through the entire work day until I leave around 7pm. Solid place, would recommend

Do not get me wrong, I order a bagel from here every week. I really like them. But my bagel is almost always burnt and there's always a piece of something else in my bagels. It can be a Plain bagel with cc and you find a random caper or a little piece of lettuce. I wish they were more consistent because I really love their bagels when they are not burnt or cross contaminated.
