Petee's Pie Company Introduce
In a city where "a slice" usually refers to pizza, Petee's Pie Company has successfully shifted the conversation toward the buttery, flaky, and sweet. Since opening its doors in 2014, this Lower East Side gem has become a mandatory stop for New Yorkers who appreciate the art of traditional American baking. Founded by Petra "Petee" Paredez, who hails from a legendary pie-baking family in Virginia, the shop brings a farmhouse sensibility to the urban grit of Delancey Street. It isn't just a bakery; it functions as a specialized coffee shop and dessert bar where the quality of the ingredients is the undisputed star of the show. The aroma of roasting fruit and browning butter often wafts onto the sidewalk, acting as a siren song for locals and tourists alike.
The philosophy at Petee's is refreshingly simple yet rigorous: use the best local ingredients to create pies that taste like a better version of home. By sourcing grass-fed butter from New York State and organic flour that is stone-ground daily, Petee’s achieves a crust that is notably superior to the mass-produced alternatives found elsewhere in the city. For the residents of the Lower East Side, the shop has become a reliable neighborhood fixture, offering a cozy, minimalist interior that feels personal and unpretentious. Whether you are seeking a morning caffeine fix with a side of breakfast pie or a late-night dessert after a meal in nearby Chinatown, Petee's provides a high-quality, authentic New York experience that honors seasonal rhythms and local farmers.
Location and Accessibility
Petee's Pie Company is centrally located at 61 Delancey St, New York, NY 10002, USA. Positioned just off the corner of Delancey and Allen Streets, it sits at a bustling intersection of Manhattan culture, where the historic Lower East Side meets the trendy energy of the Bowery. The shop’s storefront is modest and "tiny in real estate," but it serves as a massive focal point for the community. The interior is primarily designed for grab-and-go service, though it features a charming driftwood ledge-counter for those who wish to enjoy their slice on-site while soaking in the "heavenly" scent of the kitchen.
Accessibility is a major highlight for this location. It is incredibly easy to reach via public transit, situated just a "hop, skip, and a jump" from the Delancey St - Essex St station, which serves the F, M, J, and Z trains. Additionally, the Grand Street station (B and D trains) and the Bowery station (J and Z trains) are both within a short five-minute walk. This connectivity makes Petee's a convenient destination for commuters traveling from Brooklyn or Uptown. For those exploring the nearby Tenement Museum or SoHo, the shop provides a perfect resting point. While street parking is limited—as is standard for this part of Manhattan—the high density of subway and bus options (including the M15 and M103) ensures that a world-class slice of pie is never out of reach.

Features and Highlights
Several distinct features contribute to Petee's reputation as arguably the best pie shop in New York City:
- Local & Seasonal Sourcing: They utilize Hudson Valley apples, wild Maine blueberries, and Montmorency cherries from Upstate New York, ensuring the fruit is bright and flavorful.
- Superior Crust Quality: The use of New York State grass-fed butter and organic stone-ground flour results in a crust that is famously thick, flaky, and slightly salty.
- Dietary Inclusivity: The shop is well-known for offering high-quality vegan and gluten-free pie options that do not compromise on texture or taste.
- Small-Batch Baking: Pies are baked in small batches twice daily, ensuring that the product on the counter was likely in the oven just hours—or even minutes—before.
- Unique "Slice Cream": A signature innovation where their famous pies are swirled into homemade vanilla ice cream for the ultimate hybrid treat.
- Authentic Vibe: The shop maintains a transparent "friend's kitchen" atmosphere where customers can see the bakers at work directly behind the counter.

What is Worth Choosing
If it is your first time visiting Petee's, the **Salty Chocolate Chess Slice** is a perennial favorite that perfectly illustrates the shop's mastery of balance. This Southern classic is elevated with bittersweet chocolate and a hit of sea salt, creating a rich, custard-like texture that isn't overly sweet. For those who prefer fruit-forward desserts, the **Cherry Crumble Pie** is a standout choice. Real customers often rave about the crumble topping, which includes nuts for a salty bite that complements the tartness of the Montmorency cherries. Another excellent fruit option is the **Wild Maine Blueberry Slice**, which uses organic berries and very little added sugar, allowing the natural sweetness of the fruit to shine through.
For a quintessential New York experience, the **Banana Cream Slice** is "absolutely divine," featuring old-fashioned vanilla pudding and fresh whipped cream. If you're looking for something uniquely local, try the **Hudson Valley Apple Slice**, which celebrates the state's heirloom apple varieties in a crust that many consider the best in the city. For a truly indulgent treat, always ask for your slice "à la mode" with a scoop of their house-churned vanilla bean ice cream. No matter your choice, pairing your slice with a robust cup of their hot coffee provides the perfect bitter contrast to the buttery pastry, making for a sophisticated and satisfying Lower East Side snack.

Stopped by Petee's Pie Company on the Lower East Side and really enjoyed it. The cherry crumble pie was very good the crumble had nuts in it, which added a slight salty bite that balanced the sweetness of the cherries perfectly. The texture and flavor combo worked really well and made it stand out.

I do like my wild blueberry crumble a lot and I intend to buy another slice tomorrow. The crust was very crunchy and the fillings were not too sweet and just the right amount versus the flour. The base was nicely constructed and did not feel too heavy.

This pie spot in Delancey is their perfect spot for some cozy pie. When you walk-in, it smells absolutely heavenly. The inside of the shop has limited seating and is mostly made for grab-and-go. They also have a variety of pies on display, but you can get slices in little boxes to enjoy! I got their seasonal blueberry and apple pies, and they were both delicious. I thought the apple pie was a bit too sweet for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed the blueberry one. Not normally the biggest fan of pies, but these were good!

Slice of pie was $8. Just felt too small for the taste. It wasn't bad. But not anything I'd go out of my way to get again or stop for unfortunately. And that's a shame because I was really looking forward to this shop.

The blueberry pie was the best followed by the pecan. Pumpkin was eh. Really small shop. They were sold out of a couple of options in the evening. Would have loved to have tried the banana pie but it was gone
