Las Americas Bakery Introduce
In the vibrant, multicultural heart of Jackson Heights, Queens, few places capture the essence of community and culinary tradition quite like Las Americas Bakery. Located on the bustling 37th Avenue, this local gem has served as a cornerstone for the neighborhood for decades, offering a warm sanctuary for those seeking the comforting flavors of Latin America, specifically the rich baking traditions of Colombia. For New Yorkers living in or visiting the area, the bakery is more than just a place to grab a quick bite; it is a sensory experience where the aroma of freshly baked bread and the steam from hot chocolate create an atmosphere that feels like a home away from home.
Jackson Heights is world-renowned for its diverse food scene, but Las Americas Bakery stands out by focusing on simplicity and quality. While many modern establishments try to do too much, this bakery has mastered a specific niche: providing high-quality, authentic staples that evoke deep nostalgia. Whether you are a long-time resident who has been visiting since your teenage years or a newcomer exploring the rich tapestry of Queens, the bakery offers a consistent and welcoming environment that reflects the true spirit of New York City’s "World's Borough."
The establishment is characterized by its unpretentious charm. It doesn't rely on flashy decor or over-the-top marketing; instead, it relies on the word of mouth of satisfied customers who return year after year. The local New York perspective on this bakery is one of deep-seated loyalty. It is the kind of place where the staff remembers your face, and the food consistently hits the mark, providing a reliable escape from the fast-paced nature of city life. In a city that is constantly changing, Las Americas Bakery remains a steadfast reminder of the importance of tradition and the power of a perfectly baked loaf of bread.
Location and Accessibility
Conveniently situated at 93-04A 37th Ave, Jackson Heights, NY 11372, Las Americas Bakery is exceptionally accessible for both locals and those traveling from other parts of the five boroughs. 37th Avenue is one of the primary commercial arteries of Jackson Heights, making the bakery a natural stop for commuters, shoppers, and students alike. The location is well-served by public transportation, which is the lifeline of the New York City experience.
For those using the subway, the bakery is within walking distance of the 90th St - Elmhurst Av station (7 train) and the Jackson Heights - Roosevelt Av station (7, E, F, M, R trains). This proximity to major transit hubs makes it an easy destination for a morning pastry before work or a weekend treat. The neighborhood is also highly walkable, with wide sidewalks and a vibrant street life that makes the trek to the bakery an enjoyable part of the day. While street parking in Queens can be competitive, there are various metered spots and garages in the vicinity for those who prefer to drive, though most locals find that the subway or a brisk walk is the most efficient way to arrive.

What is Worth Choosing
When visiting Las Americas Bakery, there are several items that have become legendary among the local community. If it is your first time visiting, or even if you are a regular looking to try something different, certain selections come highly recommended based on years of customer satisfaction.
The Bread: The foundation of any good bakery is its bread, and Las Americas does not disappoint. The bread here is described as "amazing," with a perfect balance of a crisp exterior and a soft, airy interior. Whether you are buying a loaf to take home for sandwiches or eating a roll plain, the quality of the dough and the baking process is evident in every bite. It is the kind of bread that doesn't need much accompaniment to be enjoyed.
Chorizo con Arepa: This is a standout savory option that many locals consider their "go-to" order. The chorizo is flavorful and well-seasoned, paired perfectly with a traditional corn arepa. This combination provides a hearty, satisfying snack or light meal that perfectly represents the savory side of Colombian street food and home cooking. It is a must-try for anyone looking for a protein-rich option that is both simple and delicious.
Hot Chocolate: To wash it all down, the hot chocolate is a fan favorite. Unlike the overly sweet, powdered mixes found in many cafes, the hot chocolate here is rich, creamy, and prepared with a traditional touch. It pairs beautifully with the bakery’s various breads, making for a classic Colombian breakfast or "onces" (afternoon tea). It is particularly comforting during the cold New York winters, providing a literal and figurative warmth that keeps people coming back.
Ultimately, the reason Las Americas Bakery has stood the test of time in the competitive New York food landscape is its commitment to the "simple and delicious." In a world of complex fusion and ever-changing food trends, there is something deeply rewarding about a place that focuses on the basics: good food, friendly people, and a sense of belonging. Whether you are stopping in for a quick chorizo con arepa or lingering over a cup of hot chocolate, you are participating in a local tradition that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Jackson Heights.

I love coming to this place, they don’t have much variety in the menu but what they have makes me feel when I used to get out of school and couldn’t wait to be at home because I wanted to see what moms cooked for us, I knew it was going to be something delicious, so this is how exactly I feel here, so simple so delicious and best part is the service, the ladies are always so friendly. 🫶🏻

Great bakery with delicious food and friendly staff. Every time I have eaten here, I’ve never had to wait longer than five minutes to order. The empanadas are tasty and always feel fresh. I really like the buñuelos, pandebonos and bread as well. There is always seating available too!

So I’ve been coming here for years and today I asked the lady if my son can use the restroom while I go to the store next door and come back to buy something . the lady was rude told me she doesn’t know me and he couldn’t use the bathroom until he eats or buys something. When I specifically told her I would come right back to buy something . Horrible customer service! Nasty cashiers ! I’m glad Gata Golosa opened up again just three blocks down . I will never come back here again!
