King Bakery Introduce
In a city as fast-paced and culinarily diverse as New York, finding a local spot that offers consistent quality and authentic flavor is like striking gold. For residents of Lower Manhattan and those who frequent the vibrant streets of Chinatown, King Bakery has established itself as an essential destination for traditional Chinese comfort food. While the city is filled with trendy, over-the-top dessert shops, King Bakery remains a steadfast purveyor of the classics, specializing in the art of the steamed bun. This is a place where the focus isn't on flashiness, but on the meticulous craft of dough and filling—a true neighborhood staple that serves as a "go-to" spot for many local New Yorkers.
King Bakery represents the heartbeat of the East Broadway corridor. It is the kind of establishment that locals rely on for their daily breakfast, a quick lunch, or a bulk haul to stock the freezer for the week. The atmosphere is professional yet friendly, embodying the hardworking spirit of the 10002 zip code. For anyone looking to experience the authentic taste of a Chinese bakery without the tourist traps, King Bakery offers a direct link to traditional Cantonese-style steaming techniques. It is a place where the steam rising from the kitchen signifies freshness and where the quality of the product speaks louder than any marketing campaign could. Whether you are a lifelong New Yorker or a visitor exploring the rich cultural tapestry of the Lower East Side, King Bakery provides a delicious and reliable experience that never disappoints.
Location and Accessibility
King Bakery is strategically located at 90 E Broadway, New York, NY 10002, USA. Situated in the southern portion of the Lower East Side, right where it blends into the historic fabric of Chinatown, the bakery is exceptionally easy to find. For locals navigating the neighborhood, it sits on a bustling stretch of East Broadway, surrounded by the unique shops and markets that define this part of Manhattan. Its location makes it a perfect stop for those who are commuting through the area or spending a day exploring nearby landmarks like the Manhattan Bridge or the Seward Park library.
Accessibility is a major advantage for this location. It is incredibly well-served by the New York City Subway system. The East Broadway station, serving the F train, is just a short walk away, making it a convenient detour for commuters heading home to Brooklyn or traveling uptown. Additionally, the Grand Street station (B and D trains) and the Canal Street hub are within walking distance, providing access from almost anywhere in the five boroughs. For those who prefer the bus, several local lines, including the M15 and M9, run frequently through the area. While street parking in this part of Manhattan is typically a challenge, the bakery's "grab and go" nature means it is perfectly suited for those on foot. The storefront is accessible and welcoming, fitting right into the sidewalk flow of one of the city’s most energetic neighborhoods.

Features / Highlights
What sets King Bakery apart from other establishments in the Chinatown area is its unwavering commitment to specific textures and flavors. Here are the highlights that make this bakery a standout choice for local foodies:
- Exceptional Bun Texture: The bakery is renowned for achieving the perfect balance in its steamed dough—soft and airy without being soggy or overcooked.
- Superior Vegetable Fillings: Unlike many spots where vegetable buns can be mushy, King Bakery maintains a slight, fresh crunch in their cabbage fillings, seasoned to perfection.
- Freezer-Friendly Products: A major highlight for locals is that these buns freeze exceptionally well, allowing customers to stock up and enjoy them throughout the month.
- Authentic Flavor Profiles: The seasonings used in both the pork and vegetable fillings are traditional and balanced, avoiding the overly sweet or bland profiles found elsewhere.
- High-Volume Reliability: The bakery is capable of handling massive orders—sometimes over 100 buns at a time—without a dip in quality.
- Home-Reheating Convenience: The products are designed to be easily steamed or heated at home, providing a high-quality breakfast or snack without having to leave the house.

- Address: 90 E Broadway, New York, NY 10002, USA
As is common with many high-traffic local bakeries in Chinatown, it is always a good idea to visit earlier in the day to ensure the widest selection of fresh buns, as popular items like the pork buns can sell out quickly due to their popularity with the local community.
What is Worth Choosing
If you are stepping into King Bakery for the first time, your first choice should undoubtedly be the Steamed Pork Buns. These are the gold standard of the shop—flavorful, succulent, and wrapped in a cloud-like dough that absorbs just the right amount of savory juice from the filling. They are so well-regarded that they have a reputation extending far beyond New York; it is not uncommon for patrons to buy them by the dozen to transport across the country. They are the quintessential comfort food, whether eaten warm on the street or reheated for a late-night snack.
For those who prefer a meat-free option, the Steamed Vegetable Buns are an absolute must-try and are arguably the best in the neighborhood. The filling is primarily composed of cabbage, but it is the preparation that makes it special. The cabbage retains a slight crunch, providing a satisfying texture that contrasts beautifully with the soft steamed bun. The seasoning is precise—savory and satisfying without being overpowering. These buns are a testament to the bakery's skill; making a vegetable bun that isn't soggy is a difficult feat, and King Bakery gets it right every time.
Finally, for the savvy New Yorker looking to save time and money, it is highly recommended to "stock up." Both the pork and vegetable buns are famous for how well they maintain their integrity when frozen. Grab a large bag, keep them in your freezer, and simply steam them for a few minutes in the morning. You’ll have a professional-grade Chinatown breakfast ready in minutes without ever having to walk out of your apartment. Whether you are looking for a quick bite on East Broadway or a reliable staple for your home kitchen, King Bakery is the authentic choice that delivers every time. This Chinese bakery which specializes in steamed buns is truly my go-to spot, a place that never disappoints. Every visit, I always stock up on two favorites: the steamed pork buns and the steamed vegetable buns. Both are delicious and freeze exceptionally well, which is always a plus. It’s difficult to find a good steamed vegetable bun that isn’t soggy or overcooked, but this bakery gets it right every time. The filling is primarily cabbage, but the seasoning is perfect and the cabbage still has that slight crunch. And the pork buns? They’re so good, one friend even ordered over 100 buns and had me bring them down to Texas on my next visit. If you love authentic, well-made steamed buns, this is the place. Highly recommend!

Meat buns are amazing. The place is uum like not great to look at but just sit on a plastic chair and bite into a bun and all will be well.

Hole in the wall but the steamed meaty buns are amazing, and it's $1.25 for a giant one or $5 for 12 frozen ones. Be careful, they don't speak Cantonese and sometimes not Mandarin. If you want the meaty buns, they're usually to the right. Just point. Otherwise, they'll try to give you the not-as-good veggie ones.
