Mr. Bear Introduce
Nestled in the bustling heart of Downtown Flushing, Mr. Bear has emerged as a quintessential destination for lovers of delicate Asian-style desserts. Located on Prince Street, this cozy boutique bakery has carved out a niche by specializing in the art of the Japanese cotton cheesecake—a dessert renowned for its ethereal, cloud-like texture that differs significantly from its dense, rich American counterpart. In a neighborhood celebrated for its immense culinary diversity, Mr. Bear stands out by offering a refined, focused menu that balances traditional techniques with creative, modern flavor profiles. For New Yorkers seeking a treat that is sophisticated yet comforting, this "hidden gem" provides a sensory experience that is both light on the palate and visually delightful.
The charm of Mr. Bear lies in its "small shop" intimacy. Unlike large-scale commercial bakeries, it maintains a boutique feel where the focus remains strictly on quality and craftsmanship. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, often described by local patrons as a "cute and cozy spot" that serves as a perfect respite from the energetic streets of Queens. Whether you are stopping in for a quick afternoon pick-me-up or looking for a unique dessert to bring to a small gathering, the shop’s aesthetic and friendly service make every visit feel personal. It is a place that invites curiosity, encouraging visitors to explore its rotating selection of "lava" cakes and artisanal beverages that are designed to complement the subtle sweetness of their signature bakes.
Location and Accessibility
Mr. Bear is located at 39-16 Prince St, Flushing, NY 11354, USA. Prince Street is one of the most vibrant corridors in Downtown Flushing, known for its high concentration of top-tier Asian eateries and boutique shops. Its location is exceptionally central, making it an easy addition to any culinary tour of the neighborhood. Being situated in the 11354 zip code means the bakery is at the epicenter of one of New York City’s most significant transit hubs, ensuring that it is reachable for residents and visitors from across the five boroughs.
For those utilizing public transportation, the bakery is just a few minutes’ walk from the Main Street-Flushing subway station, the terminus of the 7 train. This provides a direct link to Manhattan, making the trip from Grand Central or Times Square straightforward and efficient. Additionally, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Port Washington branch stops nearby at the Flushing-Main Street station, offering a quick commute for those coming from Long Island or Northeast Queens. Dozens of local and express bus lines also converge in this area. While street parking on Prince Street is famously competitive, several multi-level parking garages are located within a two-block radius, providing a reliable option for those traveling by car. The storefront’s street-level entrance ensures that it is easily accessible for all, including those exploring the neighborhood on foot.

What is worth choosing
For a first-time visitor to Mr. Bear, the Classic Original Cotton Cheesecake is an essential starting point. It serves as the benchmark for the bakery's skill, showcasing a texture that is deceptively light and remarkably moist despite its airy appearance. It is the perfect choice for those who appreciate the pure, clean flavor of high-quality cheese and eggs. However, for those looking for something truly unique to the Flushing dessert scene, the Crazy Taro Paste Cheesecake is the standout choice. This cake offers a fascinating interplay between the sweet, creamy taro and the savory pork floss on top—a combination that might surprise the uninitiated but is a beloved staple for local connoisseurs of Asian bakery traditions.
In addition to the solid cakes, the "Lava" series—particularly the Chocolate Lava or Ube Lava—is highly recommended for those who want a more decadent, interactive dessert. These cakes maintain the signature fluffy exterior but hide a rich, flowing core that elevates the experience. To complete your visit, choosing a beverage from their tea menu is a wise move. The Osmanthus Oolong or a fresh Fruit Tea provides a crisp, floral acidity that perfectly cleanses the palate between bites of cheesecake. Whether you are obsessed with ube or a purist for the original fluffy bake, choosing Mr. Bear ensures you are tasting some of the most specialized and high-quality Japanese-style cheesecakes in New York City. For the best experience, stop by in the afternoon when the bakes are at their freshest and the full variety of lava options is typically available.
In conclusion, Mr. Bear is a testament to the specialized excellence that makes Flushing a world-class food destination. By mastering the delicate balance of the cotton cheesecake and pairing it with a creative beverage program, this Prince Street shop has become a vital part of the local community. For any New Yorker looking to deviate from the standard bakery path, a trip to see "the bear" is a deliciously rewarding decision.

Mr. Bear is a small shop where you can buy fruit tea, milk tea, desserts, and cotton cheesecake. The cotton cheesecakes comes in various flavors and are priced accordingly. The cotton cheesecakes are not large, so it is perfect for small groups/parties. The Classic Original Cotton Cheesecake is light and fluffy. It may look dry, but it is not. There is a mild sweetness, although some may still find it very sweet. The Crazy Taro Paste Cheesecake is an interesting and unique combo. The sweet taro cake and filling provides a strong contrast to the salty, dried pork floss on top, creating a salty and sweet sensation. It was much better than I thought! Will return to try the Chocolate Lava Cheesecake and the Strawberry Love Cotton Cheesecake.

Such a hidden gem in Flushing! I’m obsessed with their cotton cheesecakes. They’re nothing like regular cheesecake. These are soft, cloud-like, and melt in your mouth. My personal favorites are the original and ube flavors, and I also love how they turn those same bases into lava cakes too! They also have a nice variety of drinks like boba tea, fruit tea, and milk tea. It’s such a cute and cozy spot. Their cheesecake is hands down my favorite in NYC, light, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweetness. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something different and delicious!

On our way to Cheli we passed by this cutesy japanese cheesecake place. Omg i love cheesecake 🍰and the plushy🐻bear theme. I bought the pork floss mini, creme brulee and ube cheesecake, they look appetizing and souffle😋The packaging looks elegant too identical to hermes signature orange paperbags🧡😁 The staffs were amazing and gave us the red envelopes with random prizes. I was so happy to get the bag with bear❤️🧸 kudos👍🏻to the very nice guy there. I will definitely come back when we visit flushing again and hope to try the strawberry heart cheesecake.

Mr. Bear is an absolute gem! The Japanese fluffy cheesecake is light, airy, and melts in your mouth it’s easily the best I’ve ever had. Their milk tea is perfectly brewed, smooth, and refreshing, making it the perfect match for the cake. On top of the amazing desserts, the staff are always so kind and welcoming, and the shop itself has such a cozy, inviting atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back again and again. If you’re looking for delicious treats and great service, this is the spot!

Since it is, “spooky season,” the store is decorated with ghosts, bats and bears; very cute very demure. I tried the peach iced tea and the original cotton mini cake. The cake was very fluffy, very moist. It tasted sooo good! The peach iced tea wasn’t too sweet either which was a good balance with the cake. I like the aesthetic of the to go bag. Definitely recommend!!
