Pomme Palais Introduce
In the heart of Midtown East, where the architectural grandeur of New York City meets the refined elegance of European tradition, lies Pomme Palais. Situated within the legendary Lotte New York Palace hotel, this bakery and café is often described as a "jewel box" pastry shop, seemingly plucked from a chic Parisian street corner and nestled into the vibrant energy of Manhattan. For local New Yorkers and those navigating the busy corridors of 51st Street, Pomme Palais offers a sophisticated escape that balances the high standards of a five-star hotel with the accessible charm of a neighborhood patisserie. It is a place where the morning rush is met with the scent of fresh butter and expertly pulled espresso, providing a golden start to the day in one of the city's most iconic settings.
The name itself—a playful nod to both the "Big Apple" (Pomme) and its prestigious home (Palais)—sets the stage for a culinary experience that is both whimsical and deeply rooted in quality. Originally envisioned by the late James Beard Award-winning Chef Michel Richard, the bakery continues to uphold a legacy of French culinary excellence. For the local community, Pomme Palais serves as a versatile hub; it is as much a destination for a focused morning meeting over lattes as it is a quiet refuge for an afternoon snack. While the surrounding area of Madison and Park Avenues is known for its fast-paced corporate life, the bakery encourages a momentary pause, inviting guests to appreciate the artistry of a perfectly laminated croissant or a delicate macaron.
Location and Accessibility
Pomme Palais is located at 30 E 51st St, New York, NY 10022, integrated into the North Wing of the Lotte New York Palace. This prime Midtown East location makes it exceptionally accessible for those living or working in the region. It is situated just a block away from St. Patrick’s Cathedral and a short stroll from Rockefeller Center, making it a central point for anyone traversing the East Side. For commuters, the accessibility is excellent; the bakery is within easy walking distance of several major subway lines, including the 6 train at 51st Street and the E and M trains at Lexington Avenue-53rd Street.
One of the unique features of this location is its dual accessibility. Patrons can enter through the hotel’s dramatic courtyard—a stunning Renaissance-style space that offers a rare sense of tranquility in Manhattan—or via the street-level entrance on 51st Street. For locals who prefer a more scenic experience, grabbing a coffee and taking it to the courtyard seating is a highly recommended "insider" move. The shop itself is designed to handle a steady stream of customers, and while it can become quite hectic during the peak morning hours of 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, the professional staff and efficient layout ensure a smooth experience for those on their way to nearby offices or the Lexington Avenue transit hubs.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Pomme Palais, the coffee is frequently cited as a standout feature. Whether you prefer a simple drip or a more complex espresso drink, the quality is consistently high, making it a reliable destination for serious coffee drinkers in Midtown. To accompany your drink, the signature "Lemon Egg-ceptional" cake is a must-try for those who enjoy a blend of tart and sweet; it is a visually stunning dessert that encapsulates the "whimsical" nature of the shop. If you are in the mood for something traditional, their croissants are noted for their high-quality butter and airy texture, though locals often suggest arriving early to ensure the widest selection before the morning rush thins the displays.
For a savory option, the Croque Monsieur is a classic choice that provides a satisfying, warm lunch in a flash. However, perhaps the most valuable "choice" at Pomme Palais isn't just an item on the menu, but the experience of the location itself. Choosing to take your order into the courtyard allows you to enjoy the architectural splendor of the Villard Mansion while you eat. This transforms a simple coffee break into a quintessentially New York experience. Additionally, if you are looking for a gift or a treat for later, their packaged raspberry pistachio tuiles are highly recommended—they are light, flavorful, and reflect the artisanal care that goes into every product at this landmark bakery.

Coffee is excellent, and the place is cute but gets very hectic in the morning, and pastries are just ok. You can get a cup of coffee and sit in the courtyard for a lovely experience. They also sell some packed cookies and nuts if you are looking for edible souvenirs or just want to grab something for later.

All of our orders came on/in paper plates and cups, but that was ok. The staffs were nice and polite. The place was very clean, and while our visit, I saw one staff coming out from behind the counter to clean out the trash and such. We had a nice afternoon snack here, high quality and tasty. I am glad we discovered another dessert place in the city!

Nice décor- colorful, well lit, cheery. It was packed when we went but the busy atmosphere gave it a vibrant, living feel. The baked goods left something to be desired though-in my opinion, too pricey for taste and quality. Tried the eclairs and chocolate tart and coffee. Maybe the savories are better.

Not the best way to pack cupcakes people! If you're asking customers to pay close to $8.00 for a cupcake, you should invest in some boxes, and teach your staff how to package your items better! The staff was also in their own world, not friendly at all.

Love this dessert place and came here for desserts on a Friday. Chocolate mousse and Strawberry mousse were out of this world. Such a treat to the eyes and palette. Went really well with coffee.
