What sets Pop's Bagels apart in the competitive Nolita food scene is its commitment to quality and a deeply personal touch. It is not uncommon for patrons to be greeted by the owner, who often shares stories of the building’s history or the neighborhood’s evolution, making even a quick breakfast run feel like a visit with an old friend. This sense of "Old New York" hospitality, combined with a menu that caters to contemporary tastes, makes Pop's a standout. From the vibrant energy of the staff to the free samples that often make their way to the counter, the shop prioritizes a welcoming atmosphere that balances the professional speed required of a Manhattan establishment with the warmth of a family-run business.

What is worth choosing at Pop's Bagels? If you are looking for the absolute gold standard of their menu, the "Meat, Egg, and Cheese" sandwich is a local favorite that consistently hits the mark. For something uniquely "Nolita," "The Nolita" sandwich—packed with turkey, bacon, avocado, and garlic mayo—offers a California-meets-New York flavor profile that is both hearty and refreshing. If you prefer the classics, their "Old Jewish Man" sandwich provides a traditional lox experience with capers, onions, and your choice of cream cheese on a perfectly seasoned bagel.
For those who value simplicity, the "Egg Everything" bagel is a masterclass in seasoning. While New York has many "hot out of the oven" spots, Pop's is praised for the generous amount of seasoning and the satisfying "chew" of their bagels, which hold up well even when ordered later in the morning. To wash it all down, the fresh-squeezed orange juice is a non-negotiable addition to any order; many regulars claim it is the freshest in the city. If you are in the mood for something sweet, their French Toast or Blueberry bagels provide a subtle hint of sugar that pairs perfectly with a plain or strawberry schmear. Whether you're stopping in for a $2.50 plain bagel to test the quality or splurging on a $20+ signature sandwich, Pop's Bagels ensures that every bite is a true reflection of New York's culinary spirit.
Ultimately, a visit to Pop's Bagels at 55 E Houston St is about more than just food; it is about participating in a daily New York ritual. The combination of efficient service, high-quality ingredients, and a touch of neighborly charm makes it a vital part of the Nolita community. It’s the kind of place where you come for the bagel, but you stay for the vibes and the genuine connections that make NYC feel like a smaller, friendlier town.

⸻ We had the BEST New York bagel experience at Pop’s Bagels today! 🥯🗽 As we were placing our order, the owner literally walked in, started talking with us, took a picture, and told us the history of the building like we were old friends. That kind of hospitality is rare and it made our day. Fast service, super friendly staff, free samples, and the freshest squeezed orange juice I’ve ever had. You can tell this place has been successful for years because they truly care about people and quality. If you’re in NYC, this is a MUST stop. Great bagels, great vibes, and an owner who makes you feel like family ❤️ #NYC #BagelHeaven #PopsBagels #MakingMemories

01/02/2026 Came in around 9:30 and grabbed an egg everything untoasted with nothing on it. This is the ultimate test for any bagel shop, and the only thing I care about. Pop’s’ bagel was okay. It was definitely a few hours old, this is NOT a fresh bagels throughout the day type of spot. I’d give the bagel itself a 3/5. Better than a bodega, with good chew and plentiful seasoning. Nothing like a hot utopia bagel. I’m sure they have good sandwiches and other stuff, but I don’t care about that. I believe it was $2 or $2.50 for just the bagel. I’ll come back if it’s early morning and they’re still hot, or to try a sandwich or something. Staff was nice too.

You go to NYC, you want to eat at as many places as possible. In a week long trip, the only place we visited more than once was Pops Bagels. Not only are the bagels tremendous, the atmosphere is friendly and fast. Pop’s Bagels (specifically, the bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel) is comfort food in a comfortable setting. And you can even meet Pop himself since he seems to always be around! Oh, and get the fresh squeezed OJ. Reasonably priced, delicious, fast, and friendly. What more could you ask for?

Solid bagel shop making bagels exactly how you'd want them in the city. They even have a couple different tofu schmears, which makes me extra happy. Last I was in, they were blasting 80s RnB, which is *chefs kiss* Extra points if Pops is on premise, chilling in the back nook.

I’m very disappointed with my experience at Pops. I came in around 3pm on a Sunday and ordered two small vanilla lattes and a toasted croissant with butter, a simple order since they were closing soon. My total was about $17 before tip. When I left, my croissant was burnt, not buttered, and not even cut. I went back to ask for it to be fixed. The barista, Hailey, told the cook, who seemed irritated and mumbled under his breath. The replacement croissant was cut this time, but still had no butter. I had to remind him again that all I asked for was a toasted croissant with butter. On top of that, both lattes were lukewarm and had no sweetness or noticeable vanilla flavor. Overall, the visit felt like a waste of money and I won’t be returning.
