PopUp Bagels Introduce
For decades, the New York bagel has been defined by a specific set of rules: boiled, baked, sliced, and toasted. However, a new culinary phenomenon has taken the New York region by storm, challenging the traditional deli counter experience while honoring the soul of the city's favorite bread. PopUp Bagels, located in the vibrant Upper West Side, has redefined the morning routine for locals with a unique, clever, and seriously delicious approach to the craft. By focusing on a "tear and dip" philosophy, this establishment has moved away from the standard sandwich format to prioritize what truly matters to a New York purist: the heat, the crust, and the fluff of a fresh-from-the-oven bagel. From the perspective of a local user, PopUp Bagels isn't just a shop; it is a destination that captures the excitement of Manhattan's ever-evolving food scene.
The atmosphere at the 338 Columbus Avenue location is electric and modern, reflecting the brand's rapid rise to fame. While many traditional shops lean into a vintage aesthetic, PopUp Bagels embraces a trendy, high-energy vibe where the staff clearly know what they are doing and have fun doing it. It is the kind of place where the line moves with impressive speed, driven by a team that remains kind and helpful even during peak hours. For those living in the 10023 zip code or commuting through the Upper West Side, the shop offers a refreshing break from the ordinary. Whether you are a skeptic of viral food trends or a lifelong bagel aficionado, the moment you are handed a bag of steaming hot bagels, it becomes clear why this spot has earned a perfect 10/10 rating from the local community.
Location and Accessibility
PopUp Bagels is perfectly situated at 338 Columbus Ave, New York, NY 10023, USA. This prime location places the shop in one of Manhattan’s most sought-after neighborhoods, the Upper West Side, specifically on the corner of West 76th Street. Its proximity to the American Museum of Natural History and Central Park makes it an ideal stop for residents enjoying a morning walk or families planning a picnic in the park. For locals, the shop acts as a culinary anchor in a district known for its sophisticated tastes and historic charm.
Accessibility is a major highlight for this location. It is well-served by the New York City subway system, with the 81st St - Museum of Natural History (A, B, C lines) and the 79th St (1 line) stations just a few blocks away. For those utilizing bus transit, the M7 and M11 routes run directly along Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues, providing easy door-to-door access. What is worth choosing
When you visit PopUp Bagels, the decision-making process is simplified by the sheer quality of the limited options, but a few items are particularly worth choosing for the quintessential experience. The salt bagel is a standout favorite among regulars, offering a savory punch that perfectly complements the rich cream cheese. If you prefer a more complex flavor profile, the everything and sesame bagels are equally impressive and are considered "must-tries" for anyone new to the shop. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, as the foundation of every choice is a perfectly baked, steaming hot bagel.
The "tear and dip" style is the soul of the experience, and to do it right, you must choose the right schmear. The scallion cream cheese is a classic for a reason—it is creamy, fresh, and provides the traditional New York tang that locals crave. For those who are feeling more adventurous, the truffle schmear is highly recommended as a gourmet alternative that elevates the humble bagel to a luxury treat. While some might be skeptical of the non-sandwich format, locals urge you to "dare to try" it; the combination of the crunchy crust and the light, fluffy interior dipped directly into high-quality cream cheese is often described as the best bagel experience one can have in the city. Whether you are looking for a quick breakfast on the go or a cozy refuge from the cold, choosing PopUp Bagels on Columbus Avenue is a 10/10 decision that you won't regret.
In summary, PopUp Bagels at 338 Columbus Avenue has successfully captured the hearts of New Yorkers by focusing on the fundamentals of great baking while introducing a modern twist. By delivering hot, fresh, and incredibly textured bagels paired with superior schmears, they have created a destination that is both a local staple and a city-wide sensation. We invite you to head to the Upper West Side, join the fast-moving line, and experience the "tear and dip" revolution for yourself.

Pop-Up Bagels 10/10! • A unique, clever, and seriously delicious bagel experience. • The salt bagel was my favorite, but the everything and sesame were just as good—you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. • Hot, buttery, soft bagels perfectly paired with creamy, flavorful schmear (scallion for me 🤍). • Staff were kind, helpful, and impressively fast despite the lines. • A definite must-try!

Dare I say the best bagel I’ve ever had🥯 Service: 10/10🌟 staff know what they’re doing, and have fun doing it! Food: 10/10🌟 I was skeptical about the “tear and dip” style bagel, but after trying I need to go back. I got the everything bagel and would recommend it to anyone. Perfectly crunchy and toasty outside, with a light and fluffy center. The salt bagel is also great! Don’t forget their cream cheese. The scallion is a classic, and truffle is great for adventurous eaters. Atmosphere: 10/10🌟 limited seating inside, but it’s a great refuge from the cold. We were lucky enough to have no wait, but I’m sure this place will get busier as the season continues. TLDR - you have to try

Hands down the best bagels we had while in NYC. There is something about the crunchy outside and steamy hot inside of a bagel that is dipped in cream cheese. Not a lot of pics on this visit. Great service and very good bagels

Best bagels. Freshly made. Busy storefront. Not in love with how you’re forced to buy three. They give a good serving of cream cheeses. Interesting method of eating these bagels. I respect it.

The fresh out of oven bagels are out of this world!! So incredibly delicious. Obsessed with the truffle cream cheese. Usually a sesame bagel for me but their everything bagel is incredible!! Not much room to eat the bagels tho.
