What is worth choosing
If you are visiting William Greenberg Desserts for the first time, or even if you are a returning regular, there are several items that simply cannot be missed. Topping the list is, naturally, the legendary black and white cookie. Unlike the dry, mass-produced versions found in many corner delis, the version here is a revelation. It features a soft, fluffy, citrus-hinted cake base topped with a perfect split of homemade vanilla and chocolate frosting. The texture is often described as "pillowy," and the frosting has a richness that balances the sweetness perfectly. It is a true New York rite of passage to enjoy one of these cookies fresh from the counter.
For those who want something a bit more substantial, the seven-layer cake is an absolute must-try. This cake is an "insane" experience for chocolate lovers, featuring thin layers of moist cake separated by thick, luscious chocolate frosting that customers rave about. It is the type of dessert that makes a lasting impression and keeps people coming back decade after decade. Additionally, the sticky buns, specifically the "Schengen," offer a wonderful alternative for those who prefer something with a bit of a caramel-like chew and a nutty finish. Whether you are craving a small snack or a centerpiece for a family gathering, choosing the classics at William Greenberg Desserts is a guaranteed way to experience the very best of New York’s baking traditions. Every bite reflects the care and heritage that has made this bakery a beloved institution for nearly a century.

We had to stop in to try the iconic black and white cookie! It was delicious. There are obviously many other options here but we went with the classic. Staff were friendly, place was clean. The other treats looked delicious as well. Thanks for the quick treat!

Pregnant and woke up craving the best black-and-white in NYC. Hightailed it here. No wonder it’s an institution. Perfect black-and-white with their soft, fluffy cake and homemade vanilla and chocolate frosting. Their seven-layer cake is also insane! Pillowy cake with what tastes like their thick chocolate frosting, couldn’t get enough of this one. ALS enjoyed the sticky bun (the Schengen), but the black-and-white and seven-layer slices are a must. Can’t wait to come back. 5 stars!!!!

This mini-chain seems to have the best reputation for black and white cookies in NYC, and after having them, I think I can see why What I liked is they have both large and mini options for their cookies. I went with the mini one, and it felt like the perfect size to be a solid option that wasn't excessive The cookie itself was very good. It was really soft, without being chewy at all. It's actually less of a traditional 'cookie', and more of a pastry, where there's not meant to be any crunch. All of the outside was baked pretty much the perfect amount I also thought the frosting was excellent. The vanilla was better, but the chocolate was pretty nice as well. Overall, I obviously haven't tried all the black & white cookies in the city, but this feels like the best place to get them. 8.5/10

Stopped by because the kids were craving something sweet. Everything tasted super fresh and really good...they nailed it! The pies looked amazing, so that’s on my list for next time.

Went on a Sunday afternoon to buy Hamantaschen for Purim. They don't have the flavors labeled so the service person was extremely hostile and annoyed then I asked which flavors they have. If they're going to get annoyed about it then why don't they just post the flavors? Also, and much, much worse, the hamentaschen were absolutely terrible, massively stale and clearly made a few days before. The fillings were completely glue/gummy and stuck together and as far from fresh as it was possible to be. Yeccchhh.
