Sunday Morning

11 W 25th St, New York, NY 10010, USA

4.0
Sunday Morning has opened a third location in Nomad on Sunday. I came here as I had wanted to try their cinnamon rolls. After choosing the plain glazed one, I also got a cappuccino and sat down. This cinnamon roll is delicious because it isn’t sickly sweet like in other bakeries. Diego, the store manager, explained that the owners honed the recipe to cut out the excess sugar. I ate joyfully as each bite was ambrosial. For me the coffee was superfluous as this was perfect on its own. Maybe with the other flavors coffee would have been fine. The interior of Sunday Morning is large with the kitchen in the back. The pastry cooks were busy glazing sheet pans filled with the rolls. Seating is also available and a gender neutral restroom is also here. Vlada helped customers and placed them in boxes and Jay, the barista, prepared the coffees. I am hoping that on a weekday there won’t be a queue like today when I breezed in but on the weekends it may get busy. For now, run to have the tastiest cinnamon roll in the Big Apple! - Sabena Singh

Sunday Morning Introduce

In the fast-paced heart of Manhattan, finding a moment of calm—and a truly exceptional pastry—can feel like a rare victory. Enter Sunday Morning, a specialized bakery that has recently expanded its presence in the iconic NoMad neighborhood. While New York City is certainly no stranger to bakeries, Sunday Morning distinguishes itself by focusing on a singular, beloved comfort food: the cinnamon roll. This third location brings a spacious, welcoming atmosphere to West 25th Street, offering locals and visitors alike a refined take on a classic treat that often suffers from being overly sugary. At Sunday Morning, the philosophy is centered on balance, quality, and the art of the glaze.

The arrival of Sunday Morning in the NoMad district marks a significant addition to the area's culinary landscape. Unlike many grab-and-go kiosks found throughout the city, this establishment invites customers to linger. The interior is notably large, providing a window into the craft of baking. Visitors can watch the dedicated pastry team at work in the back kitchen, where sheet pans of fresh rolls are meticulously glazed and prepared for the counter. This transparency not only ensures freshness but adds an artisanal charm to the experience, making it feel less like a commercial transaction and more like a visit to a neighbor’s kitchen—if that neighbor happened to be a world-class pastry chef.

Location and Accessibility

Sunday Morning is strategically located at 11 West 25th Street, New York, NY 10010. Situated between the bustling corridors of Broadway and 6th Avenue, it is exceptionally accessible for those working in the Flatiron District or exploring the NoMad area. The bakery is just a short walk from Madison Square Park, making it a perfect stop for a morning treat before a stroll or an afternoon pick-me-up during a busy workday. The storefront is easy to find and welcomes patrons into a bright, airy space that contrasts beautifully with the concrete rhythm of the city outside. For those relying on public transportation, the nearby 23rd Street and 28th Street subway stations provide easy access via several major lines.

If you are planning a visit during the weekend, it is recommended to arrive early, as the popularity of their signature rolls can lead to queues. During the weekdays, the flow is typically more consistent, allowing for a quicker experience for those on their lunch break or morning commute.

What is Worth Choosing

When visiting Sunday Morning, the absolute "must-try" is their Plain Glazed Cinnamon Roll. It serves as the benchmark for their entire philosophy. While most bakeries rely on a heavy mantle of sugar to provide flavor, Sunday Morning has honed their recipe to cut out excess sweetness. The result is what many locals describe as "ambrosial"—a soft, pillowy dough that feels light rather than heavy, even after a few bites. The glaze is balanced perfectly against the warmth of the cinnamon, making it a rare treat that doesn't leave you with a sugar crash afterward.

For those looking to explore more adventurous flavors, the bakery offers an impressive rotating selection. The Strawberry Earl Grey roll is a frequent favorite, blending the floral notes of tea with the bright acidity of fruit. If you prefer something richer, the Caramel Pecan provides a satisfying crunch and deep, toasted notes. For fans of the classic tangy finish, the Cream Cheese Frosted roll remains a top contender, while the Blueberry Lemon offers a refreshing, citrusy twist on the traditional pastry. While the coffee is expertly prepared by baristas like Jay, many regulars find that the rolls are so flavorful and perfectly textured that they can be enjoyed entirely on their own.

Ultimately, Sunday Morning represents a new wave of New York bakeries that prioritize quality of ingredients and balance of flavor over sheer decadence. Whether you are a connoisseur of cinnamon rolls or simply looking for a high-quality pastry in NoMad, this establishment provides a sophisticated yet cozy environment to satisfy your cravings. The combination of the open kitchen, the friendly service from staff like Vlada and Diego, and the uniquely light recipe makes it a standout destination in the Big Apple's competitive food scene. If you find yourself near 25th Street, do not miss the opportunity to grab a box of these rolls—your taste buds will thank you for the refined experience.
