I love this place :’) I always come for their Japanese buns - so many savory and sweet options! Great spot to pick up lunch for the day in FiDi - Beef curry yaki ($3.5): 9/10, the filling is flavorful, and the bread is really soft - Matcha red bean crepe ($6.5): 9/10, really creamy and light. Could tell the matcha was good quality. Not too sweet. Wish there was more red bean - Mei Deng

Takahachi Bakery Introduce

In the bustling landscape of Lower Manhattan, where the fast-paced energy of the Financial District meets the refined charm of Tribeca, Takahachi Bakery stands as a unique culinary destination. This local gem has carved out a significant niche for itself by offering an authentic taste of Japanese-style baking right in the heart of New York City. For residents and professionals navigating the busy streets of downtown, this bakery provides a serene yet vibrant atmosphere where traditional Japanese techniques meet contemporary urban tastes. The essence of the establishment is rooted in craftsmanship, with a dedicated team of pastry chefs visible in the back, ensuring that every item on the shelf is a product of meticulous labor and fresh ingredients.

The appeal of Takahachi Bakery lies in its ability to offer something distinct from the typical New York patisserie. While the city is famous for its bagels and cheesecakes, this Murray Street staple introduces locals to the soft textures and delicate flavors of Japanese "pan" (bread). From the moment you step inside, the aroma of freshly baked yeast rolls and high-quality matcha fills the air, creating an inviting sanctuary for anyone looking to escape the concrete jungle. Whether you are a long-time resident of the 10007 zip code or a visitor exploring the historic landmarks nearby, the bakery serves as a vital community hub that celebrates the art of fusion baking.

Location and Accessibility

Conveniently situated at 25 Murray St, New York, NY 10007, Takahachi Bakery occupies a prime piece of real estate that makes it easily accessible to several major neighborhoods. Its location is a bridge between the Financial District (FiDi) and Tribeca, making it a preferred stop for office workers seeking a high-quality lunch and locals looking for a weekend treat. Because it is positioned near major transit hubs like City Hall and the World Trade Center, New Yorkers from all five boroughs can easily reach the bakery via a variety of subway lines, including the R, W, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, A, and C trains.

The storefront is designed to be welcoming and efficient. For those working in the nearby skyscrapers, the bakery offers a quick turnaround for morning coffee runs or midday meal pickups. Despite its popularity, the layout accommodates a steady flow of customers, though it is a well-known local secret that arriving early is essential, particularly on weekends. The surrounding area is pedestrian-friendly, allowing patrons to grab a pastry and enjoy a stroll through the nearby City Hall Park or the Hudson River Waterfront, further cementing its status as a quintessential New York City experience.

What is Worth Choosing

Navigating the glass display cases at Takahachi Bakery can be a delightful challenge due to the sheer variety of options. However, based on local popularity and the quality of ingredients, there are several standout items that are highly recommended for first-time visitors and regulars alike. The Beef Curry Yaki is perhaps the most iconic savory choice. Priced around $3.5, it features a flavorful, well-spiced curry filling encased in incredibly soft bread, making it an ideal savory snack or a light lunch component. The balance of the savory filling against the slightly sweet, pillowy dough is a hallmark of the bakery's skill.

For those with a sweet tooth or a preference for traditional Japanese flavors, the Matcha Red Bean Crepe is a must-try. At approximately $6.5, this item is praised for its light and creamy texture. The quality of the matcha is evident in its vibrant color and earthy notes, which are perfectly complemented by the sweetness of the red bean. It is a sophisticated dessert that avoids the heavy sugar content found in many Western sweets, appealing to those who appreciate a more nuanced flavor profile. Additionally, the various Japanese buns, ranging from melon pan to custard-filled delights, are consistently fresh and represent excellent value. To get the best selection of these items, it is highly recommended to visit early in the morning, especially on Saturdays and Sundays, as the most popular buns tend to sell out quickly due to high demand from the local community.

Ultimately, Takahachi Bakery is more than just a place to buy bread; it is a testament to the cultural diversity of New York City's food scene. By maintaining high standards of production and staying true to Japanese baking traditions, it offers a slice of Tokyo in the heart of Manhattan. Whether you are stopping in for a quick caffeine fix or exploring the vast world of Japanese pastries, this Murray Street institution provides a high-quality, flavorful experience that keeps New Yorkers coming back day after day.
