The Donut Pub Introduce
For New Yorkers, some things are simply non-negotiable, and a late-night or early-morning trip to a reliable donut shop is one of them. In a city that is constantly reinventing itself, The Donut Pub stands as a testament to the enduring power of tradition. Established in 1964, this Chelsea staple has managed to survive and thrive amidst the shifting tides of Manhattan’s culinary trends. It isn't just a place to grab a quick sugar fix; it is a cultural touchstone for the neighborhood. Whether you are a local resident who has been visiting for decades or a commuter passing through the busy 14th Street corridor, the sight of its classic signage and the warm glow of its retro interior offers a sense of comfort that few other places can match.
The Donut Pub captures the quintessential "old-school" New York vibe that is increasingly hard to find. It operates with a professional yet neighborly efficiency that caters to the fast-paced energy of the city while maintaining the charm of a bygone era. For those who live in Chelsea, the West Village, or the Meatpacking District, it serves as a reliable anchor—a place where the quality of the bake is consistent, and the atmosphere is always welcoming. The shop manages to balance the nostalgic appeal of a 1960s diner with the modern demand for high-quality, inventive pastries, making it a destination that appeals to every generation of New Yorker. It is a place where a construction worker, a corporate executive, and a student can all find common ground at the counter, united by the simple pleasure of a fresh, handmade donut.
Location and Accessibility
Located at 203 W 14th St, New York, NY 10011, USA, The Donut Pub occupies a prime piece of real estate at the crossroads of some of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods. Its position on West 14th Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues, makes it exceptionally accessible for local users. For those navigating the city via the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the shop is a dream come true. It is situated just steps away from the 14th St / 7th Ave subway station (1, 2, 3 lines) and the 14th St / 8th Ave station (A, C, E, and L lines). This level of transit connectivity ensures that regardless of where you are coming from in the five boroughs, a stop at The Donut Pub is never out of the way.
The accessibility also extends to those who prefer traveling on the surface. Several major bus lines, including the M14 Select Bus Service, run directly along the 14th Street corridor, dropping passengers off mere feet from the entrance. For local residents in Chelsea or the West Village, the shop is a staple of the daily walk, easily reachable for those taking a stroll through the neighborhood or heading toward the High Line. While the shop is a high-traffic destination, its long-standing presence on the block has made it a familiar landmark that is easy to navigate even during the busiest peak hours. It is the kind of place that fits perfectly into the natural flow of a New York day, whether you are starting your morning or ending your night.

What is worth choosing
If you are stepping into The Donut Pub for the first time—or the hundredth—the sheer variety in the display case can be beautifully overwhelming. However, for a true New York experience, the "Cronut" is non-negotiable. While the hybrid pastry has become a city-wide phenomenon, The Donut Pub’s version is a local favorite because they do it "right." They are buttery and flaky with just the right amount of sweetness, often featuring fillings that are rich but not cloying. For many regulars, getting a cronut has become a ritual; it is the gold standard of what a hybrid pastry should be. If you prefer something more traditional, the glazed donuts are highly recommended for their perfect "exterior crunch" and airy interior.
For those who enjoy variety or are sharing with friends, the "munchkins" (donut holes) are a fantastic choice. Unlike many chain shops, you can often ask the staff for specific flavors in your mix, allowing for a customized tasting experience. The Boston Cream and Jelly-filled donuts also stand out for their generous portions of filling. If you are a fan of the "retro" experience, grab a seat at the counter, order a classic coffee, and pair it with an old-fashioned cake donut. The dense, moist crumb of the cake donuts is perfect for dipping. It is worth noting that the shop is a nut-free facility, which is a significant factor for families and individuals with sensitivities. Regardless of whether you lean toward the trendy cronut or the classic chocolate frosted, the freshness and the "made with love" feel of everything at 203 West 14th Street make it a location that truly lives up to its status as an NYC classic. Don't skip the cronuts, but stay for the atmosphere—it is one of the few places left that truly feels like the New York we all know and love.
In conclusion, The Donut Pub is a quintessential part of the Chelsea landscape. By sticking to their roots while perfecting modern favorites, they have created a space that feels essential to the city's identity. For the local New Yorker, it is more than a bakery; it is a 24-hour beacon of quality and nostalgia. If you find yourself on 14th Street, a stop here is always the right decision.

The donuts were SO good. A great exterior crunch and tons of flavors to try. They also had munchkins if you wanted a mini version (which ask what flavor you want). Staff was so sweet. Decor decorated like a retro diner. There’s some dining inside. No bathroom.

The Donut Pub is a NYC classic for a reason. We love the cronuts here. They are flaky, buttery, perfectly sweet, and always done right with great toppings and fillings. It’s become a tradition for us: we get them every time we come to NYC. Great variety, old-school shop vibes, and everything tastes fresh. If you’re visiting, don’t skip the cronuts!

It’s a small little pub/dinner style establishment but there’s a plethora of donuts. I picked up a tiramisu, French toast and fruity pebble doughnut. All of the base donut was delicious, soft & fluffy. The tiramisu had a bold espresso & a sweet cookie. The French toast had maple syrup taste with a cookie but I couldn’t tell what it was supposed to taste like. Lastly the fruit pebble one was simply a glaze with crunchy fruity pebbles. I liked the fruity pebbles the most. The donut is really good alone & the cereal added a crispy texture.

I would say the atmosphere alone is worth going. What a fun donut shop and cool feeling in there. The doughnuts were good, I have had better, but still good. Service is fast and efficient.

Delicious and fresh donuts!! We had a dozen for a work birthday party and the whole team loved them. The options at the bakery all looked delicious and just walking in you smell the sweet but natural taste. They have gluten options I must come back for. Highly recommend!
