Bagel Shop

1659 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10128, USA

4.0
Everyone was so nice here and the bagels were amazing. I walked a bit to central park to eat the breakfast bagel so it was a little cooled down by the time I ate it but it was still amazing. I took the bagel with cream cheese to roosevelt island too and that still tasted soft and nice even with the cold weather. I dont know how they get their eggs so fluffy in the breakfast sandwiches. The place does get a little crowded, but the speed they give u the food was incredible. - Melissa Ko

Bagel Shop Introduce

In a city where breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day, finding the perfect "Bagel Shop" is a rite of passage for every New Yorker. Located in the heart of the Upper East Side, the aptly named Bagel Shop at 1659 3rd Avenue has become a cornerstone of the neighborhood's culinary landscape. For those who live and work in the 10128 zip code, this establishment represents more than just a quick bite; it is a testament to the high standards of New York City’s bagel culture. Whether you are a local resident heading to Central Park or a visitor exploring the nearby museums, this shop offers an authentic taste of Manhattan that is both reliable and exceptionally delicious.

It is a place where speed meets quality, and where the staff treats every customer with a level of kindness that can be hard to find in the morning rush. The local community has long championed this spot for its commitment to freshness. Unlike many high-volume bakeries that rely on heavy toasting to mask day-old bread, the offerings here are celebrated for being soft, warm, and flavorful enough to eat exactly as they come. This commitment to traditional texture and superior customer service has solidified its reputation as a premier destination for breakfast and lunch enthusiasts alike.

Location and Accessibility

Convenience is king in Manhattan, and Bagel Shop is perfectly situated to serve a diverse crowd. Located at 1659 3rd Avenue, New York, NY 10128, the shop sits between 92nd and 93rd Streets. This prime location makes it a favorite for those living in the residential high-rises of the Upper East Side. It is also an ideal starting point for a scenic walk; many patrons pick up their orders and head west for a few blocks to enjoy their meal in the iconic surroundings of Central Park. For those heading elsewhere, the shop is well-positioned for commuters using the Q train at 96th Street or the 4, 5, and 6 lines at the 86th Street station.

The shop’s accessibility extends beyond its physical location. It is designed to accommodate the fast-paced lifestyle of the city. While the interior can get a bit crowded during peak morning hours—a sure sign of a quality local haunt—the layout is optimized for high-speed service. Even during the busiest rushes, the flow of customers is handled with professional efficiency, ensuring that you can get your morning coffee and bagel without missing your train or being late for a meeting. Its proximity to Roosevelt Island via the nearby tram or ferry also makes it a popular choice for those planning a day trip across the East River.

From the texture of the bread to the unique flavors of their salads, the highlights of this establishment are grounded in quality and consistency. Here are the features that local users frequently rave about:

  • Superior Freshness: The bagels are consistently soft and warm. Regulars often recommend eating them untoasted because the natural texture is so high-quality that it doesn't need the extra heat.
  • Fluffy Egg Texture: A major highlight is the breakfast sandwich preparation. The eggs are known for being exceptionally fluffy, a feat that many find incredible given the speed at which they are prepared.
  • The Mexi-Kale Salad: Beyond the bread, the shop is famous for its Mexi-kale salad. Featuring a standout jalapeño cilantro dressing, it is a local favorite that pairs perfectly with either chicken or steak.
  • Speed of Service: Even when the shop is crowded, the staff operates with impressive efficiency, minimizing wait times without sacrificing the quality of the food.

What is worth choosing

Choosing a meal at Bagel Shop is an exercise in satisfying your cravings with high-quality ingredients. If it is your first time visiting, the classic breakfast bagel with cream cheese is a mandatory starting point. The soft, chewy texture of the untoasted bagel is a revelation for those used to tougher, commercial varieties. For those who want something more substantial, the breakfast egg sandwiches are highly recommended. The secret to their popularity lies in the eggs; somehow, they manage to be fluffier and lighter than what you’ll find at a standard bodega, making for a superior morning sandwich experience.

However, the hidden gem of the menu is undoubtedly the Mexi-kale salad. It has earned a dedicated following among Upper East Siders for its vibrant flavors. The jalapeño cilantro dressing provides a refreshing and slightly spicy kick that elevates the kale base. Whether you choose to top it with perfectly seasoned chicken or steak, it is a meal that promises "good good food" and superior quality. If you are looking for a spot that masters the basics while offering surprising culinary depth, this 3rd Avenue staple is exactly where you need to be. It is a place where quality is superior, the food is delicious, and the customer service is consistently superb.
