What is worth choosing
If you are stepping into Breads Bakery for the first time, there is one item that stands above the rest: the Chocolate Babka. This isn't just a pastry; it’s a New York institution. The babka is sold as a whole pre-packaged loaf, and for the best experience, locals recommend taking it home and warming it up slightly. The result is a rich, chocolatey, and gooey treat that stays incredibly moist for days. It is packed with layers of premium chocolate and features a slightly crunchy exterior that gives way to a decadent center. It is the highlight of the bakery for a reason and is a "must-buy" for anyone visiting the 16th Street location.
Beyond the babka, the almond croissant is a spectacular choice for those who appreciate a more traditional pastry. Reviews often praise the almond filling for being smooth and flavorful without the cloying sweetness found in many other bakeries. The chocolate rugelach is another favorite, though it leans more toward the texture of a mini chocolate croissant than a traditional cookie-style rugelach. For those seeking something savory, the award-winning baguette is non-negotiable. Its crisp, golden crust and airy, chewy interior make it the perfect accompaniment to any meal. Whether you choose a sweet treat or a savory staple, the bakers are always happy to help you navigate the mesmerizing display to find exactly what you’re looking for. A visit to Breads Bakery is a reminder of why New York remains one of the greatest food cities in the world—simple concepts executed with extraordinary skill.
In conclusion, Breads Bakery at Union Square is a destination that truly lives up to its widespread acclaim. By focusing on the art of the bake and maintaining a warm, community-focused atmosphere, it provides a high-quality experience that satisfies both the traditionalist and the modern foodie. For any New Yorker in the 10003 area, it remains an essential stop for daily staples and indulgent treats alike.

Babka only comes in whole pre-packaged loaves, so take it home and warm it up! So rich and chocolatey and gooey. It keeps well and stays moist. I didn't find the rugelegh that unique tasting, just a chocolatey croissant. It's still tasty, but the babka was definitely the highlight for me!

Signs announcing that this bakery has been awarded best baguette and best croissant are all over the walls of this bakery with good reason. Upon entering, you’re confronted with a really mesmerizing display of breads and pastries, and the bakers in-store are happy to discuss their products and help you make a selection. Because I am limited to the confines of my human organs, I could not eat everything and picked an almond croissant and a chocolate rugelach. The almond filling was delicious and smooth, and nothing was too sweet: completely perfect. I’m a little traditional with rugelach, and I think this felt a little more like a mini chocolate croissant to me, but it was delicious nonetheless! Will be returning.

I ordered online 3 days ago on January 13th. Today I received my bread! Unbelievable service! The presentation is lovely! I tried the Chocolate Babka first and am in love. Such rich chocolate and flaky bread. The Life gives you Lemons cake is moist with a delicate lemon flavor topped with just the right amount of crumble. And the carrot cake is a perfect combination of carrots, raisins, nuts, and spices. I'm sorry for the reason we learned of this NY company, but so thrilled we got to experience their amazing product! G_d's richest blessings on you for much continued success!

The chocolate Babka is incredible. Came here just for this and I’m so glad I did. Delicious and chocolatey, yet light because of the bread like dough. Even as I was walking someone saw me with a breads bakery bag and said “did you get the chocolate babka?” So clearly if you know you know. Now you know too - go try it!!

Oh, where do I even begin with Breads Bakery in Union Square? This gem of a spot turned my casual afternoon stop into an unforgettable treat! As a bakery aficionado, I was immediately drawn to their Jerusalem Bagel Stick – a sesame seed-crusted breadstick generously filled with aromatic za'atar and creamy feta. The first bite was an absolute delight: the crunchy exterior gave way to a soft, savory interior bursting with herbal zest and tangy cheese. It's not just bread; it's a flavor adventure that transports you straight to the streets of Jerusalem! I even provided some videos showing what this incredible bread looks like – you have to see it to believe it, and I highly encourage everyone to give it a try. To elevate the experience, I paired it with their Super Fruit Tea – a vibrant, antioxidant-packed brew with notes of berries and citrus that originally comes unsweetened. We added a small amount of sugar to enhance its natural flavors, and the subtle sweetness perfectly complemented the bagel stick's bold spices, creating a harmonious balance on my palate that left me craving more. And the atmosphere? Warm and cozy, with the scent of fresh-baked goods wafting through the air and just the right amount of bustle to make you feel alive yet relaxed. It's the kind of place that begs you to linger, sip, and savor. What truly set this visit apart was the exceptional service from Louis at the counter. His politeness, professionalism, and genuine kindness made me feel like a valued guest from the moment I walked in. He patiently guided me through the menu and offered spot-on recommendations tailored to my tastes. If you're visiting, do yourself a favor and chat with Louis – his personalized suggestions will make your experience even better! In a city full of bakeries, Breads Bakery stands out as a must-visit. Based on this delightful outing, I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking quality baked goods, great vibes, and top-notch service. I'll be back soon – five stars all the way! 🌟🍞
