CHIM CHIM NYC Introduce
In the bustling heart of Manhattan, where the culinary landscape is as diverse as the city itself, a new gem has emerged to capture the hearts and palates of New Yorkers. Chim Chim NYC is a boutique bakery that brings a refreshing and heartfelt perspective to the local dessert scene. Nestled in the historic and charming neighborhood of Gramercy Park, this establishment is far from your typical neighborhood bake shop. It represents a beautiful fusion of tradition, innovation, and the personal journey of its founders. As a local New Yorker, finding a spot that offers something truly "different" is a rare treat, and Chim Chim NYC delivers exactly that with its sophisticated Thai-inspired flavor profiles and artisanal approach to pastry.
The name "Chim Chim" carries a special meaning, rooted in a playful invitation to return and taste again. This philosophy is evident in every aspect of the bakery, from the warm smiles of the owners to the meticulous presentation of their cakes. Unlike the mass-produced sweets often found in larger commercial hubs, the offerings here feel intimate and intentional. The bakery is owned and operated by a dedicated couple—a husband-and-wife team where the wife serves as the lead baker. Her vision involves reimagining classic dessert formats through the lens of Southeast Asian ingredients and memories of international travels, resulting in a menu that stands out prominently among the countless dessert spots across the five boroughs.
Walking into Chim Chim NYC, visitors are immediately struck by the cozy, welcoming atmosphere. It is the kind of place that feels like a well-kept secret, where the air is thick with the aroma of freshly brewed Thai coffee and delicate sponge cakes. Whether you are a lifelong resident of the East Side or a visitor exploring the quiet streets near Stuyvesant Square, this bakery offers a sanctuary of sweetness. It is a testament to the vibrant small-business culture of New York City, where a "heartfelt spot" can thrive by offering quality, authenticity, and a taste of something truly unique.
Location and Accessibility
Chim Chim NYC is perfectly situated at 352 E 20th St, New York, NY 10003. For those traveling from other parts of the city, the bakery is conveniently located within walking distance of several major transit lines. The Union Square station, a major hub for the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R, and W trains, is just a short stroll away, making it an easy destination for a weekend treat or an after-work pick-me-up.
The storefront itself is an inviting part of the streetscape. While the interior is intimate with limited seating, its cozy nature adds to the charm of the experience. What is worth choosing
If it is your first time visiting Chim Chim NYC, you might find the menu to be delightfully unconventional. For those looking for the ultimate signature experience, the Ube Salted Egg Yolk Pork Floss Burnt Cheesecake is an absolute must-try. This cake is a daring reimagination of the "pork floss cake" (Rousong Xiaobei) often found in Shanghai. It features a rich salted egg yolk cheesecake base paired with a subtle, gently sweet ube cake on the bottom, all topped with a generous layer of savory pork floss and a "secret sauce" that creates a savory-sweet profile unlike anything else in the city.
For a crowd-pleasing option that hits all the right notes of nostalgia and comfort, the Thai Tea Cake is highly recommended. It is expertly crafted with layers of light sponge cake and buttercream, topped with a silky Thai tea custard. The flavor is deep and aromatic, capturing the essence of the beloved beverage in a moist and airy dessert format. If you prefer something lighter and more refreshing, the Butterfly Pea Coconut Jelly Cake offers a fantastic array of textures, including creamy coconut, chewy coconut meat, and a jiggly butterfly pea jelly, all resting on a satisfyingly crunchy pie crust.
To accompany your treats, do not overlook the beverage menu. The Es-Yen Thai Style Coffee is a standout choice for those who appreciate a bold, aromatic caffeine kick balanced with the creamy richness of condensed milk. Alternatively, the Bangkok Thai Iced Tea provides a classic, sweeter accompaniment that pairs beautifully with the more savory cake options. No matter what you choose, the attention to detail and the unique flavor profiles at Chim Chim NYC ensure that your visit will be the first of many.

I stopped by on their first day open and they were already buzzing. Their cake menu stands out from many spots in the city, with a real focus on thai flavors you don’t see often. The bakery is owned by a lovely couple, with the wife as the baker. The space is cozy and welcoming, and I was greeted with the warmest smiles as the husband proudly walking me through his wife’s creations. Always happy to support new, heartfelt spots like this :’) *Ube Salted Egg Yolk Pork Floss Burnt Cheesecake $12 * Inspired by their trip to Shanghai, this cake is a reimagination of 肉鬆小貝 (pork floss cake). The first bite hits with a generous layer of pork floss and their mayo-like “secret sauce”, followed by the rich salted egg yolk cheesecake. The ube cake on the bottom is subtle and gently sweet. *Thai Tea Cake $10 ** An easy crowd favorite. Every bite is full of thai tea flavor, from the silky custard on top to the light sponge cake and the buttercream layers in between. The cake is moist, airy, and not too sweet. *Butterfly Pea Coconut Jelly Cake $12 This was the most lightly sweetened cake of the three, and I really enjoyed the layers of texture—creamy coconut cream, soft chiffon, chewy coconut meat, jiggly butterfly pea jelly, and a crunchy pie crust at the base. *Es-Yen Thai Style Coffee $6.5 * *Bangkok Thai Iced Tea $7 My first time trying Es-Yen coffee (an iced espresso with condensed milk), and it was so rich and aromatic, but surprisingly not too sweet. I will totally get it again. In comparison, the thai iced tea definitely leans sweeter.

A small cozy establishment with limited seating. The cake selection they’ve got is VERY different. I’m not sure if I’ve had pork floss on a cheesecake before! Definitely something you should try once. Apparently the name of the restaurant means to come again and that’s what I intend to do so I can try everything else 😂 The couple that owns the place seems pretty sweet and wholesome as well. I walked in while they were filming a promo and their interactions with each other were so cute.

Chim Chim is an Asian/Thai inspired bakery. Their salted egg yolk ube cheesecake is delicious!! also not too sweet. It goes very well with their frizzy Yuzu Americano.
