H&H Bagels Introduce
For over half a century, the name H&H Bagels has been woven into the very fabric of New York City’s culinary identity. Established in 1972, this iconic brand has appeared in legendary television shows like Seinfeld and Sex and the City, cementing its status as the "gold standard" for what a true New York bagel should be. Today, H&H Bagels continues this legacy at its premier location within the Moynihan Train Hall at 421 8th Avenue. This site serves as a vital gateway for commuters and locals alike, offering a taste of authentic Manhattan history in one of the city's most beautifully renovated transit landmarks. For New Yorkers, H&H represents a commitment to the traditional water bagel method—a process that ensures a distinctively chewy interior and a shiny, firm crust that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot replicate.
The Moynihan Train Hall location captures the modern spirit of the city while honoring its past. As part of the massive redevelopment of the James A. Farley Post Office Building, the shop sits within a bright, airy, and sophisticated environment. It is a place where the fast-paced energy of a transit hub meets the comforting, nostalgic aroma of freshly baked dough. Whether you are catching an Amtrak to Washington D.C., a Long Island Rail Road train home, or simply working in the Midtown West area, H&H Bagels provides a reliable, high-quality breakfast or lunch that feels quintessentially New York. The shop is designed for maximum efficiency, catering to the "New York minute" without sacrificing the artisanal quality that has kept the brand famous for decades.
Location and Accessibility
H&H Bagels is centrally located at 421 8th Ave, New York, NY 10199, specifically housed within the Moynihan Train Hall. This location is arguably one of the most accessible points in the entire tri-state area. It sits directly across 8th Avenue from the traditional Penn Station complex and Madison Square Garden, making it a focal point for the Midtown West neighborhood. For local users, the accessibility of this shop is unmatched; it is integrated into a transit hub that features full elevator access to all platforms, making it an easy stop for those with luggage, strollers, or mobility needs. The Moynihan Train Hall itself is praised for its spaciousness and clear way-finding, allowing patrons to find H&H without the typical subterranean confusion of older station layouts.
The shop is a short walk from the A, C, and E subway lines at 34th Street-Penn Station, and just one block over from the 1, 2, and 3 lines. This proximity ensures that regardless of which borough you are traveling from, a fresh bagel is never out of reach. For those arriving via regional rail, the shop is perfectly positioned for a quick "grab-and-go" before boarding. The hall is open from 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM daily, though the bakery typically operates from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, providing ample coverage for the morning rush and the evening commute. The surrounding area is a hive of activity, near the Hudson Yards district and the High Line, making it a convenient starting point for a day of city exploration.

What is worth choosing
When standing at the counter of an institution like H&H, the choices can be overwhelming, but there are a few items that are non-negotiable for the true New York experience. The Nova Salmon Everything Bagel is the quintessential choice. Patrons rave about the generous portions of silky, high-quality salmon paired with a "whirlwind" of fresh fixings like tomatoes, onions, and capers. The "Everything" seasoning at H&H is particularly well-balanced, providing a savory crunch that complements the creaminess of their signature schmear. For those who prefer a hot breakfast, the Classic Bacon, Egg, and Cheese is a local favorite, especially when ordered on a toasted Everything or Sesame bagel. The eggs are griddled fresh, providing a texture that sets it apart from typical fast-food offerings.
If you are looking for something unique to H&H, the "Novacado" (Lox spread, avocado, and onion) offers a modern twist on the classic. For those with a sweet tooth, a slice of their Chocolate Babka is the perfect companion to a hot cup of their small-batch coffee. It is important to note that while H&H is famous for its "What's hot?" tradition, the fast-paced nature of the train hall means you should clearly specify if you want your bagel extra toasted to ensure it retains its heat during your commute. Whether you are a regular commuter or a first-time visitor, choosing H&H Bagels at Moynihan Train Hall is a vote for quality and tradition in the heart of the city. Light Buttered toasted Bagel - butter didn’t melt because it was not hot. Wrapping in bagel is not heat sensitive where the heat of the bagel is kept inside. Bagel is cold prior to opening to eat. Bagel fell out of wrapping in the bag as I opened it due to poor wrapping Always nice space in the recently renovated Moynihan Hall.

Got a Nova Salmon Everything super bagel at the Moynihan/Penn station in Manhattan. The bagel was scrumptious with very generous amounts of obviously high quality salmon, loads of cream cheese and fixings. But the best of all was the exceptionally efficient service. “J” in particular was like a machine! She somehow managed to be like a whirlwind toasting, cooking, schmearing & paying attention to each detail, running circles around all of her colleagues while giving exceptional service where her smiles reached her eyes and she connected with her clients. Kudos to the hiring team. Great experience!

H&H has fallen a long way from grace. Shame they have sold out their long history of freshness and quality for hard over priced bagels in all of the new stores. Today at Moynihan Station location, I ordered a cold brew with a touch of skim milk. What I got was a frothy watered down milk bomb with whatever was left in their cold brew machine. They also don’t have straws (pinching every penny). There are only a few good things you can count on in life. There is one fewer…

Do you prefer your bagels with the joy of potential cream cheese scraped off? Bagel came with diminished dose of dairy. Quality of food was perfectly acceptable. Black coffee was mediocre. Service was quick and pleasant.

H&H has been my go-to bagel spot for years. Delivering a great breakfast meal for a great price. One of the people that makes it possible is Jesse. He is very attentive and friendly, always has a positive attitude, and remembers my order.
