Vesuvio Bakery Moynihan Train Hall Introduce
For over a century, the name Vesuvio has been synonymous with the soul of New York City’s baking tradition. Originally founded in 1920 in SoHo, the bakery became a cultural landmark, famous for its iconic lime-green storefront on Prince Street and its commitment to authentic Italian breads. Today, that legacy has found a vibrant new home in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Vesuvio Bakery at Moynihan Train Hall serves as a bridge between old-world New York charm and the sleek, modern energy of the city's premier transit hub. For local New Yorkers and commuters, this isn't just a place to grab a quick bite; it is a piece of living history reimagined for the 21st-century traveler.
Walking through the soaring glass atrium of the Moynihan Train Hall, the "chic and inviting" presence of Vesuvio stands out as a sanctuary for carbohydrate lovers. The shop is designed to harmonize with the hall’s grand architecture while maintaining the warmth of a neighborhood bakery. Whether you are an Amtrak passenger preparing for a long journey or a local professional navigating the Penn Station complex, the aroma of fresh yeast and premium espresso offers a momentary escape from the urban hustle. Vesuvio’s expansion into this space ensures that the artisan quality once reserved for a quiet SoHo corner is now accessible to the hundreds of thousands who pass through the 8th Avenue corridor daily.
Location and Accessibility
Vesuvio Bakery is located at 421 8th Ave, New York, NY 10001, specifically situated within the Moynihan Train Hall. This location is a masterpiece of accessibility, serving as the modern western expansion of the Pennsylvania Station complex. For locals, reaching the bakery is seamless via the A, C, and E subway lines at 34th Street–Penn Station, which provide direct underground access to the hall. Additionally, the 1, 2, and 3 lines are just one block east, making it a convenient stop for anyone traveling from the Upper West Side, Chelsea, or Lower Manhattan.
The bakery is strategically placed near the Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) passenger platforms, making it the ultimate destination for "train lunch" or a pre-departure breakfast. Unlike many older station facilities, Moynihan Train Hall is fully ADA-compliant, featuring expansive elevators and wide concourses that make visiting Vesuvio a breeze for those with luggage or limited mobility. The shop’s position under the 92-foot glass skylight allows patrons to enjoy their coffee in a space flooded with natural light, a rare luxury in the often-subterranean world of New York transit. For those entering from the street, the 8th Avenue entrance between 31st and 33rd Streets offers the most direct path to these "delectable" carbs.

What is worth choosing
If you find yourself standing at the Vesuvio counter, the croissant is an absolute non-negotiable. At approximately $5, it is a "worth it" investment in culinary joy—described by patrons as having great structure and a richness that isn't overwhelmingly greasy. It is the kind of pastry that turns a mundane train ride into a gourmet experience. For those seeking something more substantial, the focaccia is a standout choice. Whether it is a simple sea salt and olive oil version or the pizza-style cheese and pepperoni focaccia, the dough is consistently moist, fluffy, and "packed with good carbs."
For a full meal, the Prosciutto and Mozzarella sandwich on their house-made stirato bread is a local favorite. The crunch of the 48-hour fermented crust paired with high-quality Italian meats makes it a superior "train lunch" that will leave your fellow passengers envious. Finally, do not overlook the coffee. Not only is the brew fantastic, but the "inspiringly beautiful" cup design adds a touch of art to your morning routine. Whether you are trying to be "rockstar skinny" or just looking for a delicious distraction, Vesuvio Bakery at Moynihan Train Hall is a destination that consistently delivers on the promise of quality. Next time you are passing through Penn Station, why not treat yourself to a croissant and see if the "big fella" has a seat waiting for you on the train? Would you like me to look up their current seasonal pastry menu for your next trip?

If you want good carbs with friendly service, this is the place in Moynihan Train Station. If you want some dough to go with your train lunch you will not be disappointed. The server who wrapped my focaccia took great care.

I’m currently sitting in seat 10A of this Amtrak train that is about to depart to Philadelphia, eating this delectable croissant from Vesuvio as messy as a bulldog eating a bowl of chili in hopes that no one will sit next to me. I was initially not going to eat after work, as I’m trying to be rockstar skinny, but Vesuvio was so chic and inviting in the middle of Moynihan train station that I couldn’t help but cop a coffee and a croissant. After ringing up $5 for a butter croissant I felt I had been stabbed in the back, but eating this right now, I can assure you, it was worth it. Not too buttery and had great structure. No one has sat next to me yet either…. The to-go coffee cup was inspiringly beautiful. I know I probably sound like I’m being fake deep with that, but these small details make a huge difference. Coffee tastes fantastic too…….I will likely regret a cup of coffee this late, but my adrenal glands have been put through the absolute ringer these past few months, so I think I’ll be ight. It’s in gods hands. The big fella got me! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

2024 update: patiently waited in line behind slow tourist. Two women just magically appear and act like these isn’t a line. I was ahead of them and they agreed I should go first. The server instead says to the women you were next. I just left the line. The constant poor biased customer service is annoying. And literally every time I go there there are flies in the baked goods. I went back to act the associates name. It’s Justin. I told him what happened and no apology or acknowledgement. I will never patronize this brand again. Quick service. And their pastries are nicer, more creative and fresher than its neighbor Starbucks. I love pistachio. They have an awesome Pistachio Cruffin (Croissant & Muffin combined). About 6.25 but it is substantial in size. Usually I’m At Grand Central. Whenever at Penn. this is a must.
