H&H Bagels Introduce
When it comes to the fabric of New York City’s culinary identity, few names carry as much weight and nostalgia as H&H Bagels. For decades, this brand has been synonymous with the gold standard of New York bread-making, providing the chewy, dense, and flavorful foundation for the city’s favorite breakfast sandwiches. For locals navigating the bustling corridors of Manhattan, specifically those commuting through the transit hub of Penn Station, the H&H Bagels location at 1 Pennsylvania Plaza serves as a vital pitstop. This isn't just a place to grab a quick bite; it is a quintessential New York experience tailored for the fast-paced lifestyle of residents and commuters alike.
The significance of a high-quality bagel shop in the heart of the city cannot be overstated. In a town where everyone is in a rush, finding a reliable spot that balances traditional artisan methods with modern efficiency is a rarity. H&H Bagels has managed to maintain its reputation by sticking to the classic techniques that made New York bagels famous worldwide: using high-quality ingredients, boiling the dough before baking, and ensuring every bagel has that iconic golden-brown crust. Whether you are a lifelong New Yorker or someone who has recently made the city their home, understanding what makes this specific location a staple of the Midtown experience is essential for your daily routine.
Location and Accessibility
Positioned strategically within the LIRR Concourse at 1 Pennsylvania Plaza, H&H Bagels is designed for maximum accessibility. Its location is particularly convenient for those utilizing the 1, 2, and 3 subway lines, as the store is situated in the side hallway immediately adjacent to the subway entrance. This makes it an ideal stop for thousands of commuters who pass through Penn Station every morning on their way to work or school. Because it is nestled within the subterranean transit network, it provides a seamless transition from the train platform to a hot breakfast without requiring a trip up to the street level, which is a massive advantage during the cold winter months or rainy afternoons in the city.
While the hustle and bustle of Penn Station can be overwhelming, the layout of this H&H Bagels allows for a streamlined flow of traffic. It is a location built for speed, catering to the "New York minute" philosophy. Despite being in one of the busiest transit hubs in the world, the shop remains a visible and welcoming beacon for those in need of a reliable meal. The accessibility extends to the ease of ordering, with a layout that encourages a quick "in and out" process, perfect for those with only a few minutes to spare before their train departs.

What is worth choosing
If you are visiting this H&H Bagels for the first time, or if you are looking to refine your regular order, there are specific items that truly stand out. The egg and cheese sandwich is a perennial favorite among the local crowd. Real customers have frequently praised the preparation of this staple, noting that when ordered on a cinnamon raisin bagel, it provides a unique and excellent balance of savory and sweet. The texture of the bagel remains the star—chewy on the inside with a resilient crust that holds up well even if you have to carry it onto a crowded train.
For those who prefer a simpler start to their morning, a classic bagel with a generous spread of cream cheese is always a safe and satisfying bet. While the prices at H&H are considered premium compared to a standard street cart, the value is found in the quality of the ingredients and the consistency of the product. Whether you are looking for a quick snack before a long commute or a hearty breakfast to start your workday in Midtown, H&H Bagels at Penn Station offers a reliable, high-quality slice of New York life that is well worth the stop.

Choosing a shop that is located directly on your path to work—without the need for an extra detour—makes H&H a practical choice as much as a culinary one. While the shop is a high-traffic destination, the quality of the bagels remains a testament to the brand's enduring legacy in the five boroughs. When you choose H&H at 1 Pennsylvania Plaza, you are choosing a piece of New York history that continues to fuel the city's workforce every single day.

I ordered an egg and cheese on cinnamon raisin and it was excellent! Well prepared, tasty, and excellent value overall. The staff were very efficient and courteous as well. This will be my regular stop whenever I have a craving for a good bagel/bagel sandwich. The store is located in the side hallway adjacent to the 1/2/3 subway entrance.

I am a regular customer at this location as it’s on my way to work. I appreciate the fast service of your team, often they are short staffed so I don’t complain. On Friday 10/31 my cinnamon raisin bagel was drenched in butter, extremely disappointing, Needless to say your prices are above average.

Melissa completed my order perfectly and was very nice about it. She also prepared other customer orders simultaneously without making anyone unhappy. H&H bagels are very good. I highly recommend this location, at least when Melissa is behind the counter.

I went to this location at 5:30pm to pick up. The app shows pick up window is from 5:40pm -5:45pm and the shop is supposed to close at 6pm. Guess what, when I got there, it was closed. There were least 6 people standing outside of the shop trying to pick up their orders. We waited 10 mins and a group of workers finally arrived. So we thought ok, we are getting our bagels. Instead of addressing the situation, the workers simply unlocked the door and went in without any explanation. I had to ask them what’s going on and they simply said they worked here but they were off duty and there were no more bagels. Yet in the app, it showed my order was picked up. A ridiculous situation and non existing customer service. Never again.

A slight step up from a grocery store/dunkin bagel .. but not by much. I got a toasted everything bagel with scallion cream cheese but I would think I was eating a plain bagel with plain cream cheese if I closed my eyes. It is very tough as well so it’s hard to bite or rip. Overall… I wouldn’t recommend even if you’re really in a pinch. I will say, the employees were very kind and very efficient, my bagel was ready by the time I got to the cashier!
