Magnolia Bakery - Moynihan Train Hall Introduce
Introduction / Overview
When it comes to legendary New York City institutions, few names evoke as much sweetness and nostalgia as Magnolia Bakery. Since its humble beginnings on a cobblestone corner in the West Village in 1996, Magnolia has grown from a local gem into a global icon of American baking. The Moynihan Train Hall location, situated within the stunningly revitalized Farley Post Office Building, represents the modern evolution of this classic brand. It brings the same "made-from-scratch" philosophy that made the original Bleecker Street shop famous to one of the city's most impressive transit hubs. For New Yorkers navigating the daily rush or travelers arriving in the city for the first time, this location offers a reliable sanctuary of sugar, butter, and world-class hospitality.
Despite its presence in a high-traffic transit center, the Magnolia Bakery at Moynihan Train Hall maintains the high standards of excellence that have defined the brand for decades. Many locals might initially worry that an "iconic" spot in a train station could lose its edge, but this location proves that baking "the shabang down to a science" is still very much alive. The shop is celebrated not just for its products, but for an atmosphere characterized by overwhelmingly kind and welcoming staff who bring a genuine passion to their work. Whether you are seeking a quick slice of cake before boarding an Amtrak or looking to bring a taste of Manhattan back home, this bakery serves as a vibrant reminder that Magnolia is not just a part of NYC history—it is a thriving part of its present.
Location and Accessibility
Magnolia Bakery is perfectly positioned at 383 8th Ave, New York, NY 10001, inside the prestigious Moynihan Train Hall. This location is part of the larger Penn Station complex, specifically housed in the Farley Building directly across 8th Avenue from Madison Square Garden. For NYC residents and commuters, this is perhaps one of the most accessible points in the entire city. It is situated on the main concourse level, making it a convenient "grab-and-go" stop for those lining up to board Amtrak or Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) trains.
Accessibility is a primary feature of the Moynihan Train Hall design, which is fully ADA-compliant. The bakery can be reached via several street-level entrances, including the grand staircase on 8th Avenue or the mid-block entrances on 31st and 33rd Streets, all of which offer elevator and ramp access. For those coming by subway, the A, C, and E lines at 34th Street–Penn Station provide direct access to the complex. The Train Hall itself is open to the public daily from 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM. While this specific Magnolia location does not offer dedicated seating, the surrounding Moynihan Food Hall provides a spacious and modern environment where visitors can enjoy their treats while taking in the magnificent skylights of the hall.

What is worth choosing
If you are standing at the counter and find it difficult to choose—a common occurrence given the exciting recommendations from the staff—there is one item that stands above all: the World-Famous Banana Pudding. It is synonymous with Magnolia for a reason. The combination of creamy vanilla pudding, fresh bananas, and Nilla wafers creates a texture that is genuinely phenomenal. For those visiting during the autumn months, the Seasonal Apple Pudding or the Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake are exceptional choices that showcase the bakery's ability to innovate within their classic framework.
Beyond the pudding, the White Out Cake and the Carrot Cake are highly recommended for those who appreciate a traditional American cake experience. The White Out Cake is a fan favorite for its airy texture, while the Carrot Cake offers a rich, spiced flavor profile that pairs perfectly with a hot latte. For something a bit different, the Lime Meringue Tart is a masterclass in execution, balancing tart citrus with a sweet, toasted topping. And for the ultimate "treat yourself" moment during a layover or a long commute, the Everything Ice Box Bar provides a decadent, multi-layered experience that is worth every calorie. No matter what you choose, you are participating in a New York tradition that continues to set the standard for excellence.

When in NYC, you have to stop at Magnolia! They are famous for their bread pudding, but everything else we tried was delicious too. We had the bread pudding, white out cake, carrot cake, everything ice box,m and apple crisp. Honestly, I can't say one was better than the other, they all were amazing. Highly recommend trying it out. The white out cake could have had a little more icing, but was still good.

We have heard of magnolia bakery, almost synonymously with Madison Square Garden, Manhattan, upper east side, times square, and Grand Central Park. And so I have to concede that I had put this off almost because I had prematurely, relegated it to one of those overrated places that were once great, but could not have possibly maintained their excellence. BOY was I wrong. The ladies who are working at this location were so overwhelmingly, kind and welcoming, and so passionate about what they were doing that I couldn’t help but smile. I asked what they would recommend and they got me really excited about so many items that became difficult to choose. And I actually really enjoyed that. But that means that since they had gotten me excited, I was now expecting something truly great. So we ordered one slice of cake, they world, famous banana pudding, their seasonal apple pudding, the seasonal pumpkin spice cheesecake, and they lime meringue tart. The execution on every single one of these items was genuinely phenomenal. I personally didn’t like the flavour of the apple one, but what I cannot fault it on is the execution. These guys have baking breading caking icing the whole shabang down to a science. I was really shocked to learn that magnolia bakery is not just something that was once iconic. It still is.

It's what they do, and they do it very well! So, if you go through Moynihan Trail Hall in NYC, you must. I've been twice, and both times I got the classic Banana Pudding. I had to behave, ordering only the small size. That was very difficult. The Red Velvet banana pudding ran out the first time I was there. Unfortunately, both times I went, the service was not the greatest. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't really good, either. On the whole, it's worth the stop if you are passing through!

Excellent assortment of desserts as always. Had a Hummingbird slice cake and the classic banana pudding at different times and matches the taste of the other stores. The only thing I would recommend is that you provide a level of quality assurance and oversight so that the staff at this location are as efficient and responsive as the Bleecker store --especially given the amount of traffic the place gets with its location!
