Realmuto: Italian Pastry & Gelato Introduce
For New Yorkers, the daily commute through Penn Station is often a race against the clock, but a new culinary arrival is encouraging travelers to slow down and savor a moment of "dolce vita." Realmuto: Italian Pastry & Gelato, located within the newly revitalized concourses of Pennsylvania Plaza, stands as a sophisticated tribute to the rich traditions of Sicilian baking and artisanal gelato. Founded by Francesco Realmuto, a Sicilian-born entrepreneur with a deep-rooted passion for his heritage, this establishment brings a level of "alta pasticceria" (high pastry art) to Midtown that was previously reserved for boutique cafes in the West Village or elite neighborhoods of Italy. It is a place where the frenetic energy of Manhattan meets the soulful, sun-drenched flavors of Palermo, providing a high-quality sanctuary for both the rushed commuter and the leisure seeker.
The shop is more than just a convenient stop; it is a meticulously curated experience led by world-class talent. The pastry program is helmed by award-winning Chef Giuseppe Zito, an international champion recognized for his mastery of panettone and gelato. Every item in the display case reflects a commitment to technical precision and premium ingredients, from the silkiness of the house-made mousses to the delicate zest of citrus-infused brioche. In a transit hub often dominated by mass-produced fast food, Realmuto offers a "ceremonial" atmosphere, where even a quick cup of espresso and a mini cake feels like a refined ritual. The shop’s aesthetic—clean, modern, and distinctly European—serves as a visual promise of the quality found in every bite, making it a 5-star gem in the heart of the city’s transit network.
Location and Accessibility
Realmuto: Italian Pastry & Gelato is strategically located at One Pennsylvania Plaza, Concourse Level, Space C104, New York, NY 10119, USA. Situated within the sprawling Penn Station complex, it is one of the most accessible dessert destinations in Manhattan. For locals, it is a primary stop when traveling via the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), NJ Transit, or Amtrak. Subway users can easily reach the shop via the 34th Street-Penn Station hub, which serves the 1, 2, and 3 lines as well as the A, C, and E lines. Additionally, those coming from the Herald Square side (B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, and W lines) will find it just a short underground walk away. The shop is located in the modern, improved section of the station, ensuring that the environment is bright, clean, and fully ADA accessible via the station's numerous elevators and ramps. Its position on the concourse level makes it an ideal "grab-and-go" point before heading to the tracks or into the office buildings of the surrounding Plaza.

The shop typically mirrors the high-traffic hours of the station, often opening as early as 7:30 AM to serve the first wave of commuters and closing by 8:00 PM. For those using pick-up apps like "Too Good To Go," note that collection times usually occur in the 30-minute window following the standard retail closing time.
What is worth choosing
If you are looking for the definitive Realmuto experience, the "Oro Verde" (Green Gold) selection is the absolute must-try. Available as both a mini cake (monoporzione) and a large torta, it features a vanilla sponge base layered with pistachio praline, pistachio mousse, and a glossy pistachio chocolate glaze. It is widely considered one of the best representations of the nut's flavor in the city—savory, sweet, and incredibly smooth. For those who prefer a more traditional Roman-style treat, the Maritozzo (Italian cream bun) is a standout. This light, airy brioche is split and filled with a generous cloud of whipped cream, often subtly flavored with citrus zest like orange or lemon, providing a cloud-like texture that is far superior to standard American doughnuts.
For a refreshing pick-me-up during a summer commute, the Gelato is an undisputed 5-star choice. Flavors like Hazelnut and Dark Chocolate are exceptionally rich and creamy, reflecting the shop's heritage from the L’Arte Del Gelato group. If you are lucky enough to catch a "Too Good To Go" bag, you might find hidden gems like the Raspberry Vanilla Tiramisu Cake—a rose-shaped mousse cake that combines the tartness of berry compote with the smooth finish of Haitian vanilla cream. Regulars also highly recommend the Chocolate Bombolone, which is noted for its high-quality cocoa and perfect pastry-to-filling ratio. Whether you are catching the 5:15 to Montauk or simply passing through Midtown, choosing any of the chef-driven entremets will guarantee a dessert that justifies its price through its impeccable layers of flavor and world-class presentation.

I used the 'too good to go app' for this bakery because I seem to always get to Penn Station after they close. The app time is for about 30 minutes after their closing time. I showed my phone at the door and the lady came out with a white paper bag and box. You'll have to bring your own bag with a handle if you want to be able to carry the items efficiently. The items inside was a rose shaped raspberry vanilla tiramisu cake, mini tiramisu cake, maritozzo (Italian cream bun), and a chocolate bombolone. The items tasted good. I had about 2 of them and gave the other 2, to different people. They said that it was good as well. The goods tasted like they were made with higher quality ingredients. The flavor and presentation justifies their prices (sometimes I do get there in the morning, I just don't buy anything). The raspberry tiramisu tasted like a mousse cake and the other person that had the mini one said the same thing. The maritozzo had a slight lemon taste that was barely noticeable and the cream inside tasted normal. I heard the maritozzo is normally made with orange zest, but for some reason it tasted like lemon.

Wow wow wow! This place is a gem. My husband got me a Tiramisu Torta for my birthday, and it was the best Tiramisu ever!! I have tried so many Tiramisu from bakeries and restaurants since it is my favorite dessert. But Realmuto is another level. Various flavors are perfectly well balanced. Their packaging is also gorgeous. It made my day~ 😍

This Italian pastry shop is a true delight. The selection is fantastic — from crispy cannoli, to freshly baked croissants — everything looks yummy and tastes great! The coffee is rich, smooth, and perfectly prepared. What makes it even better is the staff: incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. Highly recommend to stop by!
