La Nueva Bakery Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In the heart of one of New York City’s most diverse and vibrant neighborhoods lies La Nueva Bakery, a long-standing establishment that has become synonymous with the daily routines of Jackson Heights residents. Located on the bustling 37th Avenue corridor, this bakery serves as more than just a place to grab a quick bite; it is a community hub where generations of families have gathered to share stories over a hot cup of coffee and traditional South American pastries. For many New Yorkers who were born and raised in the area, La Nueva Bakery represents a piece of home, maintaining a presence that reflects the evolving yet deeply rooted culture of Queens.
The bakery is widely recognized for its authentic approach to Latin American baking traditions, offering a wide array of sweet and savory items that cater to the diverse palates of the local population. From the early morning hours when the scent of fresh dough and roasting coffee beans wafts onto the sidewalk, to the busy afternoon rushes, the atmosphere is consistently energetic. It is a place where the local community supports one another, and it is not uncommon to see long-time patrons greeting staff by name, reflecting a level of service and personal connection that is often hard to find in the fast-paced environment of New York City.
While the bakery is a beloved local haunt, it also serves as a destination for food enthusiasts from across the five boroughs looking to sample genuine empanadas and traditional desserts. The establishment prides itself on its welcoming environment, making it a favorite spot for friends to meet and continue traditions passed down from parents to children. Whether you are looking for a quick caffeine fix before hopping on the subway or a box of assorted pastries to share at a family gathering, La Nueva Bakery offers a slice of authentic New York life.
Location and Accessibility
La Nueva Bakery is conveniently located at 86-10 37th Ave, Jackson Heights, NY 11372, USA. This prime location puts it right in the center of one of the city's most accessible commercial districts. For those traveling by public transportation, the bakery is exceptionally well-positioned. It is just a short walk from the 82nd Street-Jackson Heights subway station, which serves the 7 train, providing a direct link for commuters coming from Manhattan or deeper into Queens. Additionally, the major transit hub at 74th Street-Roosevelt Avenue—serving the E, F, M, R, and 7 trains—is within easy walking distance, making the bakery accessible from almost anywhere in the metropolitan area.
For those who prefer the bus, several local lines including the Q32 and Q33 run frequently along the nearby streets, dropping passengers off mere blocks away from the storefront. While street parking in Jackson Heights can be notoriously competitive, the high density of the neighborhood makes it an ideal stop for those on foot. The storefront is easily visible along 37th Avenue, nestled among other local businesses, and features a layout that accommodates the high volume of foot traffic characteristic of this busy Queens thoroughfare. Its central position makes it an easy addition to any weekend itinerary or daily commute through the neighborhood.

What is worth choosing
If you are planning a visit to La Nueva Bakery, the absolute "must-try" items are their savory selections and their coffee. Local regulars frequently point to the empanadas as a highlight of the menu. These are perfect for a quick lunch or an afternoon snack, offering a consistent and satisfying taste of traditional street food. Pairing an empanada with a freshly brewed coffee is the quintessential La Nueva experience, favored by those who have frequented the shop for decades. The pastries, ranging from sweet rolls to filled turnovers, are also excellent choices for those looking to sample a variety of textures and flavors common in Latin American baking.
However, when it comes to larger, more complex items such as custom cakes, it is worth noting that experiences can vary. While the bakery excels at daily individual treats, some patrons have found their custom vanilla birthday cakes to be a bit of a gamble. Specifically, there have been instances where the cake texture was denser and drier than expected, sometimes featuring a burnt bottom or a level of sweetness that might be overwhelming for some palates. If you are looking for a cake for a large group, it might be beneficial to have a very detailed conversation with the baker regarding your specific preferences for moisture and sugar levels, or perhaps stick to their smaller, tried-and-true daily items which consistently receive high praise.
Ultimately, La Nueva Bakery is worth choosing for the atmosphere and the staples. It is a place where you go to feel the pulse of the neighborhood, enjoy a reliable cup of coffee, and indulge in the savory snacks that have made it a cornerstone of 37th Avenue. Whether you are following in the footsteps of your parents or discovering it for the first time with friends, the bakery provides a warm, authentic, and genuinely New York experience that remains a vital part of the Jackson Heights community fabric.

The best place to get your coffee, pastries empanadas etc. Service is great. Born and raised here and it's always one place i go to. Service is excellent. The community supports each other here. My mom, Rosa, 😉 loved coming here with her friends and I will continue doing that with my friends✈️.

I ordered a vanilla cake for my daughter’s birthday, and it was very disappointing. The bottom was burnt, the cake was dry, not soft, and had a yellowish inside. I asked for it not to be too sweet, but it was very sweet. I spent $100 for a cake for 25 people, and not a single guest liked it. The only decent part was the simple decoration. I wish I could leave zero stars.

We tried bite sizes of a few different types of cakes. All were very dry. My husband got a strawberry tres leches cake slice and it too was VERY dry. I would not recommend this bakery when you have this many selections in the neighborhood.

The Alfajores weren't too sweet and had maintained their structural integrity to be enjoyed. The Queso Empanadas were good too.

I love going here for the migas de jamón y queso and their sandwiches. Today I was there with my two kids, I had grabbed a apple juice from the fridge and put it down on the table to attend my child, since she was making an iced coffee for me, I was going to grab the coffee from her and she asked if I was going to pay for the juice that I grabbed, clearly there was no one at the register and I was waiting for her to make the iced coffee so she can charge me for the juice. I didn’t appreciate her service, it was very poor. Food is always great but maybe next time she can give me the opportunity to pay for an item before assuming I was going to take it for free.
