Mr Buñuelo Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In the vibrant, multicultural heart of Jackson Heights, Queens, Mr Buñuelo stands as a shining example of authentic Colombian culinary tradition. Located on the legendary Roosevelt Avenue, this bakery has quickly become a destination for those seeking a true taste of South American comfort food. As any local New Yorker knows, Queens is the ultimate borough for global flavors, and Mr Buñuelo delivers an experience that is both deeply rooted in heritage and welcoming to the curious palate. The establishment specializes in the art of the buñuelo—a traditional fried dough ball made with cheese—offering a sensory experience that combines a golden, crispy exterior with a soft, airy, and slightly salty interior.
The atmosphere at Mr Buñuelo is defined by more than just its high-quality baked goods; it is known for the incredible hospitality of its owner and staff. In a city as fast-paced as New York, finding a spot where the service is described as "kind" and "deserving of everything in the world" is a rare find. This warmth has made the bakery a favorite stop for organized food tours, drawing international visitors from as far away as Germany, while simultaneously serving as a daily staple for the local Spanish-speaking community. Whether you are a connoisseur of Colombian panaderías or someone discovering these flavors for the first time, Mr Buñuelo provides a friendly and professional gateway into the rich world of Colombian snacking culture.
Operating in the 11372 zip code, Mr Buñuelo contributes to the energetic street life of Jackson Heights. It is a place where the air is often filled with the inviting aroma of fresh cheese bread and hot coffee. The bakery represents the "hidden gem" quality that New Yorkers prize—an unpretentious storefront that offers world-class quality at an accessible price point. For residents of the five boroughs and beyond, it is an essential stop on any culinary tour of Queens, proving that the best flavors are often found in the neighborhood spots that treat every customer like family.
Location and Accessibility
Mr Buñuelo is perfectly positioned at 83-25 Roosevelt Ave, Queens, NY 11372, USA. This location puts it in one of the most transit-rich areas of New York City, making it exceptionally easy to visit regardless of which borough you are coming from. The bakery is situated in the bustling Jackson Heights/Elmhurst area, a neighborhood famous for its diversity and its status as a premier food destination. Roosevelt Avenue itself is the lifeline of the neighborhood, sitting directly beneath the elevated tracks of the 7 train, which is often referred to as the "International Express."
For those using the subway, the bakery is just a short walk from the 82nd Street-Jackson Heights station on the 7 line. It is also within walking distance of the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street hub, which provides access to the E, F, M, R, and 7 trains. This level of connectivity makes it a convenient stop for commuters and food explorers alike. Pedestrian traffic in this area is high, and the bakery's storefront is a welcoming sight among the eclectic mix of shops and restaurants that line the avenue. If you are traveling by bus, multiple MTA lines including the Q32 and Q33 serve the immediate vicinity. While street parking can be quite challenging on Roosevelt Avenue, the immense public transit options more than make up for it, allowing visitors to arrive easily and enjoy their fresh buñuelos while they are still hot.

What is worth choosing
As the name suggests, the absolute must-order item at Mr Buñuelo is the buñuelo itself. These are not just any cheese balls; they are widely considered among the best in New York. The contrast between the thin, crunchy outer shell and the pillowy, cheese-infused dough inside is a masterclass in texture. For the best experience, it is worth choosing to eat them immediately while they are still warm, as the steam helps release the subtle aroma of the cheese. They are affordable enough that you should consider ordering several—both to enjoy on the spot and to take home for later.
Beyond the signature item, it is worth exploring the bakery's selection of other Colombian staples. If they are available, items like pan de bono (cheese bread made with cassava starch) or almojábanas provide a slightly different but equally delicious cheese-forward experience. To round out your visit, choosing a traditional Colombian coffee is a smart move; the acidity and richness of the coffee act as the perfect foil to the savory, fried nature of the buñuelos. For those visiting during a food tour or as a first-timer, do not hesitate to ask the owner for a recommendation. Given his reputation for kindness and passion for his craft, his suggestions are often the highlight of the visit. Whether you are looking for a quick snack on your way to the subway or a deep dive into Colombian snacks, Mr Buñuelo is a Queens gem that delivers exactly what it promises: world-class food served with a side of genuine love.

Came here during an organized Foodtour and never tasted something like this before. The owner is really nice and kind and deserves everything on this world. Will surely come back, when I'm back in NYC! Best from Germany!

Never before tasted a bunuelos or Tomas but they were very good. I’d recommend you give them a try if you’re the same. Owner is friendly and service is quick.

Had to wait 15 minutes for a fresh batch, but tradeoff was that it was piping hot fresh. Pillowy soft and delicious with lots of different fillings. I got the strawberry and guabana. Owner is super polite and friendly.
