Maxin Bakery Introduce
In the high-energy heart of Flushing, Queens, where the streets are alive with the sights and sounds of one of New York City’s most vibrant commercial hubs, Maxin Bakery stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of traditional Chinese baking. Located on the bustling Main Street, this bakery has become a beloved fixture for locals who demand authenticity, freshness, and value. For anyone navigating the dense culinary landscape of the 11354 zip code, Maxin Bakery offers a sensory escape—the warm, sweet aroma of toasted sugar and savory roasted meats often spills out onto the sidewalk, enticing busy commuters and neighborhood residents alike to step inside for a quick, comforting bite.
Maxin Bakery is characterized by its "no-nonsense" approach to quality. While many modern cafes focus heavily on elaborate decor, this establishment prioritizes the product. It functions as a classic high-volume New York bakery where the turnover is rapid, ensuring that the items on the shelves are consistently fresh. From the crack of dawn until the evening rush, the bakers at Maxin work tirelessly to produce a wide array of buns, cakes, and pastries that reflect the nostalgic flavors of traditional Hong Kong and Cantonese-style baking. For many New Yorkers, a visit to Maxin is a trip back in time to the "old-school" bakeries of decades past, where the filling was generous and the prices remained accessible to the working community.
Location and Accessibility
Maxin Bakery is strategically located at 40-06 Main St, Flushing, NY 11354, USA. This prime location places it right in the thick of downtown Flushing's busiest retail corridor. For those traveling from other parts of the city, the bakery is exceptionally easy to reach via public transportation. It is just a few short blocks from the Flushing–Main Street station, the terminal stop for the 7 subway line, which provides a direct link to Midtown Manhattan. Additionally, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Flushing-Main St station is nearby, offering a faster alternative for those coming from Long Island or the east side of Manhattan.
Given its position on Main Street, foot traffic is the primary way people access the shop. The area is a major hub for dozens of MTA bus routes, including the Q13, Q27, Q44 SBS, and Q58, making it a convenient "pit stop" for those transferring between lines. For those considering driving, it is important to note that street parking on Main Street is virtually non-existent during business hours. Most local drivers utilize the various municipal parking lots or private garages located on the surrounding side streets. The bakery itself features a standard street-level entrance that is accessible to pedestrians, though the interior can become quite crowded during peak morning and weekend hours due to its immense popularity.

What is worth choosing
If you are a first-time visitor to Maxin Bakery, the absolute standout item is the BBQ pork bun (Char Siu Bao). Regulars frequently point out that Maxin’s version is superior because it features a generous amount of high-quality meat filling with a perfect balance of sweet and savory sauce, avoiding the "all-bread, no-meat" pitfall of lesser bakeries. At a price point of approximately $2.10, it is widely considered one of the best values in the borough. Another essential choice is the fresh sponge cake. These are noted for being exceptionally light and "heavenly" in texture; whether you choose the plain vanilla or one with a citrus filling, the freshness is unmistakable.
For those looking for something a bit more unique, the sweet corn danish and the curry beef puffs are highly recommended by the local community. The curry puffs offer a flaky, buttery crust with a savory, spiced interior that provides a satisfying contrast. If you are in need of a drink to wash it all down, the house-made soymilk is a refreshing, traditional accompaniment that isn't overly sweet. It is worth noting that Maxin is often a cash-preferred or cash-only environment depending on the transaction size, so having a few dollars on hand is a smart move for a smooth experience. Whether you're there for a single bun or a whole Boston cream cake, you'll find that Maxin Bakery delivers a factual, delicious slice of Flushing's culinary heritage. Man oh man, this is way TOO GOOD. I went before closing and the sponges are so FRESH! This will be my go-to spot from now on. I also got their soymilk which was refreshing. I'll be back to try their other items.

Best bbq pork bun I’ve had in a VERY long time. This place had ample filling, delicious bread, and NO FILLER. Bakeries I’ve been to either skimp out on filling and or add so much fat to it that it’s gross. This is what buns used to taste like in the 2000s!! Best price too - only $2.10

Their baked goods are not as good as they used to before the pandemic. Prices went way up, and the food quality and portions went down
