Talavera Cafe Introduce
In the heart of Woodside, Queens, where the intersection of diverse cultures creates a unique culinary tapestry, Talavera Cafe stands as a vibrant destination for locals seeking authentic flavors. Combining the warmth of a neighborhood bakery with the robust menu of a professional cafe, this establishment has become a go-to spot for New Yorkers living near the Sunnyside and Woodside border. Talavera Cafe brings a slice of Mexican-inspired culinary tradition to Skillman Avenue, offering a menu that bridges the gap between early morning sugar cravings and the need for a hearty, savory lunch. For those who call this part of Queens home, the cafe represents the quintessential "local gem"—unpretentious, flavorful, and deeply rooted in the community it serves.
Walking into Talavera Cafe, visitors are often struck by the aromatic blend of fresh-pressed coffee and the savory scent of grilled meats and spices. Unlike a standard commercial bakery, Talavera focuses on a multi-dimensional dining experience. While the display cases feature a variety of traditional baked goods, the kitchen works tirelessly to produce made-to-order meals that have earned high praise for their generous portions and authentic seasoning. The atmosphere is friendly and professional, reflecting the hardworking spirit of the neighborhood. Whether you are a commuter grabbing a quick bite before heading into Manhattan or a local resident enjoying a slow weekend brunch, the cafe offers a welcoming environment that feels like an extension of a neighborhood kitchen.
Location and Accessibility
Talavera Cafe is conveniently located at 50-17 Skillman Ave, Woodside, NY 11377, USA. This location is particularly strategic for residents of both Woodside and Sunnyside, as Skillman Avenue serves as a major thoroughfare known for its walkable layout and community-focused businesses. What is worth choosing
If you are planning a visit to Talavera Cafe, the "insider" recommendation is to dive straight into their savory menu, which many locals consider the true strength of the establishment. The Frida Sandwich is a standout choice, frequently praised for its complex layering of flavors and satisfying textures. It is a hearty option that perfectly encapsulates the cafe's ability to create a meal that is both comforting and sophisticated. Another top-tier selection is the Breakfast Steak Burrito. In a city where breakfast burritos are a competitive category, Talavera's version stands out due to the quality of the steak and the perfect ratio of fillings, ensuring every bite is flavorful and filling.
To complement these savory dishes, the tropical juices and iced coffees are highly recommended. These beverages are often cited as the perfect pairing to cut through the richness of the steak and spices. While the bakery section offers a wide variety of traditional pastries that are perfect for a quick snack, the cooked-to-order meals are where the kitchen's talent truly shines. If you are interested in their cakes, such as the Tres Leches, it is advisable to communicate very clearly with the staff or provide visual references to ensure your expectations are met, as the cafe strives to accommodate specific tastes. For the best experience, many New Yorkers recommend visiting for a late breakfast or an early lunch when the kitchen is in full swing and the ingredients are at their freshest. Whether you are there for the robust "Frida" or a quick caffeine fix, Talavera Cafe provides a genuine Woodside experience that is well worth the $40 investment for a full, high-quality meal for two.

Ordered the Frida sandwich and the breakfast steak burrito, my total was $40 with 1 tropical Juice and 1 ice coffee, this entire meal was so worth it not only because of the flavors each items brought out but the service as well was very on point. I would 10/10 get again. Most people in these comments only got pastries which in my opinion I wouldn't order at restaurants but to each is own.

I asked for a tres Leche cake and even shown the lady what I wanted and she gave me this nasty non-tasting peach cake instead. Never again I’m going here very disappointed.

I lived in the neighborhood for 3 years and this was my go-to spot for breakfast or lunch. I specially liked their Coffee ring, which I’ll buy to share with family with a cup of coffee or a cup of milk (the way I like it). The other staple for me was their chicken burrito because it was quick and tasty. The staff were always attentive and friendly, and also spoke Spanish, which I appreciated. I never had to wait too long for my food or to be attended.

We have given this restaurant multiple chances, hoping for the best today as they are under new management. The food is plain and not very flavorful. Steak breakfast burrito is good sized but no flavor, no salt or pepper on the meat, eggs, or potatoes. Pancakes were dry and chewy because they dont include syrup, just pour a little on the top. Ham and cheese croissant contained almost no ham or cheese, dry, and was flat like a dinner plate. Sausage, Egg and Cheese i ordered with mayonnaise and hot sauce, but recieved day old slice of tomato, with no mayo or hot sauce, and the eggs were dry with no seasoning. I try to support local businesses but $40 for a bad breakfast is not worth it to me. I hope the kitchen learns how to season their food and cook with passion and flavor in the future. Best of luck to this business

Chicken Quesadilla was really flavorful! The tortilla seemed freshly made and the Pico on the side with the fresh avocado slices were delicious too!!! Woman behind the bar was very friendly. I ordered take out.
