Unregular Bakery Introduce
In a city where the bakery scene is as competitive as the real estate market, standing out requires more than just a good recipe; it requires a unique identity. Unregular Bakery, located in the bustling heart of Manhattan’s 4th Avenue corridor, has carved out a distinct niche by blending high-concept aesthetics with genuine culinary substance. For New Yorkers living in the region, this isn't just another shop for a morning fix—it’s a destination where tradition is frequently turned on its head. While many city bakeries lean heavily into classic French styles or old-school American staples, Unregular Bakery pushes boundaries, offering items that are as visually arresting as they are delicious. From social media-famous donuts to artisanal sourdough creations, the bakery has become a cornerstone of the daily routine for Union Square commuters and neighborhood locals alike.
The name "Unregular" perfectly captures the spirit of the establishment. It suggests a departure from the mundane and a commitment to providing an experience that isn't found at every corner deli or chain coffee shop. For those of us navigating the morning rush or looking for a midday pick-me-up, the bakery serves as a creative hub. It manages to balance the high energy of New York City with a welcoming, professional atmosphere that invites customers to explore new flavor combinations. Whether you are a dedicated vegan looking for a high-quality pastry—a notoriously difficult find in the city—or a dessert enthusiast on a "donut tour," Unregular Bakery provides a level of craftsmanship that justifies the hype and keeps the local community coming back.
Location and Accessibility
Unregular Bakery is strategically located at 124 4th Ave, New York, NY 10003, USA. This prime Manhattan location sits just south of Union Square, one of the city's busiest transit and cultural hubs. Being on 4th Avenue places the bakery at the intersection of several vibrant neighborhoods, including the East Village, Greenwich Village, and Gramercy Park. For locals, this means the bakery is a perfect pitstop whether you are headed to the famous Union Square Greenmarket or making your way to the nearby NYU campus buildings.
Accessibility is a major highlight for this location. New Yorkers know that proximity to the subway is king, and Unregular Bakery excels here. It is just a short walk from the 14 St-Union Sq station, which serves the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R, and W lines. This incredible connectivity makes it an easy destination for residents coming from Brooklyn, Queens, or the Bronx. Additionally, multiple bus lines, such as the M1, M2, and M3, run along the nearby avenues. While street parking in this part of Manhattan is virtually non-existent and best avoided, the high walkability of the Union Square area ensures that the bakery remains a convenient choice for those on foot or using public transit. Its street-level presence is easy to spot, often marked by a steady flow of patrons eager to see what new creations are in the window.

What is worth choosing
When you step into Unregular Bakery, the choices can be overwhelming, but there are several items that are consistently hailed by locals as "worth the visit." If you are a fan of traditional New York pastries with a twist, their sourdough bagels are a must-try. The use of sourdough gives the bagel a distinct chew and a depth of flavor that sets it apart from the standard city bagel. For those looking for breakfast before work, the vegan croissants are legendary among the plant-based community. They manage to achieve the "buttery" flakiness that many thought was impossible without dairy, making them a staple for local vegans.
If you are visiting for something sweet, the donuts are the undeniable stars of the show. While they are incredibly photogenic, locals agree they are not just "for the gram." The candy-inspired donuts are particularly noteworthy. Instead of just piling candy on top, the bakery thoughtfully assembles fillings and toppings that recreate the joy of childhood favorites within a sophisticated pastry structure. For something with a bit more complexity, the blueberry rosemary option is a frequent favorite, offering a perfect balance of fruit sweetness and herbal aromatics. Whether you are grabbing a quick sourdough bagel or taking home a box of their innovative donuts, Unregular Bakery offers a high-quality experience that proves "unregular" is exactly what the New York bakery scene needs. It is a place where you come for the photos but stay for the quality of the bake.
In a city that never stops evolving, Unregular Bakery has managed to find a balance between modern trends and timeless quality. It is a local gem that serves as a reminder of why New York remains a global leader in the culinary arts. For any resident of the New York region, 124 4th Avenue is a destination that promises a breakfast or dessert that is anything but ordinary.

It’s not just photogenic - the donuts are great! A highlight of our donut tour. The candy-inspired flavors are well done - not just a pile of candy atop a donut, but thoughtfully assembled toppings and fillings that recreate the joy of your childhood favorites but also work as a pastry. Come to take pictures, but you’ll stay (and come back) for the quality.

This is absolutely my favorite spot. I grab breakfast before work all the time. It’s hard to find vegan croissants and this place absolutely nails it. Also vegan sourdough bagels! Lots of vegan options. Another favorite of mine is the blueberry rosemary.

Unregular Bakery was hands down the best bakery experience we had in NYC. The pastry display looks absolutely insane, and everything tastes just as good as it looks. We tried the croissant pudding, the K Bueno, and a cappuccino — all were amazing. The employee recommended we warm up the croissant pudding, and even did it for us — it was exactly what I had been craving after so many disappointing bakery visits in NYC. On top of that, he was super friendly, and you can really see how passionate he is about the bakery and pastries. We’d 100% come back to try all the other goodies.

a place to rest your bones so you can caffeinate and enjoying some sweet or savory baked calories, near Union Square Park, is Unregular Bakery. the space is brightly lit with splashes of color throughout, a large display of eye-catching baked goods , and a good amount of seating in the back if you want to stay...the space is well-maintained and clean. coffee here was fine and complemented the big chocolate chip cookie i got. the cookie has a nice balance of softness and crispness with soft chocolate chunks in buttery cockiness. thought the service was a bit chilly that day, not really unfriendly but not friendly...it was odd for a vibrant place. maybe an off day for those employees that day. Unregular Bakery also offers a variety of creative visually-pleasing drinks as well. definitely worth a stop if you want to grab a variety of savory or dessert-y items for the office or a get-together...or just need a solo late afternoon pick-me-up.

I popped in Friday evening for a sweet treat and was happy with the variety of vegan options they had. I got the Boston green donut and the chocolate mini croissants. The croissants were a little too crispy for me personally, but considering their size, I think that’s just how their texture is — they’d probably be great if you were dunking them into a drink. The donut was good too, it had all the flavors you want from Boston crème, but wasn’t overly sweet.
