Bagel Belly Introduce
In the high-stakes world of New York City breakfast, Bagel Belly has established itself as a reliable, no-nonsense anchor in the East Village. Located on the bustling corridor of 3rd Avenue, this shop serves as a quintessential neighborhood hub where the focus remains squarely on the art of the hand-rolled, kettle-boiled bagel. While Manhattan continues to see a rise in high-concept, expensive brunch spots, Bagel Belly caters to the "real" New Yorker—students from nearby NYU, long-time Gramercy residents, and hotel guests looking for that elusive $2 bagel. It is a place that values substance and tradition, offering a bright and casual space characterized by its unique "lacquered bagel" decor and a welcoming, community-oriented atmosphere.
The shop’s philosophy is built on accessibility and variety. Whether you are stepping in for a quick "grab-and-go" coffee or looking to settle into their outdoor garden seating for a quiet morning, Bagel Belly provides a relaxed setting that feels unpretentious. The interior features a signature self-serve island and wooden floors, creating a layout that manages to accommodate a steady stream of patrons without feeling overly transactional. In a city where a simple breakfast can easily break the ten-dollar mark, Bagel Belly’s commitment to reasonable pricing—famously offering basic bagels at a price point that harkens back to an older version of the city—makes it a standout destination in the 10003 zip code.
Location and Accessibility
Bagel Belly is situated at 114 3rd Ave #116, New York, NY 10003, USA, positioned strategically between East 13th and East 14th Streets. This location puts it at the crossroads of the East Village, Union Square, and Gramercy Park, making it one of the most accessible bagel shops for those navigating lower-middle Manhattan. The shop is just a short three-minute walk from the major transit hub at Union Square, providing effortless access to the L, N, Q, R, W, 4, 5, and 6 subway lines.
For those traveling by bus, the M101, M102, and M103 lines run directly along 3rd Avenue, with stops nearly at the shop’s doorstep. The storefront is street-level and easily navigable for those with strollers or mobility aids. One of the shop's most praised physical features is its outdoor garden patio, which offers a rare, quiet respite from the noise of 3rd Avenue—a perfect spot for those who want to enjoy their morning "BEC" (Bacon, Egg, and Cheese) in a more tranquil environment than the typical NYC sidewalk.

What is worth choosing
For those looking for the ultimate Bagel Belly experience, the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese (BEC) on a scooped-out Everything Bagel is the gold standard. Many regulars recommend "scooping" the bagel to allow the generous fillings—crispy bacon and perfectly cooked eggs—to sit deeper within the crust, creating a more balanced and manageable sandwich. If you are a fan of traditional Jewish-style deli fare, the Smoked Salmon on a Bagel with Plain Cream Cheese is another top-tier choice; the shop is generous with its portions of lox, ensuring each bite contains a satisfying amount of fresh, salty salmon.
If you're visiting for a lighter snack, the Flavor Cream Cheese on a Bagel is the most popular menu item for a reason. The jalapeño cream cheese, in particular, has earned praise for its fresh kick, while the scallion and lox spreads are consistently well-balanced. For those with a sweet tooth or visiting with kids, the Rainbow Belly Bagel—baked in different vibrant colors every day—is a fun and delicious novelty that doesn't sacrifice the quality of the dough. For a more substantial lunch, the "Hungry Man" hero (featuring eggs, cheese, ham, bacon, and sausage) or the "Mexican Burger" with avocado and pepper jack cheese are substantial options that reflect the shop's full-service deli capabilities. No matter what you choose, pairing your meal with their strong Colombian coffee ensures a quintessential New York morning that is both satisfying and kind to your wallet.

I’m here all the time. Bagels are good, staff is usually friendly. 4 stars because the facilities are a little beaten up and the dining area isn’t always kept clean. Also they’re very weird about prices. For example, they have a student discount, which they advertise prominently. Except the discount doesn’t apply to … bagels? Apparently bagels — at a bagel shop — are on the “special menu,” so they don’t count. Like huh? Also they just raised the price of pastries and muffins to $4.50, and they’re mid at best. I still come here all the time.

Amazing spot. Was recommended here by the hotel I was staying at and did not miss. $1.95 bagels? Insane. I got the The bacon egg and cheese with the bread scooped out. Incredible. Really nice staff too plus great sweets/pastry options

It states that they open at 7 on Sunday. I arrived at 7:15, and the establishment was closed. The individual inside was simply observing us, and approximately 20 minutes later, he mentioned that they did not have a cashier. Given that this is a service industry rather than a retail establishment, one would anticipate that orders would be taken, irrespective of the specific role.

Since I didn’t have time to search for one of those authentic NYC breakfast carts, I thought this bagel spot would suffice. Upon arriving, the servers took my order quickly and I paid shortly after. However, I waited a while for my sandwich, and then the person in line behind me got their order first. I think there was an overall lack of organization. It was pretty pricey for a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. I think I spent close to $7! It tasted fine, but not good enough for what they charge. The shop itself is pretty cute though, with clean floors and tables. If they lower their prices, I may return.

I was going to meet with a friend but got a little hungry. Decided to get something small to eat at this place, and it was my first time. I got a bagel and scallion cream cheese. They use their bagel as part of the decor. They also serve yogurt your way.
