Supermoon Bakehouse Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Located in the heart of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Supermoon Bakehouse has redefined the traditional bakery experience since its debut in 2017. Founded by Ry Stephen and Aron Tzimas, the creative minds behind the legendary cruffin, this bakehouse is far from your average neighborhood pastry shop. Supermoon is a celebration of hyper-modern, "super" versions of classic baked goods, where croissants take three to four days to perfect and ingredients are sourced from local mills and artisanal farms in Normandy, France. The shop has earned critical acclaim, including being named as one of the New York Times' best croissants in the city, making it a must-visit destination for any serious food enthusiast in the New York region.
The aesthetic of Supermoon Bakehouse is as much a part of the draw as the food itself. Often described by locals as having a "sterile yet edgy" or "art gallery" vibe, the interior features minimalist concrete walls, pink terrazzo counters, and iridescent packaging that reflects the shop’s bold, futuristic personality. While the atmosphere may feel stark to some, it serves as the perfect neutral backdrop for the vibrant, colorful pastries that are the true stars of the show. Whether you are drawn in by the neon "Bite Me NYC" sign or the scent of high-quality butter, Supermoon offers a sensory experience that is uniquely and unapologetically New York.
Location and Accessibility
Supermoon Bakehouse is situated at 120 Rivington St, New York, NY 10002, USA. This prime Lower East Side location puts it right in the center of one of Manhattan’s most culturally diverse and historically rich neighborhoods. The shop is a favorite stop for locals navigating the vibrant streets between Essex and Norfolk Streets, often acting as a cornerstone of a weekend morning stroll through the district’s many galleries and boutiques.
For those utilizing the New York City transit system, the bakehouse is exceptionally accessible. It is just a short walk from the Delancey St - Essex St station, which serves the F, M, J, and Z lines, providing direct connections from Brooklyn, Queens, and both the East and West Sides of Manhattan. The M15 and M9 bus lines also serve the immediate area, making it a convenient destination for cross-town travelers. While street parking in the Lower East Side can be notoriously difficult, the shop's "grab-and-go" layout is perfectly suited for the high foot traffic of the neighborhood. Visitors should note that while there is limited indoor seating, the shop is primarily optimized for a premium takeout experience.

Supermoon Bakehouse provides a sophisticated range of services tailored to the quality-conscious consumer. Their service highlights include:

- Delivery Services: If you can't make it to Rivington Street, Supermoon partners with platforms like DoorDash and Uber Eats for local delivery.
- Exclusive Merchandise: The shop offers high-quality apparel and "psychedelic" iridescent tote bags, allowing fans to bring a piece of the Supermoon brand home.
Features / Highlights
What sets Supermoon apart in the competitive NYC bakery scene is its commitment to "the art of the bake." Key highlights include:
- 3-Day Lamination Process: Their dedication to texture is evident in their croissants, which undergo a meticulous 72-hour process to achieve maximum flakiness.
- Instagrammable Design: Designed by Aron Tzimas, the interior features pink terrazzo and neon lighting, specifically created to be a visual destination for social media enthusiasts.
- Seasonal Rotation: The menu is constantly evolving, with new flavors and limited-edition "drops" that ensure no two visits are exactly alike.
- Artisanal Ingredients: From Isigny Ste Mère butter to locally sourced grains, every component is chosen for its superior flavor profile.
- Transparency: A large glass pane separates the storefront from the kitchen, allowing customers to watch the pastry chefs in action—an "artists in residence" experience.
- Fusion Flavors: The menu frequently features Southeast Asian-inspired ingredients, such as ube, pandan, and Thai tea, blended seamlessly with French pastry techniques.

What is worth choosing
When standing before the glass display at Supermoon, the choice can be overwhelming, but a few items have reached legendary status among regulars. The Ube Eclair is widely considered an "11/10" must-get; it features a hand-made eclair shell filled with ube and condensed milk crème pâtissière, finished with taro dust and ube chantilly cream. It is frequently cited as the best eclair in New York City, rivaling the quality of top-tier Parisian patisseries. For those who enjoy a balance of sweet and earthy tones, the Strawberry Matcha Croissant is a standout, praised for its "actual matcha flavor" paired with vibrant strawberry cream.
If you prefer savory treats, the Scallion Pancake Danish is a revelation. Inspired by the classic Chinese snack, this danish is fragrant, flakey, and incredibly flavorful, often featuring a "Dan Dan" noodle-inspired filling. Another savory favorite is the Spicy NYC Croissant, which balances cream cheese with black pepper for a sophisticated kick. For a limited-time weekend treat, look for the Blood Orange & Raspberry Twice-Baked Almond Croissant. To get the best selection, it is critical to arrive early—popular items are frequently marked with "sold out" labels by mid-day. Pairing your pastry with a Thai Tea Eclair or a seasonal craft coffee ensures the ultimate Supermoon experience that is well worth the premium price.

Their pastries are SO good omg. I’ve been back so many times, and they have seasonal items. The vibe of the place is um interesting tho o_o reminds me of a meat packing warehouse bc it looks um sterile? LOL Come early tho, their pastries sell out, and most things won’t be available in the afternoon and later even tho they close late - Ube eclair: 11/10, pricey but honestly similar price and quality to the ones I had in Paris. Best eclair I’ve had in nyc so far. Must get! - Strawberry matcha croissant: 11/10, the cream is so yummy!! I’m not usually a fan of matcha flavors, but it pairs so well with the strawberry cream - Scallion pancake danish: 10/10, surprisingly SO good. The one I got was a little on the burnt side, but the flavor and texture was amazing. Very fragrant and flakey!

Got the spicy nyc croissant (savory, not really spicey, has cream cheese inside with hints of black pepper), and scallion pancake Danish (i like this savory croissant, not spicey, has nice crunch texture, very good, would get this again) Thai tea eclair also very good, tasty, taste just like Thai tea 😁 I was able to sit inside, limited seating. Also it gets busy, so go early, things could sell out and they will post a sold out label in front of the items. I don't go often, but every time I come here there's always a variety of pastries to choose from sweet to savory and all good and worth trying.

TLDR: crème brûlée danish that was over baked, the crème itself didn’t have much flavor either Pastries are hitting $10 now after tax and before tip which is getting a bit egregious. I love crème brûlée so I ordered the crème brûlée danish and it did not go well. The danish itself was seriously over baked. It was a bit tough and one bite led to everything spilling out everywhere. The flavor of the crème was very subtle as well.

Supermoon is a fun stop for inventive pastries with a quirky display of realistic-looking sample items lined up with descriptions (though prices would’ve been helpful). We tried the Ube Éclair, which was rich and creamy inside with a crisp and flaky shell. The Mont Blanc was a refreshing coffee drink - an iced espresso topped with a citrusy orange cream that was bright and refreshing.

Came to try gelato. I got the pandan with Kay’s coconut. Even though the ice cream was perfect flavor wise and texture wise (not too melty, good mouthfeel), for the size of an $9 scoop I felt ROBBED. Additionally, they don’t do samples so you should have a lot of faith in what you’re getting. My friend got the ube ice cream sandwich which I felt was worth the $11 price tag. Atmosphere is brutalist, hostile architecture galore
