EllaMia Introduce
In the rapidly evolving landscape of New York City’s West Side, EllaMia has emerged as a sophisticated destination for those who appreciate the finer points of craft coffee and artisanal baking. Situated within the impressive Citizens Manhattan West food hall, this lifestyle cafe brings a touch of international flair to the 10th Avenue corridor. For New Yorkers navigating the intersection of Chelsea and Hudson Yards, EllaMia serves as a chic sanctuary, blending a modern aesthetic with a menu that honors traditional heritage. Whether you are a local resident looking for a new morning ritual or a professional working in one of the nearby glass towers, this establishment offers a curated experience that stands out in a city known for its competitive culinary scene.
The essence of EllaMia is rooted in its partnership with renowned "Babka King" Chef Shimi Aaron. By bringing his celebrated Los Angeles-born techniques to the New York region, the bakery has introduced a level of artistry to classic Jewish and Middle Eastern-inspired breads that was previously hard to find in this specific pocket of Midtown. The atmosphere of the cafe is designed to be both vibrant and upscale, reflecting the high-energy pulse of New York while providing the comfort of a local neighborhood haunt. It is a place where the scent of toasted grains and rich espresso creates an inviting backdrop for everything from quick business coffee meets to leisurely weekend treats.
Location and Accessibility
EllaMia is perfectly positioned at 398 10th Ave, New York, NY 10001, USA, making it a central fixture of the Manhattan West development. This location is exceptionally convenient for those visiting the nearby High Line or attending events at the Javits Center. For local users, accessibility is a major draw; the bakery is just a short walk from the 34th Street-Hudson Yards subway station, served by the 7 train, and is within easy reach of Penn Station, a primary hub for the LIRR, NJ Transit, and Amtrak. This connectivity ensures that whether you are commuting from the outer boroughs or heading out of the city, a stop at EllaMia is a seamless addition to your journey.
The cafe’s presence within the Citizens food hall means it benefits from a spacious, multi-concept environment. While the surrounding area of 10th Avenue is known for its industrial roots, the modern architecture of Manhattan West provides a clean, polished setting for the bakery. For those who enjoy walking the city, it is a pleasant stroll from the northern end of the High Line or a quick detour for those exploring the shopping and dining options at Hudson Yards. The accessibility of the space makes it a reliable choice for a high-quality caffeine fix or a fresh pastry without having to venture too far off the beaten path of the West Side.

What is worth choosing
When visiting EllaMia, the undisputed star of the show is the babka. Unlike the dense, often dry versions found in standard grocery stores, the babka here—particularly the avocado babka toast or the chocolate varieties—is celebrated for its moist texture and rich filling. It is a modern take on a classic that has earned Chef Shimi Aaron his "Babka King" moniker. For a unique breakfast experience, the Babka French Toast is highly recommended, offering a decadent start to the day that perfectly bridges the gap between dessert and breakfast.
Aside from the signature breads, the pastry case is always worth a look for its international influences. The selection often includes items that you won't find at every street-corner bakery in the city, reflecting a deeper culinary exploration of spices and textures. If you are in the mood for something savory, the pizza bagels have been noted as a fun, nostalgic choice, though some visitors recommend ensuring they are served hot to truly enjoy the melted cheese and sauce. Pairing any of these items with a signature Lavazza latte or a cold brew makes for a quintessentially New York "pick-me-up" that is both satisfying and stylish. Whether you are there for the "gram-worthy" interior or the high-quality grains, choosing a signature babka or a craft coffee is the best way to experience the heart of what EllaMia offers.

The staff was nice if not a little hovering. Felt like there was someone constantly behind me. Kind of unnerving. The music was soooo loud. Couldn’t really concentrate with how loud it was. Also, they were kind enough to give me a free pizza bagel to try. I loved the detail. However, it was COLD. Like cold in the center. I don’t know. I don’t try to look a gift horse in the mouth but it was a little gross. Cute space though

I came in here because of my wife. I wasn't planning to order anything, but then the pastries just looked to appetizing! Great service, and the food is both delicious and beautiful. Try the avocado toast!

Love the plant based matcha 🍵 Latte… 6.59$ small size, but the place is cute.
