Frenchette Bakery at the Whitney Introduce
In the dynamic landscape of the Meatpacking District, where industrial history meets contemporary high fashion, Frenchette Bakery at the Whitney has established itself as a premier destination for culinary artistry. Situated on the ground floor of the Whitney Museum of American Art, this establishment is far more than a standard museum amenity. It represents an ambitious expansion of the renowned Frenchette brand, bringing the meticulous French baking traditions of James Beard Award-winning chefs Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson to a sun-drenched, modern space. For New York locals and museum-goers alike, the bakery serves as a sophisticated gathering spot where the boundary between fine art and fine food begins to blur.
The interior of the bakery and cafe is a testament to thoughtful design, featuring expansive floor-to-ceiling glass walls that invite the energy of Gansevoort Street inside. The space is often filled with natural light, providing a serene backdrop for patrons to enjoy a quiet morning espresso or a leisurely lunch. With a focus on ancient and local heirloom grains, the bakery department produces some of the most technically accomplished breads and viennoiseries in Manhattan. Whether you are visiting the museum’s latest exhibition or simply looking for a neighborhood staple that offers a polished, professional atmosphere, Frenchette Bakery at the Whitney provides a consistent and high-quality experience that reflects the creative spirit of its surroundings.

What is worth choosing
When visiting Frenchette Bakery at the Whitney, the standout choice for any pastry enthusiast is the Paris-Brest A La Pistache. This dessert is a masterclass in French patisserie, featuring a ring of light choux pastry filled with a rich, silky Sicilian pistachio cream that balances nutty depth with a delicate sweetness. It has quickly become one of the most photographed and praised items on the menu. For those seeking something smaller, the Financier is frequently cited as excellent, offering a moist, almond-forward bite that pairs perfectly with their house-made organic juices or a sharp espresso.
On the savory side, the bakery's foundation in bread-making shines through in their sandwiches and pizz'ettes. The Mushroom Pizz'ette, often featuring toppings like King Oyster mushrooms and taleggio cheese, boasts an "unassailable" crust that is both crispy and chewy. If you are looking for a hearty soup during the cooler months, the Butternut Squash soup with yogurt and curry is a local favorite for its smart use of warming spices. Even a simple sandwich like the Jambon Beurre is elevated here by the quality of the house-baked baguette and the richness of the Ploughgate cultured butter. Regardless of whether you are stopping in for a quick "Paris-Brest" to go or sitting down for a full meal of steak frites, the quality of the bread and the precision of the pastry remains the undeniable star of the show.

Frenchette Bakery at the Whitney Reviews

I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the Frenchette Bakery at Whitney Museum, Meatpacking district, NYC, USA. A very convenient café inside the Whitney Museum — perfect for a quick break during your visit. They offer a nice selection of French pastries, all beautifully made. I tried the financier, which was excellent, and a fresh organic juice that was also great. Prices are reasonable considering the location.

This place is a paradise. An extension of the museum, kind of its own museum really since I believe food is art and lord, THIS food. With a menu like this it was tough to choose but I could not have asked for anything better than these beets and butternut squash soup in this bonkers January weather. I love a savory yogurt, they nailed it here, really every ingredient was used so smartly- these people just know how to put a plate together. I'll be honest the tuna sandwich didn't blow me out of the water. It was just okay. But the bread was unbelievable, which of course it was, because this BAKERY. That little green ray of heaven you see pictured there is a Paris-Brest A La Pistache and when I tell you it rocked my world people it rocked my world. We went back the next day to get another and I'm gonna be tearing my way through the rest of their patisserie menu. I didn't catch the name of our waitress but she was a beautiful human being, just one of those fabulous caring people that you just want to throw your arms around and thank for making you think the world might be alright. I didn't get good pictures of the interior but the actual space is stunning, very tasteful, natural light and all that, we sat by the window and watched the snow fall. Great spot all around. Glad I found another gem.

Really nice place and service is impeccable. The food is good but over priced for bakery style food. Paris will be falling head over feet when I'll say I paid 34$ for a croque madame! (grilled cheese) Should you want French food in a real French experience I'd choose wisely.

Lovely and cosy atmosphere, delicious and fresh foods, very welcoming staff. I really like the style of the handsome man at the reception. ❤️ How delicious can a scone possibly be? This was, without exaggeration, the best scone I’ve ever had in my life. Thank you.

I stopped by here with my group before going into the museum and was thrilled that they had a vegan option. Beyond the one option, however, there wasn’t many other options for vegan. There is also gluten free options as well, though.
