Ferrara Bakery & Cafe Introduce
In a city that is constantly reinventing itself, there are few places that hold the weight of history as gracefully as Ferrara Bakery & Cafe. Established in 1892, Ferrara is not just a bakery; it is a cornerstone of New York City’s cultural fabric. Located in the heart of Little Italy, this family-owned institution has been delighting New Yorkers and visitors for over five generations. Originally opened by Antonio Ferrara as a place for opera lovers to gather and enjoy refreshments, it has evolved into America's first pasticceria and espresso bar. Today, the scent of freshly ground continental coffee and sweet ricotta cream still wafts through the doors of its Grand Street home, transporting every guest to the cobblestone streets of Southern Italy.
The experience at Ferrara is dual-natured, catering both to those in a hurry and those who wish to linger. For many locals, it is a quick stop to pick up a box of signature rainbow cookies or a dozen mini cannoli. For others, it is a destination for a "really good experience" where you can secure a table, soak in the old-world ambiance, and enjoy a full service of gourmet desserts and specialty cocktails. The staff, known for their professional yet warm hospitality, maintain a standard of excellence that has been polished over 130 years. Whether you are sitting under the ornate ceilings inside or enjoying the bustling energy of the neighborhood from their outdoor seating, Ferrara offers a slice of authentic New York history that remains as fresh and vibrant as the day it opened.
Location and Accessibility
Ferrara Bakery & Cafe is prominently located at 195 Grand St, New York, NY 10013, USA. Positioned between Mulberry and Mott Streets, it sits in the absolute center of Little Italy, making it a natural landmark for anyone exploring the Lower Manhattan area. Its location is a short walk from the vibrant districts of Soho, Chinatown, and Nolita, allowing it to serve as a central meeting point for diverse groups of city dwellers and tourists alike.
Accessibility is a major advantage for this historic site. The cafe is easily reachable via several major subway lines, with the Grand St station (B and D trains) and the Canal St station (6, J, Z, N, Q, R, and W trains) just a few blocks away. For those who prefer to dine in, the bakery offers an expansive seating area that includes a refined indoor dining room and, during warmer months, a lovely outdoor setup. Customers have noted that sitting outside provides a fantastic "beautiful cafe" vibe where staff are attentive, even bringing condiments like syrup and hot sauce directly to your table. The cafe is open late into the evening, making it one of the few places in the area where you can enjoy a high-quality dessert and coffee well after dinner hours.

What is Worth Choosing
If it is your first time visiting Ferrara, the Cannolo Siciliano is an absolute "must-try." It is the signature item that has defined the bakery for over a century. The shell is perfectly crispy, providing the ideal vessel for the rich, velvety ricotta filling. For those who want something a bit more modern, the Tiramisu Martini is highly recommended by regulars for its delicious balance of coffee and liqueur flavors—it is essentially a liquid version of their world-class tiramisu cake.
If you are stopping by for a more substantial meal, the Special French Toast is a standout choice. It is prepared to look and taste "gourmet," making it a favorite for those seeking a high-quality brunch in a beautiful setting. For a lighter, more modern option, their Acai Bowls are surprisingly fresh and well-presented, proving that this historic bakery can keep pace with contemporary tastes. Lastly, you cannot leave without a bag of their traditional Rainbow Cookies to take home. They are buttery soft, layered with apricot jam, and coated in chocolate, offering a perfect example of why the Ferrara name has flourished for five generations. Whether you are there for a quick espresso or a full dessert experience, Ferrara Bakery & Cafe remains an essential New York City destination. Would you like me to look up their current holiday specials or seasonal pastry menus for you?

This bakery is really good. this is the second time that we came back to this bakery because the cheesecake is good. The cannolis are good. All the desserts are tasty. The first time we went in we just stopped by picked up some desserts and left. However, this time we stopped by, got a table, had some drinks and ordered our desserts. It was a really good experience. The tiramisu martini is delicious. all in all a really good time. we will be coming back here next time we are in New York City.

Amazing beautiful cafe I took my girl to. Ordered the special French toast meal and she got the acai bowl shown. We sat outside and the lady brought it to us. Even gave me the syrup and hot sauce. It tasted delicious and looked gourmet. Thank you very much to the workers here for producing such fantastic food. Coffee was fresh and great as well.

You have to try the breakfast panini here—it's one of the best, with unbelievably soft bread. The zucchini fritters are perfectly crispy, too. It's also a fantastic place for classic desserts like cakes, cannoli, and tarts.

While walking around Little Italy, I stopped by a pastry shop I chose based on Google reviews. I ordered a coffee and three different desserts. Two of the desserts were excellent, but one was not fresh, so I sent it back. Unfortunately, they didn’t even apologize. Their customer relations was very weak.

One of my favorite Italian pastry and bakery shops in New York City! Definitely the best one in Little Italy/Chinatown area!!! Most of other bakery shops usually get their pastries and bakeries from here, anyway. This is the quintessential classic Italian pastry shop everyone should visit in Little Italy. Pastries are absolutely delicious and service is great!! It was so good that we bought extras to take home, too. Highly recommended 👌 Scale 1-10: Food-9 Price-8 Service-10 Atmosphere-10 Cleanliness-9
