Leon's Bagels Introduce
In a city where the bagel is more than just a breakfast item—it is a cultural touchstone—Leon's Bagels has quickly established itself as a premier destination for both lifelong New Yorkers and international visitors. Located in the picturesque neighborhood of Greenwich Village, this charming establishment prides itself on preserving the time-honored traditions of the New York bagel while infusing a modern, clean aesthetic into the experience. Leon's Bagels is built on a "nothing fancy" philosophy that prioritizes the quality of the bake and the freshness of the ingredients over unnecessary gimmicks. This dedication to the craft has resulted in a bagel that many regulars describe as having an unparalleled flavor profile, making it a "must-visit" stop on any Manhattan culinary tour.
The atmosphere at Leon's Bagels captures the vibrant, fast-paced energy of Lower Manhattan. As a walk-up window service (or "ventanita") style shop, it caters perfectly to the quintessential New York lifestyle of grabbing a high-quality meal while on the move. Despite its popularity and the occasional line that stretches down Thompson Street, the shop is renowned for its efficiency and the genuine kindness of its staff. Whether you are a local heading to Washington Square Park for a morning stroll or a tourist eager to taste an authentic NYC staple, Leon's provides a welcoming environment where every order is handled with care and speed. It is a place where the simple joy of a warm, chewy bagel meets the sophisticated charm of one of the city's most beloved historic districts.
Location and Accessibility

What is worth choosing
When visiting Leon's Bagels, there are several standout items that have earned "legendary" status among the local community. For many regulars, the absolute gold standard is the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese (BEC) on an everything bagel. Leon's is frequently cited for getting the "ratios" exactly right—thick-cut bacon, perfectly cooked eggs, and melted cheese that doesn't overwhelm the bagel itself. To elevate this classic, many patrons highly recommend adding "chili crisp" or "hot honey," which provides a modern, spicy kick to the traditional flavors. For those who prefer a more personalized touch, the "bacon, avocado, egg, and cheese" combination is described by many as perfection in every bite.
For lovers of traditional deli fare, the Classic Lox Sandwich is an essential choice. It features a generous portion of lox, scallion cream cheese, tomato, onion, and capers, providing a fresh and salty profile that is quintessentially Manhattan. If you're looking for something lighter, don't overlook their unique cream cheese flavors; the seasonal "Pistachio" and "Dill Cucumber" schmears offer a refreshing departure from standard spreads. Pair your food with one of their expertly crafted Cold Brews or a Flat White to round out the perfect Greenwich Village morning. Regardless of what you choose, the quality of the freshly baked bagel—noted for its soft, sticky texture rather than a hard, dry bite—ensures that every selection is a rewarding experience. Whether you're a "true New Yorker" looking for your next quick fix or a visitor seeking the best bagel in the world, Leon's on Thompson Street is a choice that consistently fills both the heart and the stomach.

In my opinion, the best bagel place in the world. I’m from Chile and I’ve been to New York several times, and a bagel from Leon’s is always a must. I truly believe the flavor of their bagels can’t be found anywhere else. The girls are incredibly kind, the service is fast, and everything runs so smoothly. We went early and there was no line at all. I always order the same thing: a bacon, avocado, egg, and cheese bagel — perfection every single time. Thank you for filling both my heart and my stomach. See you on my next visit 🤍

Not sure what the hype is about but as a true New Yorker I give this place 3/5 stars. It was a good bagel but not the best I’ve had. A lot of tourists visiting the area and waiting in long lines which probably attracts more attention. It’s a good quick pick me up, nothing I would go out of my way for. I must say they were good with timing, I ordered a pick up order and as soon as I came they weren’t fully ready with the order but started working faster & gave me my bagel 2 mins later.

I have a whole storytime — this was my second time at Leon’s but my first (at their other location) was a bit of a letdown. My order was messed up, the bagels dry and hard but the staff ended up reaching out, inviting me in for bagels on the house! Already a better experience due to the quality of customer service. As for the bagels, last time was definitely an off day — today, they were fresh and fluffy, packed with flavorful filling. Highly recommend for the taste and service! Will be returning for sure now!

Absolutely love this spot. Had to have it two days in a row. Don’t let the lines scare you. They move so fast. The staff is so friendly, and it’s the cutest spot. Highly reccomend the Lox bagel or a BEC with hot honey. It’s a must stop while in NYC.

I’m not exaggerating — I went to Leon’s Bagels daily during my trip. It was THAT good. Everything tasted super fresh, the bagels had the perfect texture, and every order hit the spot. A must-visit if you love a great bagel.
