Location and Accessibility
Lloyd’s Carrot Cake Café is conveniently situated at 1565 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10029. This prime location in East Harlem puts it right in the flow of Upper Manhattan’s vibrant daily life. For those familiar with the area, the bakery recently transitioned to this new spot, but loyal customers will be pleased to find it is still on the same block and street, making it incredibly easy to locate even for those who haven't visited in a while. The new storefront is a significant upgrade, offering a polished look that stands out on Lexington Avenue.
Accessibility is a major advantage for this location. It is well-served by the New York City subway system, specifically the 6 train, with the 96th Street and 103rd Street stations just a short walk away. Features / Highlights
What makes Lloyd’s Carrot Cake Café a "must-visit" in a city full of bakeries? It comes down to a commitment to the fundamental elements of baking that many other places overlook. The highlights of this café are centered on quality, customization, and heart. Below are some of the standout features noted by long-time regulars and new visitors alike:
- Perfectly Balanced Texture: The carrot cake is famous for being incredibly moist, soft, and rich. It has a density that feels substantial without being heavy, a hallmark of their secret recipe.
- The Signature Frosting: Their cream cheese frosting is a major draw. It is perfectly balanced—not overbearingly sweet, but possessing that classic tangy finish that complements the spiced cake.
- Customization for Preferences: Recognizing that the "raisin and nut" debate is real, Lloyd’s offers variants of their cake so that customers can get their slice exactly how they like it, including versions without walnuts or raisins.
- Stellar Customer Service: The staff are frequently described as kind and thoughtful. Stories of staff surprising birthday guests with extra slices or taking the time to explain upcoming promotions are common, making every visit feel personal.
- Generous Ingredients: For those who love the traditional style, the cake is packed with a generous assortment of high-quality raisins and nuts.
- Gorgeous New Storefront: The recently remodeled location offers a beautiful, modern environment that enhances the overall shopping experience.

What is worth choosing
While the name of the shop makes the primary choice obvious, the nuances of the menu are where the real discovery happens. The classic slice of carrot cake with "the works" (raisins and walnuts) is the definitive Lloyd’s experience. It is 100% worth the trip, providing a rich, multi-textured bite that many consider the best in the five boroughs. However, if you are a purist who prefers a smooth cake texture, choosing the version without raisins or walnuts is a fantastic way to appreciate the quality of the spiced sponge and the perfection of the cream cheese frosting.
For those visiting for the first time, don't just stop at the cake slices. The cupcakes are an excellent choice for a smaller, portable treat that still delivers the full flavor profile of the signature recipe. If you are traveling to New York to celebrate a special occasion, mentioning it to the staff might just result in one of those "only in New York" moments of kindness that the café is known for. Whether you are a carrot cake connoisseur or just someone looking for a delicious piece of history, Lloyd’s Carrot Cake Café on Lexington Avenue is a destination that delivers on its promises. It is moist, rich, perfectly tangy, and truly one of the best dessert experiences NYC has to offer.

Truly one of the best carrot cakes I’ve ever tried! 🍰🥕🧁 • Traveled to NYC to celebrate my birthday, and this was absolutely on my must-try list. It’s 100% worth it. • Moist, soft, and rich carrot cake with a generous assortment of raisins and nuts. The cream cheese frosting is perfectly balanced: not too sweet, just how I like it. • They recently moved locations, but it’s just along the same block and street. Still very easy to find. • Staff were incredibly kind and accommodating, even sharing details about upcoming events and promotions. • When I mentioned it was my birthday and that I wished I could attend their grand opening, they surprised me with an extra slice of cake 🥹 So thoughtful. It truly made my day. • Highly recommended for carrot cake lovers. Can’t wait to come back and try their other variants!

Best carrot cake ever. I’ve been going here for years and the remodeled storefront is also gorgeous. The carrot cake is delightfully moist and the frosting is not too sweet and perfectly tangy. Truly have no notes and I like that you can also get it without raisins/walnuts. Really really delicious cake, one of my favorite slices in NYC.

MOLD ON SLICED CAKE- I ordered one slice of the carrot cake (w/o raisins or nuts) as a birthday treat for my partner on Uber Eats. When it arrived, the slice had noticeable white and green mold spores on either side of the slice. Uber did not let me report this as a food safety issue either; I was only able to get a refund if I claimed it as “stale” which was NOT the problem. Will not attempt again.

My husband brought home two slices of carrot cake for my birthday, one with just the plain base (no nuts and raisins) and one with. Let me tell you as a carrot cake enthusiast, these slices were absolutely amazing. While the plain was a solid base, as always the nuts and raisins elevated. So happy to find a place that doesn't hid the quality of the cake in half it's size of frosting. So excited to go back for every occasion!

Lloyd’s Carrot Cake is the place to go when you’re craving rich, flavorful cake—but keep in mind, it’s strictly grab-and-go. There’s no seating inside, so it’s best for picking up a slice (or a whole cake) to enjoy elsewhere. We tried two slices of the carrot cake—one with nuts and raisins, and one without. Both were delicious: moist, dense, and full of flavor. For the best texture and taste, let the cake sit out until it reaches room temperature before eating. They also offer other flavors of cake if you’re not a carrot cake fan.
