MOJO Artisanal Mousse Bar Introduce
In a city where food trends often cycle through the "same old" variations of cupcakes and donuts, MOJO Artisanal Mousse Bar stands as a refreshing and sophisticated departure. Located in the heart of East Harlem, this unique establishment holds the distinction of being America’s first-ever "mousse bar." It offers New Yorkers a specialized, high-end dessert experience that centers on the light, airy, and decadent world of authentic Belgian mousse. Far from being just a side dish or a cake filling, the mousse here is the undisputed star of the show, crafted with a level of precision that reflects both European tradition and a modern American dream.
The story of MOJO is deeply personal, rooted in the childhood of its founder, Chef Johan Halsberghe. Growing up in Belgium, Johan learned the secrets of the perfect mousse at the age of eight, following his grandfather’s traditional techniques. Before opening this brick-and-mortar gem in New York, Johan served as the Executive Chef to the Belgian Ambassador to the United Nations. His mousse became so legendary among diplomats and honorary guests that "Mojo"—a portmanteau of "Mousse by Johan"—was born out of popular demand. Today, the shop provides a cozy, chic ambiance that feels like a slice of Brussels transported to the streets of Manhattan, complete with a "golden spoon" tradition that pays homage to Belgian folklore.
Location and Accessibility
MOJO Artisanal Mousse Bar is situated at 177 E 100th St, New York, NY 10029, USA. Nestled in the vibrant East Harlem neighborhood, the shop is a cornerstone of a growing local culinary scene. It is conveniently located just a few blocks from the 96th Street and 103rd Street subway stations, providing easy access to the 6 train. For those exploring the city’s cultural offerings, the shop is a short distance from the northern end of Central Park and the Museum of the City of New York, making it a perfect destination for a post-museum treat.
The shop is recently integrated with Chef Johan's new concept, Café D’Anvers, creating a "Belgian corner" at the intersection of 100th Street and Lexington Avenue. This expansion means that while the mousse remains a focal point, the location now offers a broader Belgian-French bistro experience. The storefront is welcoming and designed with a "super cute" aesthetic that invites customers to sit and stay a while. Accessibility is a priority, with street-level entry and a layout that accommodates both solo diners looking for a quick fix and families seeking a weekend outing. For locals, the shop’s presence serves as a sophisticated community hub that bridges the gap between East Harlem’s historic charm and Manhattan’s gourmet aspirations.

What is Worth Choosing
If it is your first time visiting, the "Dark Chocolate 70" is an absolute must. It is a fan favorite for a reason—light, fluffy, yet deeply chocolatey, it satisfies even the most intense cravings without feeling heavy. For a more nuanced flavor, the Hazelnut Praline is widely considered "incredible" by regulars, offering a silky texture with a rich, nutty finish. For those who enjoy a bit of contrast, the White Chocolate mousse paired with Salted Caramel Pearls provides a delightful balance of sweet and savory notes.
Beyond the mousse itself, the Pão de Queijo is a surprising and delicious addition to the menu, reflecting the Brazilian heritage of the chef’s partner. These cheesy, puffy breads are best enjoyed warm and provide a perfect savory counterpoint to the sweet mousse. During the colder New York months, the Belgian Hot Chocolate is highly worth choosing; topped with fresh whipped cream, it is arguably one of the richest cocoa experiences in Manhattan. Finally, if you are hosting a dinner party, skip the traditional cake and pick up one of their larger mousse containers—it travels better than ice cream and offers a unique, sophisticated "wow factor" that your guests will be talking about long after the party ends. Choosing MOJO means choosing a taste of the "American Dream" served with a golden spoon.
Ultimately, MOJO Artisanal Mousse Bar provides a world-class dessert experience that is deeply rooted in heritage but perfectly adapted for the modern New York palate. Whether you're a local resident or a visitor searching for something unique, this East Harlem treasure delivers "pure magic" in every bite.

This was my first time going to a mousse shop. My husband & I are chocolate lovers so this was a decadent treat. I purchase the white chocolate mousse with salted caramel pearls. While my husband stuck to the fan favorite dark chocolate 70. Our server was awesome as he talked with us about the history of the restaurant. We even discussed recommendations for us to visit Belgium.

Super cute ambiance, delicious dessert! It’s a unique spot and really wonderful. I love that it has mousse as the focus (can’t wait to also try the hot cocoa!) — it’s something different than the “same old” for dessert. Connected to a bar, but I didn’t try that this go around. Really worth the visit! I had the hazelnut praline and it was incredible! Light, fluffy and full of flavor. They also have various sizes of Mousse, so you could pick up a big one to serve at home for a dinner party. Also, the founder’s story is really cool (American Dream!!!). Loved it & we will be back!

Finally ! A place where I can get my mousse au chocolat fix.. I am very exigent when it comes to desserts, especially that I am used to French desserts that are one of the finest in the world. I took the dark chocolate mousse and that was exactly what would heaven desserts taste like. The balance of cocoa flavor was perfect, and the main ingredients are imported from Belgium obviously. The chocolate mousse was VERY light and has perfect airy consistency. Will visit again soon !

Mousse lover paradise! Felt like I’m in Belgium again with their mousses! So good and delicious! Location: It is located in Upper East Side 100th St. near Mt Sinai Hospital. Due to covid, I can’t come inside the store, but they will re-open soon. I ordered by the door with the owner. Service: the owner was super nice, the store wasn’t open yet but he took my order. Food: I bought all the 5 flavors and everything was good. Their mousses are velvety, silky smooth and perfect amount of sweetness. My FAVE FLAVORS are: DARK CHOCOLATE, HAZELNUT PRALINE, WHITE CHOCO and MATCHA. Least favorite: PASSION FRUIT: not a fan, taste like chemical and grainy. Just get the other flavors! Price rating: 8/10, a little pricey, really small cup for $4. Definitely will come back to get the 4 flavors I ordered but not passion fruit! Lol

Stopped by MOJO today with my kids. Oliver gave us an amazing experience. He was incredibly kind and professional. Also sweet with my kids. The dark chocolate and passion fruit were my faves. Though the kids liked white chocolate. Thanks for the great service, Oliver.
