I lucked out and got my egg tart right after it was baked! It was piping hot and sooo delicious! The crust was flaky and crispy, and the filling was jiggly, custardy, and slightly sweet. The whole thing was a symphony of textures, starting with the lightly crisp crust and ending with the soft egg melting in my mouth 🤤. I also got a red bean moon cake which was great! The red bean paste was smooth and sweet, and the crust was perfectly baked and beautifully designed. I would highly recommend this bakery and hope I get a chance to come back! - Firestrike

What is Worth Choosing

When visiting Tao Hong, the absolute priority for any visitor should be the Egg Tart. It is widely considered the standout item of the establishment and for good reason. Unlike many versions found in standard dim sum halls, the egg tarts here are defined by a crust that is exceptionally flaky and crispy without being greasy. The filling hits the elusive "just right" level of sweetness—not so sugary that it masks the delicate egg flavor, but sweet enough to satisfy a dessert craving. The custard is described by regulars as being incredibly smooth and melting in the mouth, creating a textural contrast with the crust that is nothing short of addictive. If you are lucky enough to arrive when a fresh tray is pulled from the oven, do not hesitate—the experience of eating one while it is still warm is a highlight of the New York bakery scene.

Beyond the famous tarts, the Red Bean Mooncake is highly recommended for those who appreciate traditional Chinese sweets. The red bean paste is processed to a velvety smoothness and encased in a crust that is both visually stunning and perfectly baked. It is a rich, satisfying treat that pairs excellently with tea. For those who enjoy exploring different textures, the bakery's various buns and flaky pastries offer a range of sweet and savory options that demonstrate a consistent mastery of dough and temperature control. Whether you are grabbing a single tart for a quick energy boost or a full box of assorted mooncakes to bring to a dinner party, choosing the signature items at Tao Hong ensures you are tasting the very best of what this local institution has to offer.
